Schitt’s Creek has become a Canadian success story and while Pop TV, and to some extent, Netflix, will get the domestic plaudits – the network that gave the comedy its first chance was CBC.
The public broadcaster said that it was “proud” to have commissioned the Dan Levy and Eugene Levy-created comedy, which gave Canada its first ever series win and became the first comedy or drama to sweep all four acting categories.
The show was also the first series to sweep all categories during the main telecast while Dan Levy tied the record for most wins by an individual in a single season with four wins, joining Moira Demos in 2016 and Amy Sherman-Palladino in 2018.

HBO’s Succession and Pop’s Schitt’s Creek solidified their frontrunner status in the Outstanding Drama and Comedy Series Emmy categories, respectively, by landing their first casting Emmy awards.
At the start of Night 4 of the 2020 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Succession won Casting for a Drama Series, while Schitt’s Creek took Casting for a Comedy Series. It was the second consecutive nomination in the category for sophomore Succession; it was Schitt’s Creek’s first nom for its sixth and final season. In fact, this was Schitt’s Creek‘s first Emmy win Ever. It was Succession‘s fourth overall.
The Casting for a Comedy and Drama Series categories have been a decent barometer for the Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Drama Series fields over the past few years.

The 2020 Emmy nominees have been announced, and Schitt's Creek is finally getting the love it deserves. The Canadian sitcom nabbed a total of 15 (!) nominations for its sixth and final season, with Catherine O'Hara, Annie Murphy, Dan Levy, and Eugene Levy each earning nods for their Rose family roles. We'll raise a glass of Herb Ertlinger fruit wine to that - but no guarantee we'll actually be gagging down all of said glass.
The hilarious and heartwarming Pop TV series scored its first four Emmy nominations last year, although it didn't wind up taking home any golden trophies during the show - and this year marks its last chance to secure one. Moira Rose did say her favorite season is award season, so here's to hoping that helps O'Hara finally get the win she's undoubtedly earned for portraying the beloved Jazzagal with a profound vocabulary and puzzling accent.
