There are a lot cult classics from the 1980s, but Road House stands somewhere near the top. Sure, many of its fans wouldn’t label it as such, since they lovingly, legitimately and unironically adore it. But there’s no use in arguing it belongs in one camp over another or that it is unapologetically everything it sets out to be. But it – and its cult following – couldn’t have happened without a few broken ribs, a don’t-take-no producer and some pervy late-night phone calls to a star’s spouse. Yes, it involves Bill Murray… So, pour some suds and rip some throats because we’re gonna find out: Wtf Happened to this Movie?!
Road House comes from a script by David Lee Henry (a pseudonym for R. Lance Hill) and Hilary Henkin and tells of a dude with a mullet named Dalton hired to “cool” the Double Deuce bar,...

The 1988 action film "Die Hard" is the movie that turned the late Alan Rickman into a household name. He played Hans Gruber, a criminal mastermind who holds an office building hostage during a company Christmas party. Gruber has a scheme to steal 600 million, and he has no qualms about killing people to get it. There's a lot of reasons the movie works so well, but the back-and-forth between Gruber and John McClane (Bruce Willis) is a core part of what makes it a beloved classic.
Although Rickman was not well-known at the time of filming, and this was his first ever major role in an action movie, that didn't stop him from giving his thoughts to the writers and directors. In a 2015 interview, Rickman recalled making a suggestion to producer Joel Silver, saying it would be far more interesting for Gruber to be wearing a suit in the scene where...

Though I’m sure it wasn’t the first, Road House is one of the first action movies I can remember that was equally enjoyed by male and female. Fresh off of the success of Dirty Dancing, Patrick Swayze stepped up to play badass bar bouncer Dalton, an expert at his craft, but still a stranger in a strange land. Based on reputation alone, Dalton is hired by the owner of a notorious bar called the Double Deuce. It seems the bar has been taken over by the seedy elements that haunt it, and so it’s time for Dalton to clean it up. When he realizes that the it’s the town that houses the bar that is the root of the corruption, Dalton calls in his good friend and mentor Wade Garrett, played cooler and badder-assed than ever by Sam Elliott, to help him tear it to the ground.

The Academy has announced the new class of invited members for 2014 and, as is typical, many of which are among last year's nominees, which includes Barkhad Abdi, Michael Fassbender, Sally Hawkins, Mads Mikkelsen, Lupita Nyong'o and June Squibb in the Actors branch not to mention curious additions such as Josh Hutcherson, Rob Riggle and Jason Statham, but, okay. The Directors branch adds Jay and Mark Duplass along with Jean-Marc Vallee, Denis Villeneuve and Thomas Vinterberg. I didn't do an immediate tally of male to female additions or other demographics, but at first glance it seems to be a wide spread batch of new additions on all fronts. The Academy is also clearly attempting to aggressively bump up the demographics as this is the second year in a row where they have added a large number of new members, well over the average of 133 new members from 2004 to 2012. As far as...

Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o of 12 Years a Slave were two of the 271 artists and industry leaders invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which determines nominations and winners at the annual Oscars. The entire list of Academy membership—which numbers about 6,000—isn’t public information so the annual invitation list is often the best indication of the artists involved in the prestigious awards process. It’s worth noting that invitations need to be accepted in order for artists to become members; some artists, like two-time Best Actor winner Sean Penn, have declined membership over the years.

Pop quiz: What do Chris Rock, Claire Denis, Eddie Vedder and Josh Hutcherson all have in common? Answer: They could all be Oscar voters very soon. The annual Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences invitation list always makes for interesting reading, shedding light on just how large and far-reaching the group's membership is -- or could be, depending on who accepts their invitations. This year, 271 individuals have been asked to join AMPAS, meaning every one of them could contribute to next year's Academy Awards balloting -- and it's as diverse a list as they've ever assembled. Think the Academy consists entirely of fusty retired white dudes? Not if recent Best Original Song nominee Pharrell Williams takes them up on their offer. Think it's all just a Hollywood insiders' game? Not if French arthouse titans Chantal Akerman and Olivier Assayas join the party. It's a list that subverts expectation at every turn.

Veteran stunt coordinator Charlie Picerni has worked with countless movie stars such as Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon), Bruce Willis (Die Hard 1, 2) and now Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez in Getaway. Getaway’s stunt coordinator reveals three things he tells his actors before shooting an action scene.
One hundred cars were destroyed in the making of Getaway. Picerni, who got his start as Paul Michael Glaser’s stunt double in the 70s tv show Starsky & Hutch, tells CineMovie Getaway is the “biggest car movie, I have ever done. And thus does a summer that started with a silly car chase picture end with a sillier one."Getaway" has some of the elements of a good gear grinder -- a B-movie where a car takes a pivotal role in the cast.
It's got Ethan Hawke, doing enough of his own driving to pass muster with the likes of Ryan Gosling ("Drive"), Dax Shepard ("Hit and Run"), or Paul Walker ("Fast & Furious"). It's got a cool car -- a Shelby Super Snake version of the Ford Mustang.
It has an unusual city setting -- Sofia, Bulgaria.
And then Selena Gomez shows up as the mouthy, tech-savvy sidekick dragged along for a long, Christmas season chase through the not-quite-generic (tramlines, train tracks) mean streets of Sofia.
That's where the silly kicks in. Things turn pulse-pounding in the third act, but that's entirely too late to rescue this end-of-summer orphan.

We heard from the fine folks behind the WWII vampire project The Bleeding (not to be confused with Charlie Picerni’s direct-to-video action horror film that starred Michael Matthias, Vinnie Jones, Dmx, and Michael Madsen) a little while ago with an update and some fresh promo art for you. Get the skinny and the eye candy below!
German director Josef Rusnak (The Thirteenth Floor, It's Alive, The Contractor) is now attached to direct. Jeremy Wall (Jaz Films) optioned the script and is producing along with Corina Danckwerts. They produced the supernatural thriller The Objective, written and directed by Daniel Myrick (The Blair Witch Project). The Bleeding is based on a short story by Bram Stoker Award-nominated William R. Trotter entitled "The Bleeding of Hauptmann Gehlen". The script was penned by John and Paul Buckholts, who are also executive producing.

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Circo Trailer Here in the southwest I think you can take a band like Calexico for granted. They have a dusty, desert charm that draws...

The fine folks over at Anchor Bay Entertainment have given us the first look at an exclusive clip from director Charlie Picerni’s horror-actioner “The Bleeding”, featuring Michael Madsen as a vampire-slaying priest showing the weapons of the trade to the film’s hero Shawn Black, played by Michael Matthias. Which begs the question: how do you convince a priest to bless hollow point bullets? And Uzis? And Thompson machine guns? Man, that must be one understanding priest! Shawn Black (Matthias) knows pain. His parents and brother were killed in front of him. Beaten, bloodied and left for dead by a gang of ruthless vampires led by the charismatic Cain (Jones) and his lethal lieutenant Vanya (Kat Von D). But like his would-be murderers, Shawn has come back from the brink of death to take his revenge. He soon comes upon Reverend Roy (Madsen), who reveals to Shawn his calling as a “slayer,...

I gotta admit, this first clip for Charlie Picerni’s long-delayed vampire movie “The Bleeding” is a hell of a lot better than what I saw in the film’s debut trailer. That trailer was just … wow, it was pretty bad. This clip, though? It looks pretty damn good. Very nifty gunplay and well-shot. Who would have thunk it? Gigapix Studios has thrown a new distribution company into the mix: Gigapix Releasing.
The new company has acquired U.S. theatrical rights to an inaugural slate that includes the thriller "The Tortured," the campy horror film "The Bleeding" and the horror remake "Mother's Day," which just had its premiere at the Austin-based Fantastic Fest. Gigapix plans a release later this year for "The Bleeding," with releases for "The Tortured" and "Mother's Day" planned for early next year.
Gigapix Releasing has access to a print and advertising fund through New Legacy Media, which has provided P&A investments to more than a hundred films. In addition, Gigapix and New Legacy are pursuing another $100 million P&A fund.

The Bleeding
Stars: Michael Matthias, Vinnie Jones, Michael Madsen, Armand Assante, Dmx | Written by Lance Lane | Directed by Charlie Picerni
Shawn Black (Matthias) is an ex-army ranger returning home after fighting for his country. When a sect of vampires attack his family home, they kill his parents, burn down his house and leave him for dead. Surrounded by carnage, slaughter and total mayhem Black takes the fight to the Vampire hordes in a desperate race to save the world from pure evil.
The film, which comes from one of the producers of Rambo and Righteous Kill, is in the same vain as the original Rambo movie – war hero returns from battle to face another war at home. Only this war is against vampires! Yes you’ve guessed it, The Bleeding is Buffy for blokes (although wasn’t Buffy really aimed at fellas?) – with the unwitting vampire slayer played by newcomer Michael Matthias,...

This scribe hit the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of Crush Film’s The Bleeding last night at Sunset 5 in Hollywood, CA, and chatted with the film’s co-star and tattoo artist extraordinaire Kat Von D of the reality series "La Ink". Von D talked up her role as the sexy vampire Vanya in what is her feature film debut, which was directed by Charles Picerni, as well as riffed on the effects required of her.
"It was very rock n’ roll! The prosthetics were my favorite part, and I made friends with all of the prop guys," Von D told Dread Central of her relationship with the film’s FX team. "The hardest part was when I had to bite this girl’s neck when she was tied up. I felt so bad because she was a really good actress and she was screaming and I was...

The Bleeding, which comes out next month looks like a B-movie from the past with Vinnie Jones donning the vampire make-up and Michael Madsen the priest outfit. Not likely to make too many theatres in three weeks The Bleeding will nonetheless be released this November 10 with Armand Assante, Dmx, Rachelle Leah and others starring in a vampire apocalypse. Is the film just a paycheck, or something more? It is too hard to answer this question at this point, but the trailer is just passable as the narration fades in and out while the best parts of The Road Warrior are replayed onscreen. But stay tuned for more info' as it is too soon to tell whether The Bleeding is a wolf in sheeps clothing, or a disasterpiece waiting to happen.

Tough guys 'n vampires. We've seen the combo before in cinema, but The Bleeding , from director Charles Picerni, is offering a new concoction of bad-asses with Vinnie Jones, Michael Matthias, Michael Madsen, Dmx and Armand Assante. The testosterone is overwhelming. The Bleeding is officially complete and a screening for us press folk is just around the corner. Today, we've got a look at promo art from Arsenal Pictures (to the left) and a trailer (below). And yes, that's Kat Von D you see vamping it up. Synopsis: When ex-us Army Ranger Shawn Black searches for the brutal killer of his parents, he discovers a terrifying family of vampires led by Cain, The Vampire King. Tipped off by a friendly cop and fortified with blessed weaponry supplied to him by a boozy priest,...

Vinnie Jones has done a lot of ass kicking in his film career. Usually it's other people who are at the receiving end of his huge boot, but this time it's the vampires who find themselves on the short end of the stick!
The Bleeding directed by stunt man Charlie Picerni and starring Vinnie Jones, Michael Madsen, Dmx, Armand Assante, William McNamara, and Katherine von Drachenberg (aka Kat von D) tells the tale of an ex-Army Ranger searching for the killer of his parents who discovers a family of vampires in a former chemical weapons factory-turned-nightclub.
Sound good? Tell you what ... watch the trailer below, which was originally brought to our attention by Quiet Earth; it looks even better! Dig it!

Without even trying, The Bleeding looks like the best Grindhouse homage we've seen since, well Grindhouse. It's so completely and utterly strange in its combination of elements that it looks like its from another time altogether.
The Bleeding is also a film that might be for those of you who think Daybreakers looks a little too slick, but still want to see a gritty Vampire apocalypse in action. Not that The Bleeding expressly ever comes out and says it's about vampires mind you, it's just something I pieced together from this trailer.
Synopsis:
Surrounded by carnage, slaughter, brutal crashes and total mayhem, Shawn Black is in a race to save the world from pure evil.
The director of The Bleeding is stunt man Charlie Picerni, which is why there's an abundance of car stunts in this footage.
