UTA has signed Vuze, a player in the nascent IPTV business, to its roster of digital media clients.
In its bid to differentiate from such competing peer-to-peer applications as Joost and Babelgum, Vuze hopes the talent agency will help lure independent content producers to supplement the Palo Alto, Calif.-based company's stable of content partners, including PBS, A&E, BBC and Showtime.
"We think new talent can connect with the market in a more effective way, and that's where UTA can play a significant role," Vuze CEO Gilles BianRosa said. "They can use our platform as an alternative way to distribute their content and reach their audience globally with less friction than the typical distribution system."
Previously known as Azureus, Vuze has logged nearly 14 million installations of an online video platform specializing in high-resolution longform content.
Vuze will come under UTA's digital practice, led by digital-media agent Christopher Pappas and UTA board member Jeremy Zimmer. Other online-minded companies signed at UTA include music-community site Buzznet.com.
