Friday Night Dinner knows the truth about families. Not that they bicker, mock and childishly compete – sitcom’s known about that since Steptoe & Son. No, Friday Night Dinner knows that families aren’t made up of people; they’re made up of odd habits.
Did you ever invite a friend home from school and pray that none of your family’s Weird Stuff would leak out into the playground the next day? That your mum’s special word for a fart wouldn’t follow you down the corridor into Maths, and the dinner hall wouldn’t echo with the high-pitched voice in which you all talk to the dog? Perhaps you hoped against hope that your brother wouldn’t be wearing his comedy Viz Buster Gonad t-shirt, that no-one would see the wooden clothes peg holding open the choke on your dad’s car, and that nobody would call...

In 2021, Pointless fans had to come to terms with the fact that change is the only constant in this crazy, crazy world when the show’s co-creator and co-host Richard Osman left to pursue other career opportunities such as being an incredibly successful crime novelist, and taking the main seat on his own game show Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Good for Richard Osman, it all seems to be very going well for him. But for Pointless?
Taking its cue from satirical current affairs show Have I Got News For You?, which settled on a revolving carousel of guest hosts when its regular host Angus Deayton was forced to step down instead of plumping for a permanent chair, Pointless has welcomed a series of co-hosts in the past couple of years.

Johnny Depp is back in the directors chair — complete with his big signature hats — for the first time in decades.
Depp is seen directing the cast of the film “Modi” in first look photos that were released from the set. Al Pacino plays a supporting role as real-life French art collector Maurice Gangnat.
The film is Depp’s first time directing since the 1997 feature “The Brave,” as well as his first major project after his 2022 legal victory over Amber Heard.
Per the press release, “Modi” follows “the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani in a 48-hour whirlwhind, capturing a chaotic series of events through the streets and bars of war-torn Paris during World War I. On the run from the police, Modi’s desire to end his career and leave the city is dismissed by fellow Bohemians. The chaos reaches a crescendo when he’s faced with a collector who could change his life.

A raucous comedy from playwright Camilla Whitehill, “Big Mood” teams “Bridgerton” and “Derry Girls” alum Nicola Coughlan with ‘It’s a Sin’ star Lydia West to dive headlong into mental illness and friendship. Fremantle, heading global distribution, will showcase the project in Cannes as part of its Mipcom slate. The market kicks off Oct.16.
A divinely sardonic and captivating laugh riot, the upcoming Channel 4 series presents an earnest portrait of mania and biologically-induced despair in a world where mental health has been commodified and sanitized for ease of consumption. Whitehill manages a highly nuanced depiction of Coughlan’s Maggie, whose bipolar pendulum swings erratically, as she tries desperately to regain control of her fleeting agency while clinging tightly to longtime friend Eddie, played by West.
“We’ve done a lot of patting ourselves on the back as a society, saying, ‘We’re really facing mental health,’ but we’re not.

Love at First Sight is a rom-com film about fate and love at first sight. Directed by Vanessa Caswill from a screenplay by Katie Lovejoy the film is based on a 2011 novel titled The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith. Love at First Sight follows the story of Hadley (Hailey Lu Richardson) and Oliver (Ben Hardy) as they meet for the first time at an airport and fall in love during a flight from America to London.
While the Netflix film adds nothing new to the rom-com genre it does provide you with enough entertainment that it is worthy of your time. Any rom-com needs its lead pairing to work perfectly and I think Richardson and Hardy have great chemistry in the film which makes Love at First Sight all the more enjoyable.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight author Jennifer E. Smith has nothing but praise for Love at First Sight, the 2023 Netflix adaptation of her 2011 bestselling novel. The new trailer introduces the two strangers whose meet-cute occurs in an airport. Haley Lu Richardson (White Lotus) and Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody) star as the couple who experience a much more enjoyable flight than most travelers.
Author Smith told Netflix’s Tudum that she’s thrilled with Richardson and Hardy as the leads. “They are such a great Hadley and Oliver. They’re so charming and winning, and they have great chemistry. They just did right by the characters,” said Smith.
Katie Lovejoy adapted Smith’s book and Vanessa Caswill directed. Discussing the author, Caswill noted, “Jennifer was so trusting and generous and not precious in the slightest. […]She wrote me the sweetest email after she finally watched the film. It was so lovely,...

Taskmaster’s weekly prize task involves each contestant bringing in an item that responds to the same prompt (Most Powerful Smell/Best Chair/Most Important Document…) in the hope of winning the lot at the end of the episode. It’s the first task of every show, a chance for the comedians to land a punchline early doors, and points-wise, to bag what series 15 runner-up Ivo Graham might refer to as “a Sweet Five”.
All that time to plan the perfect response! What a boon for swots and “Be Prepared” types, you might think. Sometimes. And sometimes not. The capricious nature of the Taskmaster’s scoring logic often finds painstakingly honed prize task entries sent away with a single point while zero-thought efforts delivered with conviction sail off with the big money. Taskmaster is chaotic enough as it is – that’s why we love it so much – so can you imagine the kinds of unbroadcastable mayhem that occurs during filming?
Well, you don’t need to imagine, because we’ve rounded up a wild array of anecdotes from former contestants podcast interviews, the Taskmaster book and Little Alex Horne himself about all kinds of secret shenanigans that occurred but didn’t (and mostly couldn’t) make the cut:
Task Attempts Nixed For Legal Reasons
The producers certainly have their hands full trying to prevent the contestants from going overboard, with some attempts at tasks being either illegal or simply unbroadcastable.
Mark Watson also revealed that one unaired task in series 5 – in which contestants had to make five far-fetched predictions come true – was cut because Sally Phillips predicted something “legally compromising.” We’d love to know what that was…

Haley Lu Richardson is opening up about auditioning for Marvel and how “overwhelming” it was for The White Lotus star the time she tried to enter the superhero world.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the star of The Edge of Seventeen recalled doing a screen test for a Marvel project that she ultimately didn’t end up booking.
“I did do a big screen test for a Marvel character, and there was like real cameras there, and they did our hair, and makeup, and stuff,” she said (via Comic Book). “But they just directed us in what kind of street clothes to wear, like what colors and stuff. We didn’t actually get in a superhero costume.”
Richardson added, “But yeah, it’s just so overwhelming, because you’re just committing to something, and you haven’t even seen a script.”

It takes many people to fill Richard Osman’s shoes, and not just because he wears a size 14. Back in April 2021, the TV presenter, producer and novelist announced that he was leaving his co-presenter role on Pointless to focus on his hugely successful Thursday Murder Club book series and other projects. Due to the ‘stars we see in the night sky are actually hundreds of years in the past’ nature of TV broadcast, by that point, Osman was already four months out of the job. His final episode of the regular Pointless (he’ll still appear on the celebrity editions) was filmed in December 2021 and aired in July 2022, with this touching message to Alexander Armstrong.
When Pointless returned for Series 28 in September 2022, it came with a rotating clutch of new guest-hosts sitting behind Osman’s fact-checking desk. First up was Sally Lindsay, and following her were Stephen Mangan, Lauren Laverne,...

Likable debut feature casts Sally Phillips as the mother of two tearaways, one of whom turns crimefighter when his motorbike is pinched
An expanded version of a well-received short of the same name made in 2018, this represents a sparky if a smidge predictable feature debut for writer-director William Stone, fronted by a mix of fresh and familiar onscreen faces. The redoubtable Sally Phillips probably worked three or four days max to play put-upon working-class Sharon, mother to two variously dodgy young men, all of them living on a Bristol council estate in the 1980s. The younger brother Steve has a steady job working at the local butcher and boosts his income with illegal fishing, selling the catch to a local restaurant. As the film starts, he’s finally saved enough scratch to buy a small Honda Xl 125 motorbike, which promptly gets nicked five minutes after he drives it home and...

King Charles III will appear in an episode of BBC One’s The Repair Shop programme to celebrate 100 years of the broadcasting service.
The show provides a “heartwarming antidote to throwaway culture” by encouraging members of the public to bring family heirlooms in need of repairs.
In this special episode set in Ayrshire in Scotland, the King meets the show’s host Jay Blades – who was recently given an MBE by the King – for a tour of Dumfries House. The episode was filmed in the autumn of last year, when the King was then the Prince of Wales.
Dumfries is owned by the King’s foundation, which runs a programme teaching traditional skills such as wood carving.
During the episode, the King will give Blades a tour of the grounds before meeting some students taking part in the programme. The Repair Shop team also attempts to fix a clock and...

Shirley Ballas has spoken out against “hurtful messages” she has received following recent episodes of Strictly Come Dancing.
The professional ballroom and Latin dancer, who has been the head judge on the show since 2017, came under fire after choosing to save Richie Anderson instead of Fleur East on Sunday’s (9 October) edition of the show.
Her fellow judges, Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke, had unanimously selected East and her partner Vito Coppola as the most skilled pair.
Although Ballas was ultimately overruled, some viewers disagreed with her opinion so strongly as to call for her removal from the programme, as well as accusing her of sexism.
A representative of Ballas firmly denied that sexism was part of Ballas’s judgement in a statement made to The Independent.
As well as this, the dancer and head judge addressed the backlash with a post on Twitter.

Married at First Sight UK fans have shared their delight in former contestant Kasia’s edit of her wedding photos.
The London-based beauty entrepreneur was partnered with fellow business owner Kwame in the current season of the E4 social experiment.
Paired together in the early stages of the programme, Kasia and Kwame had mixed success during their time on the show, as they tried to see whether a marriage between them would work.
However, after Kwame refused to bring Kasia to his home or introduce her to his relatives, Kasia chose to end the relationship, and subsequently their time on the show, on Thursday’s (6 October) episode.
On Monday (10 October), Kasia shared some images from their wedding day on social media.
However, she decided only to feature herself in the joint photos, and digitally scribbled a red marker over Kwame’s face.

Sally Phillips has claimed that Hugh Grant doesn’t speak to her anymore after she got “very drunk” during the filming of Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
The 52-year-old appeared in all three of the romantic comedy films alongside Grant and Renée Zellweger. She plays Bridget’s friend Shazza.
During the filming of the second movie, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, the cast visited Thailand to shoot scenes for Bridget’s work trip.
In the plot, Phillips’ character falls in love with a man on the plane, who turns out to be a drug smuggler who causes Bridget to end up in a Thai jail.
Phillips has now admitted that she got so “drunk” during their time there that Grant became “afraid” of her.
“Hugh Grant doesn’t talk to me, ‘cause I got very drunk in Thailand and was very indiscreet, and then he became afraid of my giant mouth,...
