While the undead still rule the horror roost over the likes of sparkly vampires and CGI werewolves, it is inevitable that the zombie market is bound to soon hit a saturation point. With big budget offers like World War Z down to indie gems like Jeff Monahan’s Corpsing, zombies have reached a mainstream appeal that keeps our rotten bellies as full as we can stuff them.

Title: George A. Oh dear, where do I begin? George A. Romero is something of an idol of mine. I’ve always been mesmerized with his early zombie movies (you know the ones I mean), so my ears picked up immediately when I found out I’d be reviewing this new DVD release. Suspecting an Internet slating, I purposely remained ignorant of the general online consensus until after my first viewing in the name of impartiality (and my own attempts to preserve the nugget of hope I had that it’d be good). After all Romero’s involved and the man has earned the benefit of the doubt in my eyes. The proof is in the pudding as they say.
Deadtime Stories is an anthology of horror episodes, much in the vein of Romero’s own Creepshow (1982). Romero himself introduces each story in turn as well as providing a general thread through which the stories are joined together.

Director: Jeff Monahan and Matt Walsh.
Writers: Jeff Monahan.
Narrator: George A. Romero.
George A. Romero again narrates the Deadtime Stories film series in Deadtime Stories 2. Here you have three macabre tales of cannibalism, guilt and, hurrah, zombies. Having not seen the first series, this reviewer will not be able to compare the two anthologies. However, as a stand alone series of tales, Deadtime Stories 2 is a mostly fun ride that is somewhat hampered by a slow start. Overall "The Gorge," "On Sabbath Hill," and "Dust" provide that "Outer Limits" (1995) feel where stories emphasize audience impact rather than characterizations and deep plots.
"The Gorge," takes viewers to a cave exploration trip, which goes terribly wrong. Three climbers are trapped in a pocket of air for an unbelievable twenty-seven days, plus. About the only passage of time that you will see is the reduction of candles to little wicks.

Details are emerging for the release of Deadtime Stories 2. This is the second horror anthology to be narrated by the Master of Horror himself, George A. Romero. This time around, Romero has three tales of the macabre which range from fatal cave climbing to haunting students and even to a disease causing space dust. Each short is about thirty minutes long, with a cumulative runtime of 141 mins'. The titles of the shorts are: "The Gorge," "On Sabbath Hill," and "Dust." Enjoy the trailer for Deadtime Stories 2, as Romero tells viewers to "be very afraid!"

Romero I’ve been so starved for any little morsel of horror I can get my hands on this summer that I jumped at the chance to review this new offering from horror maestro George A. Romero. What a waste. My husband (who will watch anything) pronounced that it was crap within five minutes and left the room in a huff. I stuck around for the entire stink-fest. This “anthology” is comprised of three short films, interspersed with Romero sitting in a chair, cracking corny little intros that make the Crypt Keeper look like a master of prose. Damnation Alley - is one of the most sought after post-apocalyptic cult relics of the 70's that, believe it or not, is only now making it's way onto DVD and Blu-ray in an official release. So basically, it's a red letter day for Pa junkies and I'm off to pick this bad boy up as soon as I post this. It's also based on a book from 1967 by Roger Zelazny (who hated this film).
Insidious - is the best film from James Wan since the original Saw and one hell of a haunting flick. I loved this film far more than the glut haunted house films we've been getting recently like Haunting in Connecticut. Perhaps it had something to do with Rose Byrne being in the film? Whatever it was, this was a great flick that's made better by the subtleties and unanswered oddities in it - like what relevance...

Pennsylvania-based independent production company Happy Cloud Pictures is set to begin production on its sixth feature film, Razor Days, a grim story of survival and revenge starring Amy Lynn Best and Debbie Rochon.
Razor Days represents quite a departure from the hybrid films Happy Cloud is known for (i.e., the “zombie-noir” The Resurrection Game, the meta-fictional Splatter Movie: The Director’s Cut, the horror-comedies Severe Injuries and Demon Divas and the Lanes of Damnations) and is set in the very real world.
From the Press Release:
Razor Days tells the story of three women, each a survivor of horrific violence, who bond together first for support and then to exact revenge on those responsible for their horrific pasts, including a group of cannibalistic “weekend warriors”. This gritty, character-driven thriller begins production in mid-November.
“We’ve been developing this script for six or seven years now,” says writer-director Mike Watt.

We told you about George A. Romero's upcoming anthology flicks, Deadtime Stories, a long while ago. Since our initial story there's been little movement on the project, but now at this year's Afm two bits of sales art and info sheets about Volumes I and II in this series of films have sprung up, and guess what? We've got all the goods for you right here.
Exactly how much input Romero will have on these films is unknown at this point, but the anthologies, which are all written and directed by Jeff Monahan, will consist of three 30-minute films that are, according to the filmmaker, suitable for a DVD or cable TV release.
The artwork for Volume I has been around for a while, but the artwork for Volume II is something we haven't seen before. Click on the images to see them bigger, and dig on a teaser trailer below.

Jeff Monahan of 72nd St. Films gave us the heads-up about his latest genre project, which is also the newest in the recent flood of features based on the novels of Jack Ketchum. He’s currently developing a film version of the author’s 1995 novel Joyride (a.k.a. Road Kill).
In addition to producing the movie with Robert Skwaryk, Monahan is also writing the adaptation of Ketchum’s book, in which a woman and her lover kill her abusive ex-husband and attract the attention of a psychopath who witnesses the murder, and wants them to join him on a new slaughter spree. “The story is very film noir,” Monahan tells Fango. “I’ve always loved that James M. Cain sort of thing, and Jack has added some wonderful new twists and turns to that. Several name actors have read the script and want to do it, but the first...

Producer Jeff Monahan gave Fango the word on the tales contained within Deadtime Stories Volume 2. The second in the series of George A. Romero-presented anthologies recently wrapped up principal photography.
The first in the new trilogy of terror is “Quota,” directed by Matt Walsh on Pennsylvania locations. “Fifty years ago,” Monahan tells us of the storyline, “two lovers were killed up at Lovers Leap. Deke and Judy are going up there tonight—and what they’re going to do isn’t exactly safe sex.” Tim (Evilution) Colceri stars. In “WeT,” helmed by Death Spa’s Michael Fischa, “a lonely man finds a box buried on the beach, and what’s inside it wants to keep him company.” Monahan himself acts in this segment, along with Kristin Slaysman and Death Ship’s Nick Mancuso. Finally, the Monahan-directed “Valley of the Shadow” is about “a woman and a team of scientists...
