Plot: The Nelwyn sorcerer returns, years after rescuing the infant empress Elora Danan, to lead a group of misfit heroes on a harrowing rescue mission through a world beyond imagination.
Review: Of all the sequels and continuations that I have wanted, few ranks as high on my list as Willow. As an eight-year-old, I saw Willow on the big screen based purely on being from the imagination of George Lucas. I was unprepared for the sword and sorcery and dark fantasy about to unfold on a scale I had not seen on the big screen before. Ron Howard’s epic direction, James Horner’s immortal score, and the performances of Warwick Davis, Joanne Whalley, and Val Kilmer had me absolutely blown away. Like Star Wars, for over twenty years I have been stuck with rumors of a possible sequel and only a trilogy of novels to take me back to the story of Willow,...

While Devery Jacobs has been doing a spectacular job on FX and Hulu's "Reservation Dogs," which is currently preparing their third season, she will no longer be the only Elora Danan on modern television in a month's time. Soon, Disney+ will bring fans of Ron Howard and George Lucas' 1988 film "Willow" back to the planet of Andowyne and the mystical kingdoms found there. Ahead of the sequel series' premiere, the House of Mouse has released an action-packed promo to tease the next adventure of the beloved Nelwyn sorcerer.
More than 30 years after the original film, Warwick Davis reprises the role of Willow Ufgood in a new epic fantasy quest to save the world. And just as he did in his initial tale while he was only an upstart fledgling sorcerer, it would seem that an older and wiser Willow, along with a new band of friends, needs to insure...

Lucasfilm has some pretty exciting content hitting Disney Plus this fall, with the D23 Convention offering us the final trailer for Andor, as well as a first-look trailer for the upcoming Willow sequel series!
The first season of the two-season Disney+ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel, Andor, hits the service on September 21st, and the final trailer was unveiled for the packed audience at this year’s D23 in Anaheim. The trailer, which strikes a notably grittier tone than some of the others, with its sparse version of the familiar Star Wars fanfare, foreshadows Andor’s eventual fate, as seen in Rogue One. Stellan Skarsgård’s Luther Rael warns Andor that he’ll eventually die fighting for the Rebellion. The series seems to center around the character finally accepting his ultimate fate, which comes as a part of fighting for something bigger than himself.
As previously revealed, the...

When his brain was firing on all comedic cylinders—on stage performing standup or improvising in front of the camera—Robin Williams described an experience akin to being possessed. “When it works, it’s great—and when it doesn’t, it’s painful,” he said, solemnly reflecting on his ireplicable comedic genius. Those observations, taken from an old television interview, make up the prologue to Robin’s Wish, a lean, intimate and slightly incomplete documentary about Williams’ final years and months. They foreshadow the devastating cranial spiral at the heart of the comedian’s tragic ending.
Undoubtedly, Williams’ death by suicide on Aug. 11, 2014, came as a global surprise. Rampant media reports erroneously suggested substance abuse or depression as leading causes, all-encompassing issues perhaps attributed to his recently diagnosed case of Parkinson’s disease. But once examiners conducted a full autopsy, they found Williams had suffered from a degenerative neurological disorder called Lewy body dementia,...

Six years ago this week was the tragic passing of comedy legend Robin Williams. A new documentary is now arriving to shed some light on his final days and the struggles he faced. Robin’s Wish, directed by Tylor Norwood (The United States of Detroit), sets out to detail the actor’s private battle with Lewy Body Dementia and the effect it had on his family, friends, and legions of fans who idolized the peerless performer. The trailer of the film hints at both the public and private life of the star, and how he remained positive and steadfast even as he succumbed to his illness.
Rising to prominence in the television show Mork & Mindy and his stand up specials, Williams then made a prominent career in film, starring in such acclaimed movies as Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, The Fisher King, and his Oscar-winning turn in Good Will Hunting,...

“Magic is the bloodstream of the universe. Forget all you know, or think you know. All that you require is your intuition.”
If you remember those wise words of wisdom from the leader of the Nelwyn village, High Aldwin, chances are you’ve got a big ol’ soft spot for Ron Howard’s 1988 high fantasy classic, Willow. And to be honest, you’re not the only one there. Seriously, Willow rules, right?
As you may already know, a long gestating sequel TV series recently entered pre-production at Lucasfilm and is rumoured to be coming exclusively to Disney Plus sometime in the future. So far, we know that Warwick Davis is confirmed to be reprising his role as the eponymous farmer-turned-sorcerer, Willow Ufgood. We also know that Solo: A Star Wars Story scribe, Jonathan Kasdan, is penning the first draft of the script. However, beyond that, details remain scarce regarding the much anticipated project.

Comedy and industry politics mixed Tuesday night at The Hollywood Improv, site of a fundraiser for SAG-AFTRA candidate Matthew Modine and his Membership First slate.
“He looks like Hal Holbrook,” Tom Arnold joked. “He’s aged 100 years.”
Modine is challenging incumbent SAG-aftra President Gabrielle Carteris and three other candidates for the top elected post at the 160,000-member performers union. With two more weeks of campaigning before voting concludes on Aug. 28, the funds raised are earmarked for mailings to members.
Modine noted he’s been so busy that he’s lacked the time to see a dentist about a missing tooth. “Running for office isn’t what I expected,” he said before taking the stage.
Lisa Ann Walter hosted with comedy provided by Arnold, Rick Overton, Cathy Ladman, Julie Goldman, Vinny Fasline, Candice Thompson, and Steve Byrne.

While there is an abundance of films out there that feature halflings forced into a fight against an all-consuming evil, about 95% of them were directed by Peter Jackson. But today, I want to pay homage to a film directed by Richie Cunningham (aka Ron Howard), produced by George Lucas, and predating The Lord of the Rings movies by over a decade. Call it sacrilege if you must, but Ron Howard’s Willow holds a place nearer and dearer to my heart than anything set in Middle-earth. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some hobbits, but I was introduced to the Nelwyn clan at five years old. And at that age, when you fall for a movie, you fall hard.
For those who aren’t familiar, Willow centers on farmer/would-be sorcerer Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis). When he happens upon Elora Danan, an infant of the Daikini clan (aka...

"Am I crazy, or is your brother indestructible?" Netflix has launched the first official trailer for an animated adventure comedy titled Duck Duck Goose, which is a play on the name of the children's chase game also known as "Duck Duck Goose". The story is about a pompous bachelor goose who is forced to accompany two little lost ducklings as they journey south for the winter. Jim Gaffigan stars as the voice of Peng, joined by Zendaya, Lance Lim, Greg Proops, Reggie Watts, Natasha Leggero, Diedrich Bader, Stephen Fry, Craig Ferguson, Jennifer Grey, Rick Overton, and Carl Reiner. This looks cute and slightly amusing, but definitely for kids. Plus we all know how the story will play out and all the lessons he'll learn. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Christopher Jenkins' Duck Duck Goose, direct from YouTube: A high-flying bachelor goose (Jim Gaffigan) is saddled with two...

Richard Overton has seen much during his storied life, which began on May 11, 1906, the same year President Theodore Roosevelt won the Nobel Peace Prize.
At 111 years old, Overton is a supercentenarian, staking claim to the title of being the oldest verified living WWII veteran and the oldest man in all 50 states. He has met President Barack Obama, been honored by the San Antonio Spurs with a custom jersey, and even has had a street named after him. On Showtime’s new series I’m Dying Up Here is a Jim Carrey-produced effort and takes a fictionalized look at the 1970s Los Angeles comedy business, incorporating real-life late night veterans like Rick Overton into the cast. Back when Johnny Carson’s decision to move The Tonight Show from New York over to the West Coast in 1972, a floodgate of opportunities arose for many comics. The poignant, bittersweet and wickedly funny series is adapted from journalist William Knoedelseder’s eponymous non-fiction book, starring Ari Graynor, Michael Angarano, Clarke Duke and Andrew Santino as some of the young comics with visions of superstardom. Peter Joseph’s highly anticipated new film series inches towards its 2016 release.

In a time of great social strife and growing inequality and public outcry, it’s no wonder Peter Joseph's work has gained more and more prominence in the counter-culture each year. Love him or hate him, Joseph continues to challenge the “zeitgeist”, leading the charge towards a new society. Art is his weapon… and the thousands of dedicated fans don’t hurt either.
Peter Joseph is a producer who created the Zeitgeist Film Trilogy, a series of films critical of society and culture. These works exploded online starting in 2007 with millions of views and can now be found in major media outlets such as Netflix. His third film, Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, had the largest grassroots, non-profit theatrical release in history, with almost 350 screenings in 60 countries in 25 languages. Exclusive: Showtime has picked up Pauly Shore’s revealing road documentary Pauly Shore Stands Alone and slated it to air December 4. Music festivals have never appealed to me. Especially the ones that involve camping in the dead of summer. The bands that are booked for festivals either don’t register or elicit a chuckle. Chicago – The parody industry that the Wayans comedy machine has generated has provided big laughs and big box office for years. In 2013, Marlon Wayans launched another series, with “A Haunted House.” Faster than the fastest green light, that success led to ‘A Haunted House 2.’
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Moving to a personal note, I absolutely despised the first film, mostly because I felt that (writer) Wayans relied on tired gags and a strange, misogynistic attitude toward women in that film. But it’s nice to report that “A Haunted House 2” was much better, the gags were sharper (and weirder) and the supporting cast was stronger. While the anything-for-a-laugh pacing that Wayans practices will never get a Mark Twain Award, “A Haunted House 2” is bizarre spoof – especially of last year’s horror epic “The Conjuring” – that effectively elicits some guffaws for a night at the movies.

Chicago – Marlon Wayans will do practically anything for a laugh, and that is to the audience’s advantage in the sequel to last year’s smash comedy, “A Haunted House 2.” Joining him for the second go around is hot comic Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias and the reliable Affion Crockett, who is reprising his role as Cousin Ray Ray.
‘A Haunted House 2’ was given the green light after the success of last year’s “A Haunted House.” Marlon Wayans – with his writing partner Rick Alvarez – has formulated another spoof regarding the latest horror films, in this case mostly from last year’s “The Conjuring.” Wayans, who is also part of the Wayans Brothers comedy family, leaves no hilarious stone unturned as he sends up all of the weird elements of that film, and his on-screen supporting cast brings great improvisation and comic timing to the mix.

The Crimson Horror
by Mark Gatiss
Directed by Saul Metzstein
People are turning up dead in the canal in Victorian Yorkshire, their bodies in varied states of petrifaction and their skin a lobster red. Madame Vastra and Jenny are asked to investigate, and when they realize that The Doctor is somehow involved, they hurry to investigate. A woman is establishing her own ark on dry land, planning to survive the next torrent, not of rain, but of poison.
Mark Gatiss balances comedy and horror with a deft hand, being given the reins on the investigating Silurian and her companions. This may be the closest we ever get to a completely solo Vastra and Jenny adventure,...

Title: Noobz Director: Blake Freeman Starring: Jason Mewes, Blake Freeman, Matt Shively, Zelda Williams, Moises Arias, Jon Gries, Richard Speight Jr., Darly Craig, Lin Shaye, Rick Overton, Casper Van Dien, Mindy Sterling, Bill Bellamy, Adam Sessler An across-the-board comedic misfire that lamely tries to hitch its trailer to the $17-billion-a-year videogaming industry, “Noobz” trades entirely in familiar clichés, and seems to regard its mere existence as a triumph to be shared by all. A wearying stinker unredeemed by a handful of brave, game, small supporting turns, multi-hyphenate Blake Freeman’s film is kind of like a cross between “Road Trip,” “Empire Records,” “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters” and the modern-day videogame comedy that Kevin [ Read More ]

Set your timers for July 14th, as Showtime's excellent comedy series "The Green Room with Paul Provenza" is back for another new season. Monsters & Critics was invited by Ep Barbara Romen for the episode taping that featured Greg Proops, Franklyn Ajaye, Kathy Griffin and Dana Gould. Outstanding grouping and one that shows the major comedic chops of Proops, always underutilized and deserving of his very own show. Plus Dave Attell was totally leaning on me watching the action from the wings, and Rick Overton was in the audience in front of me. Provenza is wickedly funny himself and he wrangles these gargantuan talents and steers the ship in a roundtable setting, speaking off-the-cuff and uncensored in...

Actor Jeffrey Weissman got his big break auditioning for, but not being cast in War Games. Instead he caught the attention of a big agent and was soon cast in the Twilight Zone movie in the, "Nightmare at 30,000 Feet" story, with John Lithgow. He did small parts in Johnny Dangerously, Crackers with Sean Penn and Donald Sutherland and a few guest star spots on TV series like Dallas and Scarecrow and Mrs. King before landing a co-starring role opposite Clint Eastwood in Pale Rider. In a recent interview he told us, "It was a gas being on location with Clint. He was a real gentleman and did everything first class. It was a nice event."
After that came Back to the Future II. He played George McFly, Marty’s father, in the two sequels. He recalled what struck him most about making the film was the set decoration.

Great news for fans of comics, comedy and great storytelling. Showtime wisely reupped Paul Provenza's "The Green Room" which completely owned me in six short episodes, as legends like Jonathan Winters, Robert Klein and Martin Mull told hilarious anecdotes, and other stars such as Andy Kindler, Andy Dick, Sandra Bernhardt, Paul Mooney, Dana Gould and Rick Overton engaged in high energy back and forth banter talking up a myriad of subjects. Showtime announced that the second season of the critically acclaimed comedy series The Green Room With Paul Provenza will again offer viewers the rare opportunity to watch comic lions and legends share their opinions, personal anecdotes and raw humor with each other in an intimate setting.
