He’s been mostly laying low over the eleven months since he taped his last episode of CBS’ The Late Late Show, but James Corden is getting back to work.
In his first major role since leaving his show, Corden will take the stage at London’s Old Vic Theatre this summer, starring in the world premiere of Joe Penhall’s The Constituent.
Though he’s best known in the United States as a talk show host, Corden is also an accomplished actor. In 2012, he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his one-man show One Man, Two Guvnors. That play, like The Constituent, originated in London’s West End.
Corden hosted The Late Late Show for eight years, from 2015-2023. In 2022 he announced he would leave the show the following year. He was the fourth and final host of the CBS franchise.

Crime drama Mindhunter was “very expensive” and Netlflix wanted to make it more broad, says director David Fincher – which is partly why series 3 never happened.
David Fincher may have renewed his contract with Netflix for another three years, but unfortunately, it doesn’t sound as though a third season of Mindhunter will be on his list of upcoming projects for the firm.
As translated by The Fincher Analyst on Twitter/X, France’s Premiere magazine – the same outlet that revealed Fincher’s contract had been renewed – asked the director about the subject of experimentation and risk. Fincher then talked about his work for Netflix, and brought up the subject of Mindhunter – an expensive period piece about the formation of the FBI’s criminal profiling unit. Compared to House Of Cards – the hit political drama that helped make Netflix the streaming giant it is today – the more austere Mindhunter was a far more risky proposition.

Ever since the second and final season of Netflix crime drama Mindhunter concluded in late 2019, the world has been a safer, more brightly lit place. And it sucks.
Mindhunter was a modest miracle of a TV show. Created by Joe Penhall and run by visionary director David Fincher, Mindhunter visually looked like nothing else in the streaming world: dark and dreary yet dynamic and direct. Combining that aesthetic with the compelling real life story of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit and their serial killer studies was almost cheating! And reality seemed to think it was. The show was canceled after season 2 since it was too expensive to continue on and Fincher was simply in too high demand with his day job as a generational filmmaker.
Despite Fincher himself declaring in early 2023 that Mindhunter was over over, we Mindhunter-ites can’t help but scour the internet for any morsel...

Ever since Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes typed that question mark after the words "The End" in 2011's "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," we've all been expecting him to return for another round of sleuthing. In the years following that sequel's half a billion dollar success at the box office, we kept hearing about plans for a follow-up that never actually materialized.
In 2018, Dr. John Watson actor Jude Law revealed that the "Sherlock Holmes 3" plot was supposed to "propel the story forward," and "play up the fact that [Holmes and Watson] haven't seen each other for a long time." That made sense, since the second movie released all the way back in 2011, so there would need to be some acknowledgement of time passing between stories. But since then, even more time has passed, bringing only more delays.

Fans of Netflix’s macabre true crime series, Mindhunter, already know that the series has essentially become another casualty in the streaming giant’s latest hair-trigger cancelation rush. However, unlike high-profile recent contemporaries such as Glow, Away, Altered Carbon, and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, the David Fincher-produced series never officially got the axe; something that’s led to a sliver of optimism over its future.
Fincher, who recently attributed Mindhunter’s de facto cancelation to an exorbitant budget that didn’t match its performance, remains passionate about the series, and his comments in a Variety cover story reveal a desire to eventually conjure a proper conclusion with a belated Season 3. Telegraphing loose plans for a very long arc for the series, Fincher said “At some point I’d love to revisit it. The hope was to get all the way up to the late 90’s, early 2000’s,...

Michel Gondry has come aboard to direct As She Climbed Across the Table, an adaptation of the Jonathan Lethem novel being made by Amazon Studios and Chernin Entertainment.
Joe Penhall, the creator of Netflix’s crime drama Mindhunter, will write the script for the romantic sci-fi tale, with Chernin producing. Raffi Adlan will executive produce.
The novel revolves around a love triangle that consists of a man, a woman, and, wait for it, a black hole. Mixing physics, alternate realities, and ideas of scientific objectivity with the quirkiness and obsessive nature of love, Table tells of a scientist Alice who, along with ...

All signs pointed to true crime drama Mindhunter being donezo at Netflix. The second season came and went last August with nary a world about a third season. Then Netflix went ahead and confirmed that the show was in a holding (not Holden) pattern with all the actors released from their contracts.
Now, the most authoritative source of them all, director David Fincer, has confirmed what we pretty much already knew. There will be no more seasons of Mindhunter, at least not for the foreseeable future.
In an interview with Vulture to promote Fincher’s upcoming film Mank, the director broke the news of Mindhunter’s de facto cancellation.
“Listen, for the viewership that it had, it was an expensive show,” Fincher told Vulture. “We talked about ‘Finish Mank and then see how you feel,’ but I honestly don’t think we’re going to be able to do it...

Don’t be looking for a third season of Mindhunter anytime soon. There has been speculation about a possible renewal for Netflix’s crime thriller drama since January when options on the show’s leads, Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv, had expired and the show was put on “indefinite hold.” Now, executive producer David Fincher confirms that a third season of the show is off the radar at Netflix – at least for now.
In an interview with Vulture, Fincher said at the beginning of season 2 he “ended up looking at what was written and deciding I didn’t like any of it, so we tossed it and started over.” He then promoted Ad Courtenay Miles to co-showrun, but “It’s a 90-hour workweek,” Fincher said. “It absorbs everything in your life. When I got done, I was pretty exhausted, and I said, ‘I don’t know if I...

The Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won-penned South Korean class thriller “Parasite” won Best Original Screenplay and Taika Waititi’s Nazi satire “Jojo Rabbit” won Best Adapted Screenplay at the Writers Guild Awards Saturday night.
The annual awards, which honor the best in film, TV, and radio writing, were handed out at dual ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles.
Both “Parasite” and “Jojo Rabbit” are in the running for Oscars in their respective categories.
“Parasite” bested three Best Original Screenplay nominees up for the Writers Guild Award: “1917,” “Knives Out,” “Marriage Story,” and “Parasite.” The WGA swapped the fifth Oscar-nominated script, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” in favor of a nomination for “Booksmart.”
“Jojo Rabbit” also beat three Best Adapted Screenplay nominees up for the Writers Guild Award: “The Irishman,” “Joker,” and “Little Women.” “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood was a WGA nominee and is not up for the Oscar,...

The Writers Guild of America revealed its winners for the 72nd annual edition of its awards, which were held simultaneously at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and at the Edison Ballroom in New York City on February 1. About 15,000 WGA members vote on the best writing of the prior calendar year in an array of genres.
But beware Oscar predictors: Often a few film scripts nominated for an Academy Award are deemed ineligible. Only screenplays written under the guild’s guidelines or those of several international partners are allowed to vie for the WGA Awards. That accounts for its relatively low success rate at previewing the eventual Oscar nominees compared to the other guilds.
Among those ineligible for consideration this year are some of the leading Oscar contenders, including the original screenplays for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Pain and Glory.” The former is by Quentin Tarantino,...

Mindhunter season 3 has been put on indefinite hold while David Fincher works on his passion projects.
Mindhunter season 3 is now looking more unlikely, as Netflix has confirmed this week that the main cast have been released from their contracts and allowed to pursue other roles.
“David [Fincher] is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement about the decision. “He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”
Stars Holt McCallany, Jonathan Groff, and Anna Torv are now free to work on whatever they please, and will not be tied into a third season of the serial killer thriller series.

Netflix has released the cast of “Mindhunter” from their contracts, however the show has not been cancelled and co-executive producer David Fincher has the option of producing a third season in the future, a Netflix spokesperson tells TheWrap.

It’s been five months since Season 2 of Mindhunter launched on Netflix. Over that time, there has been no movement on part of the streamer regarding a potential third season of the David Fincher crime thriller drama. Last month, Netflix let the options of the cast, led by stars Holt McCallany and Jonathan Groff, lapse, further raising the possibility that we may have seen the last of Mindhunter.
That is not entirely the case, the network told Deadline while confirming that the options on the cast, which includes co-star Anna Torv, have expired.

Bong Joon Ho is poised to dominate the arthouse box office this weekend with the hotly awaited opening of his 2019 Cannes Palme d’Or winner and Academy Awards hopeful “Parasite” in stateside theaters. The film has been lavished with wall-to-wall rave reviews up and down the festival circuit, and finally, it’s time for moviegoers to discover the latest masterwork from the South Korean director of “The Host,” “Okja,” and “Snowpiercer.”
In a recent interview with Collider, Bong spoke about many of his influences and fascinations as a filmmaker, whose satirical dark comedy “Parasite” represents South Korea in the Best International Feature Oscar race for the very first time — and is the favorite to win.
When asked for what TV series Bong would like to direct an episode, the director said “Mindhunter,” the Joe Penhall-created Netflix show about FBI criminal profilers in the early years of serial-killer studies.

Few directors enjoy documenting bureaucratic process quite like David Fincher, especially when it comes to tracking down serial killers. His 2007 film “Zodiac” explored the life-wrecking obsessive tendencies of those tracking down the Zodiac Killer in San Francisco. Despite a handful of unforgettably harrowing scenes, “Zodiac” is a dense procedural. In 2017, the director of “Zodiac” and “Seven” resumed his dive into the mind of serial killers with the first season of the surprising Netflix show “Mindhunter.” Now, Fincher is back with a trailer for season 2 of “Mindhunter.”

David Fincher and Joe Penhall’s Netflix original series “Mindhunter” is returning sometime this year, and yet that’s all the streaming giant has confirmed for Season 2. Netflix is being extra cautious when it comes to the new season and has not revealed any official details. What fans do know about “Mindhunter” Season 2 has come strictly from sources close to production (see the Season 2 director’s roster), or teases made by Fincher during interviews. “Mindhunter” Season 2 is being so secretive that recurring cast member Cameron Britton can’t even confirm or deny his involvement in the series moving forward.
Speaking to RadioTimes while promoting his role in Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy,” Britton remained cryptic when pushed to answer whether or not his “Mindhunter” serial killer and breakout character Ed Kemper will return at some point in the new episodes. “Netflix pulls those memories out of me,” Britton answered. “I...

It’s a huge bummer when a movie wastes incredible talent. Any film that boasts a cast like this, with Michael Caine at the top in a starring role, teaming up with Jim Broadbent, Tom Courtenay, Charlie Cox, Michael Gambon, and Ray Winstone, the final product should be way better. Throw in a quality director like James Marsh at the helm and this sounds like the talents behind an Oscar contender. Well, opening this week, King of Thieves is not that. This heist tale is slowly paced, dull, and a shall of what it could have been. Alas, this was a big time letdown. The film is a “based on a true story” crime drama. Centered on infamous true events in England, we follow a famous thief named Brian Reader (Caine) as he gets back in the game. Mourning the loss of his wife, he begins to pull together a...

It’s not about the robbery. King of Thieves wouldn’t be worth telling if it was just watching these senior actors ranging from 60 to 85 fictitiously accomplish the “biggest jewel heist in British history” since there obviously won’t be any foot-chases or complex wire-suspended acrobatics. No, the reason this tale (adapted by Joe Penhall from a Vanity Fair article by Mark Seal) proves interesting is due to the characters they portray. How do diabetes, incontinence, and hearing loss affect their chances of success? What incentive do these seasoned criminals have to avoid using their wiles to take advantage of the others regardless of any notions of friendship they might possess? And exactly how menacing can their jovial smiles turn once a million quid is put on the line?

Saban Films has picked up U.S. rights to the film King of Thieves from director James Marsh (The Theory of Everything).
Michael Caine and Jim Broadbent star in the true story about the biggest heist in U.K. history, where in April 2015 robbers stole £14 million in the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company burglary. Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, Ray Winstone and Charlie Cox also star in the pic.
Joe Penhall wrote the screenplay based on source material from Mark Seal’s Vanity Fair article and The Guardian’s veteran crime reporter Duncan Campbell.

Nobody has as much energy as they used to in “King of Thieves,” which is partly the point. James Marsh’s true-crime heist movie is built around two remarkably high figures: first, the £14 million value of the loot, making the burglary in question the largest in British legal history, and more crucially, the average age of the culprits, almost all of whom were veteran criminals well into retirement.
The Hatton Garden jewelry heist made international headlines in 2015, but could have been a story dreamed up in Ealing Studios’ midcentury prime: A Vanity Fair article on which this film is based was even titled “The Over-the-Hill Mob.” Small wonder, then, that British film producers have been swift to jump on it. Yet this proficiently polished thriller (the second big-screen treatment of the story in two years) seems to feel a creak in its own joints: Torn between jaunty genre hijinks and a bleaker streak of realism,...

Sir Michael Caine and an all-star cast of British wrinklies bicker and creak their way through the audacious Hatton Garden heist that shuffles into an lacklustre crime caper.
The Hatton Garden heist is the biggest robbery in British history since Bruce Reynolds slipped into a train conductor’s uniform and ransacked £2.6 million pounds (that’s £50 million quid in today’s money) from a Royal Mail train back in 1963. Surely, in 2015 a new breed of lithe, cunning and internet ready thieves, tunnelled their way into Hatton Garden’s safety deposit box vault and pinched jewellery, cash and gold to the tune of an estimated £300 million pounds…?
No. Maybe, ten or so years younger than The Great British Train Robbers, Brian Reader at 76 with his four man crew of old lags and a so-called security alarm expert, pulled off an audacious Easter Bank Holiday robbery that gripped the nation, and the wider world.

Lovable British rogues have enthralled cinema goers for the better part of a century in classic London crime capers like Brighton Rock, The Lavender Hill Mob, The Italian Job and The Long Good Friday, through to McVicar, Lock Stock, Sexy Beast and Legend (2015). Even when brandishing knuckle dusters, plotting to off little old ladies, threatening to shit the Ira or taking their shirts off (cas they’re “sweating like a c*%t”), these antiheroes have made a massive mark in cinema over the decades. Despite being synonymous with heist movies they are arguably a genre unto themselves yet, but while the widespread affection remains, there hasn’t been a truly memorable cockney/ London crime film or character for quite some time.
In 2015, the infamous Hatton Garden robbery, in which £200 million’s worth of cash and jewels were stolen from safety deposit boxes, provided film producers with the basis for a fresh and relevant take.
