- Is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's fastest talker.
- Has appeared in several commercials, among the more famous of which are for FedEx and Micro Machines. A handful of the Micro Machine commercials have featured his real-life son, John III.
- Was once hired as a speaker for a corportate presentation when a client discovered that they didn't have enough time to give a full presentation. He managed to give the full presentation in 1/4th the needed time.
- He has a twin sister and four younger sisters as well.
- Has one elder sister, who cannot talk nearly as fast...but whom John credits with inspiring him to self-train accordingly, since "it always drove her wild".
- Is now the announcer for the new Hollywood Squares (1998).
- Claims to have first discovered his rare "gift" when he went for the record of 'fast-talking', he locked himself in his room and read quickly to himself, bringing himself up to speed. He could recite the entire "To be or not to be" soliloquy from 'Hamlet' in 19 seconds.
- For record books, he speaks his maximum 11 words-a-second (which is slowed-down on a special machine for accuracy of words). He has to speak slower for TV commercials and even slower for radio spots (so the viewers can know what he's saying).
