Robyn Nevin in ‘Relic’.
Former Australian Writers’ Guild president Jan Sardi and actor Robyn Nevin were among the screen professionals to receive Queen’s Birthday Honours over the long weekend.
Sardi, Oscar-nominated for Shine and whose credits also include Mao’s Last Dancer and Love’s Brother, was named an Officer to the Order of Australia (Ao) for distinguished service to the film and television industries as a screenwriter and director, and to professional guilds.
Co-collaborator Mac Gudgeon, who worked with Sardi on projects like Ground Zero and The Secret River, said: “It’s a richly deserved honour. Not only because Jan’s a bloody good writer, but because it’s recognition of his selfless service, generosity of spirit, and courage and persistence in fighting for performance writers’ creative rights and remuneration for over 40 years.
“And the timing couldn’t be more ironic given Jan’s passionate advocacy for what’s unique about Australian culture,...

Peta Sergeant joins "The Originals" tomorrow night, but maybe you already caught her over the weekend in her saucy nurse’s uniform in the remake of 1978’s Aussie cult classic Patrick.
It’s just now available on VOD (unleashed on Friday the 14th), and I do highly recommend it. I never did see the original – but I love the whole idea of a supposedly comatose patient (the titular Patrick, played by Jackson Gallagher) who’s actually sentient… and maybe even evil.
Deftly directed by Mark Hartley (who previously did the well-received doc on Australian horror films Not Quite Hollywood), Patrick (review here) has a great old-school dread to it I just know everyone will want to see (and here's hoping everyone will want to read this interview with the delightful Ms. Sergeant as well)!
For you "Originals" fans, on Page 2 Peta gives her take on new character Francesca, a beautiful...

With the 2009 After Dark HorrorFest literally right around the corner, all sorts of exclusive goodness has been oozing its way online. The latest chunk? The final poster art for Perkins' 14. FEARnet scored the first look at this very retro poster and I have to say, I dig it.
The flick was actually developed online at Massify.com and follows the story of Robert Perkins who at the young age of just six blows a gasket when his folks end up murdered in their home. For the rest of his life Robert lives in fear as he is convinced that one day the killers will return for him. Not wanting to wait around while in his thirties Perkins kidnaps fourteen people from his hometown, and then brainwashes them into becoming a unified team of blood-thirsty crazies. Happens all the time, man.

A few weeks ago, a one-sheet surfaced for After Dark's original production Perkins' 14 , soon to be seen in Horrorfest III . That key art was whipped up by a Massify.com contest winner and today, the final and official poster image for the film has been revealed over at FearNET. Check it out in all of its old school glory by clicking on the preview below. Directed by Craig Singer, with a screenplay by Lane Shadgett, Perkins' 14 was developed online at Massify.com. Writers were invited to upload story pitches, and actors submitted audition videos. The site's community members then voted on their favorite story and on which actors they thought deserved to be cast in the four main roles. The winning idea, submitted by Jeremy Donaldson, follows Robert Perkins, who at age six,...

There's a piece of grindhouse-inspired key art floating around the web for the After Dark original horror film Perkins 14 . As we've come to learn, it's by no means finished product. "The below art was the piece selected by the Massify audience as the winner of our contest," explains our After Dark rep. "However, the MPAA did not approve it so we are tweaking it according to their comments. So that will not be the official key art at the end of the day." Perkins 14 was developed by the online community at Massify.com. The idea, submitted by Jeremy Donaldson and written by Lane Shadgett, follows Robert Perkins, who at age six, becomes mentally unstable when his parents are brutally murdered inside their home. His psychosis has him living the rest of his...

We first spotted the new poster for After Dark's 8 Films to Die For (official site) at this year's Sdcc. It was pretty hot then, but it is even better now that we've got an official hi-rez image of it!
Hot damn on a stick of holy fuck! That would make one sweet tattoo. Oh yeah, there's some skin and boobage too, I guess... Anyway, the third Horrorfest kicks off in January, and so far we know of three titles out of the eight: Broken, Slaughter (formerly Faithless) and Perkins' 14.
Perkins' 14, directed by Craig Singer, follows the strangeness of one Mr. Robert Perkins, who has built a brigade of 14 brainwashed bodyguards. All does not go well, however, as Perkins is kidnapped and his drones will do anything to see him safe ... anything.
Slaughter, or Faithless if you want, tells the tale of an abused woman seeking refuge from her...

A very cool surprise showed up in our inbox a few minutes ago; the first look at Craig Singer’s Perkins 14, the first film to be made utilizing all the wondrous tools of out interwebs.
In case you had forgotten, Perkins 14’s plot goes something like this; Robert Perkins builds an army of 14 people brainwashed through cult-like methods to protect him from his parents' killers. When Perkins is imprisoned, the police unwittingly unleash his followers on a small town and they've only got one thing on their mind: "Kill for Mr. Perkins”.
I’m guessing the lady below is one of the 14, which is unfortunate because really, you’d see something like that coming, woudn’t you?
Perkins 14 will be out in January as part of the 3rd annual Horrorfest, keep it here for more info very soon!
