Monday, January 8th, would’ve been David Bowie’s 77th birthday. To mark the occasion, Wilco has shared their rendition of Bowie’s 1969 hit, “Space Oddity.”
The release hails from Wilco’s 2023 performance on Mountain Stage (a public radio show distributed by NPR Music), and will be included on an upcoming compilation announced today titled Live On Mountain Stage: Outlaws and Outliers, due on April 19th via Oh Boy Records.
Presenting a wonderfully Wilco-esque take on “Space Oddity” — itself named the 43rd best song of all time by Consequence in 2012 — the band settles into an acoustic arrangement, allowing Jeff Tweedy’s vocals to masterfully convey the tune’s enduring appeal for humanity.
Speaking about the performance in a statement, the band said: “As a gratefully, if not begrudgingly, Earth-bound band, it’s always an honor and a challenge to tackle any of David Bowie’s space-soaring arrangements. Striving to reach...

In the second and final season of Showtime series Your Honor, Bryan Cranston reprises the role of disgraced judge Michael Desiato. At the end of Season 1, Desiato’s son was murdered by the Baxter crime family, and fresh out of prison himself, Desiato not only seeks to avenge his son’s death but to rediscover his own moral compass and find some kind of redemption. It’s another nuanced performance in a storied career that includes such roles as the inimitable Walter White in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the titular character in Trumbo, Hal in Malcolm in the Middle and Stan in Little Miss Sunshine. Here, Cranston muses on his French country retirement plans, explains the glaring absence of karaoke in his life, and reveals his dreams of making a Broadway musical and why his desert island TV picks definitely won’t include Breaking Bad.

Exclusive: In the starriest new package announced so far for this year’s virtual AFM, we can reveal that Tye Sheridan (Mud), Oscar-nominee Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road), Golden Globe-nominee Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk), Bill Skarsgard (It Chapter One & Two), Pete Davidson (The King Of Staten Island), Ashton Sanders (Moonlight), Martin Sensmeier (The Magnificent Seven), Moises Arias (Monos), and Angus Cloud (Euphoria) have been set as the impressive ensemble for Vietnam war movie The Things They Carried.
It’s hard to recall a deeper lineup of in-demand young talent for a recent indie movie. And the casting isn’t over, we hear.
Rupert Sanders (Snow White And The Huntsman) will direct the feature adaptation of Tim O’Brien’s acclaimed collection of stories about a platoon of young soldiers and their experiences on the front lines during the Vietnam War.

President Trump wants Americans to believe he’s taking the coronavirus seriously.
“This is a pandemic,” he told reporters on Tuesday, his tone more grave than when he had addressed the virus previously. “I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic … I’ve always viewed it as very serious.”
This is, of course, a lie. For weeks, the president brushed off the threat of Covid-19, which in turn led Fox News and Republican lawmakers to downplay its severity, which in turn emboldened countless Americans to...

Michael Bloomberg is dropping out of the presidential race and endorsing Joe Biden.
“I’ve always believed that defeating Donald Trump starts with uniting behind the candidate with the best shot to do it,’ Bloomberg said in a statement. “After yesterday’s vote, it is clear that candidate is my friend and a great American, Joe Biden.”
Bloomberg poured around $500 million in the presidential race by some estimates, pinning his hopes on Super Tuesday, but he won just one contest, American Samoa. He did appear to reach the threshold for delegates in some states, but he met with with staff on Wednesday to assess the impact of continuing in the race.
“I am immensely proud of the campaign we ran, the issues we raised, and the sweeping, achievable plans we proposed — including our Greenwood Initiative to right historic wrongs, fight racial inequality, and make the promise of equal opportunity real...

President Trump has long loathed the Academy Awards, viewing the ceremony as a teeming hive of the Hollywood elites who have categorically rejected him (except for Jon Voight).
But he has a predictable new gripe with this year’s Oscars, which he aired Thursday night during a rally in Colorado. Trump wasn’t happy that a foreign film, South Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite, won the top prize.
“How bad were the Academy Awards this year? Did you see?” Trump said. “And the winner is … a movie from South Korea.

Michael Bloomberg will sell his media and financial data company if he is elected president, an adviser told the Associated Press on Tuesday.
Tim O’Brien, who took a leave from his post at Bloomberg Opinion to serve as senior adviser to the campaign, told the AP that “we want to be 180 degrees apart from Donald Trump around financial conflicts of interest.” Bloomberg would put Bloomberg LP in a blind trust, which would then sell the company, O’Brien said. The proceeds from the sale would go to Bloomberg Philanthropies.
When he was elected president, Trump put his sons in charge of the company but did not divest his holdings. That has raised numerous questions of conflict of interest, particularly when foreign emissaries stay at Trump properties.
Bloomberg’s media and business data empire is privately held, and has estimated annual revenues of $10 billion, according to Forbes. Bloomberg has an estimated net worth of $64 billion,...

FoxNext Games La released its debut title, Marvel Strike Force, in March 2018, has become one of the top mobile games on iOS and Android, bringing in more than $150 million in its first year. Some joked Baby Yoda would be named Times' Person of the Year after the adorable Star Wars character swept the country by storm in November. Well, funny enough, the little green tyke featured in The Mandalorian on Disney+ did make it into the issue released Wednesday.
Sixteen-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg was named Time's Person of the Year, but there were other categories, such as Entertainer of the Year and Businessperson of the Year. And it just so happens that Disney CEO Bob Iger was crowned the latter.

Former New York mayor and media mogul Michael Bloomberg has announced that he is running for president, a decision that make shake up the race for the Democratic nomination.
“I believe my unique set of experiences in business, government, and philanthropy will enable me to win and lead,” Bloomberg wrote on Twitter in his announcement video.
He’ll be a centrist in a race where candidates have been under pressure to prove their progressive bonafides. In his video, a narrator says that Bloomberg will make sure that “the wealthy will pay more in taxes, and the struggling middle class will get their fair share.”

Update: Apparently, whether Donald Trump was booed or cheered at his Madison Square Garden appearance is a matter of perspective. The New York Post proclaimed that the President was greeted with cheers, while more partisan opponents in the media claimed the boos outweighed the huzzahs.
Trump himself chose to tout the positives, with support from Ufc fighter Jorge Masvidal.

Episode four of This Is Us season three takes viewers deep into Jack's past for an all too real visit to the frontlines of the Vietnam War. Cowritten by The Things They Carried author Tim O'Brien, "Vietnam" offers younger viewers a glimpse of a much talked about but little understood aspect of the war: the Vietnam draft. Midway through the episode, we discover Jack has a preexisting heart condition that exempts him from being called up. However, his little brother Nicky is anxiously waiting to see if his number will be called during the evening's televised draft lottery. Despite Jack's assurances that even if Nicky's birthday - Oct. 18 - is called, it will be so far down the list, he won't see active duty, his little brother's birthday is the fifth one drawn from the 366 possible birthdays included in the lottery. But just how accurate is This Is Us's depiction of the draft?...
