- Leonard Peltier was born on September 12, 1944 in Anishinabe (Chippewa) Turtle Mountain Reservation, North Dakota, USA.
- In 1977, he was convicted of the 1975 murders of FBI agents Jack Coler and Ron Williams. He is serving a life sentence for the double homicide. Although he has openly admitted to shooting at the agents, he denies that he fired the fatal shots.
