Exclusive: Out at the Cannes market, LA-based production company Convergence Entertainment Group is launching There There, which is being written and directed by the Polish brothers in their first collaboration in more than a decade.
The film has begun principal photography and the duo are hopeful it will premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. This would be the sixth Polish Brothers film to premiere at the festival.
On There There, each of the twin brothers will write and direct one half of the movie without the other knowing anything about the other, resulting in two separate storylines that will be interwoven into a single feature-length film. This approach will enable each brother to explore the nature of the twin relationship from their own unique perspective without being influenced or constrained by the other’s vision.

Featuring Sylvester Stallone in what sounds like a rare villain role, action thriller Alarum has just finished shooting. Scott Eastwood and Willa Fitzgerald also star.
The Shakespearian-sounding Alarum, an action thriller starring Sylvester Stallone, has just finished filming – and like Brad Anderson’s World-Breaker, is another mid-budget genre film looking for distribution at Cannes this week.
Directed by Michael Polish (Terror On The Prairie), Alarum appears to have cast Stallone in a rare villain role. To the best of our recollection, the only other time Sly’s played an antagonist was in Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003.
Alarum’s leads are Scott Eastwood and Willa Fitzgerald, who play a pair of professional assassins who are off on a romantic break when they find themselves pursued by murderous CIA agents – the scariest of them played by Stallone.

Can television have its own New Hollywood moment?
Much like movies such as Bonnie and Clyde, The Graduate, Rosemary’s Baby and Easy Rider took the late 1960s by storm, a group of writers and directors are hoping that their own independent TV projects can break through and find their way to the small screen amidst the current Hollywood contraction.
After a number of web series such as Issa Rae’s The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl, Broad City and High Maintenance were turned into TV series over the past decade, writers and directors hoped that this would lead to more.
However, the rise of streaming originals saw the business go the other way, with incredibly expensive dramas and comedies, often led by movie stars, taking over. This trend is now waning and a new generation of creators hopes that cost-conscious companies will now pay more attention to their projects instead.

Gina Carano gained significant recognition as Cara Dune in the first two seasons of ‘The Mandalorian.’ Initially, there were plans for both the actress and her character, including a standalone show. However, these plans changed due to controversial social media posts where Carano made comparisons and touched on sensitive topics that clashed with Disney’s image.
In a matter of hours, Carano lost her spinoff and her job, learning about it through the press. It’s clear she still harbors resentment towards the studio for her abrupt firing. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carano shared her initial reaction to the firing and other related issues.
I just laid down and cried and cried. I curled into a fetal position. It’s not that I didn’t think that something like that could happen. It was that I couldn’t imagine they would put out this horrendous statement...

Gina Carano is in recent times most notably known as Cara Dune, a pretty big character in the two first seasons of ‘The Mandalorian.’ The studio had seemingly big plans both for the actress and for her character, as she was at one point supposed to receive her own standalone show. But, everything changed due to a series of controversial social media posts in which Carano compared anti-vaxers to Jews, and after she touched upon other sensitive topics that aren’t quite in tune with modern sensibilities and the image that Disney is trying to maintain.
In a span of a few hours, Carano lost her spinoff and her job as she was fired by the studio. She learned this via the press. It’s evident that Carano still has forgiven the studio for the firing, and her reaction is reasonable. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter Carano...

In late 2018, Gina Carano — a pioneering mixed martial arts champion who successfully transitioned to acting in Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 film Haywire — was blissfully staring up at the stars. They weren’t actual stars, but digital facsimiles projected onto a massive, domed screen — all part of a groundbreaking new effects technology from Industrial Light & Magic known as the Volume. Carano lived in Hermosa Beach at the time, just 15 minutes from Manhattan Beach Studios, where she was working on a top-secret sci-fi project, code name Project Huckleberry. But thanks to the Volume, she might as well have been 3 million light years away.

Mark Polish, the less prolific filmmaking twin of Michael Polish, has little nice to say about today’s youngsters in Murmur, which aims to be a Blair Witch for digital natives. Throwing a half-dozen annoying social-media producers into the forest with only their cell phones and a deeply dubious game they won’t stop playing, it might’ve looked like a cautionary fable if only it maintained any sort of distance from its protagonists. Instead, it’s wholly on board for screens-based storytelling and TikTok attention spans, the result being that most viewers not addicted to such stuff will find it insufferable from its first moments. Even setting such opinions aside, its value as an unscary horror pic is next to nil, and as screens-based mayhem goes, it ranks far below peers like Spree.

We are informed that for an instant connection we should look into a stranger’s eyes exactly long enough to register their colour. Good spies hide in plain sight. Most effectively, they find out which story the other person is dying to be told.

Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson’s Rogue Agent star James Norton with Anne-Katrin Titze: “We didn’t want it to feel like a predictable charm, the kind of suave spies in the James Bond vein.”

In Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson’s percipient Rogue Agent we first encounter James Norton (the tutor John Brooke in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women and Oliver Ashford in Amma Asante’s Belle) as Robert Freegard in the process of applying for a job as bartender in a rural English pub, located near a small agricultural college.

Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish's marriage may be ending, but their love and respect for each other carries on. On Aug. 5, the 38-year-old actress announced that she and the 50-year-old filmmaker are separating. In a post shared to Instagram, Bosworth looked back at how their love story started. It was 2011 and they were filming Big Sur, a movie she starred in and Polish directed. "'Do you want to split a burger?' Yes," she recalled. "'How 'bout a shot of whiskey?' Hell yes." As she took the trip down memory lane, Bosworth reflected on how "the beginning is often the best part of love." "Fireworks, magnets, rebellion—the...

Photo: 'American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally'/Vertical Entertainment Michael Polish attempts to bring awareness to Mildred Gillars in 'American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally.' The film tells the true story of Mildred Gillars, an American woman who lived in Germany and was hired as a host for a popular radio broadcast that perpetuated Nazi propaganda to fans around the world. It is based on a book of the same name by William E. Owens. The character that Mildred Gillars would play on this radio show, Axis Sally, would attempt to demoralize, devalue, and cripple American soldiers' war efforts against Nazis during World War 2. It’s not a critic’s place to say (or to know) if “American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally” only exists because producer and star Meadow Williams — eager to jumpstart an unremarkable career that might have reached its high point with a small part in the Mel Gibson Hulu movie “Boss Level” — used some of the $800 million fortune she controversially inherited from her much older and very dead vitamin tycoon husband to buy herself a starring role in a biopic so chintzy that it seems like even Al “I’ll do literally anything as long as my hair gets to look like a dead bird” Pacino had to get Bowfingered into being in it.
All a critic can say is that no other explanation would seem to account for the unnatural lifelessness of this film about the first woman ever convicted for treason against the United States. No other...

Oscar-winner Al Pacino and Meadow Williams star in American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally, the historical drama hitting select theaters this Memorial Day weekend via Vertical Entertainment and Redbox Entertainment. Michael Polish directed the film, which is based on a true story and follows the life of American woman Mildred Gillars (Williams) and her lawyer (Pacino), who struggle to redeem her reputation.
Dubbed “Axis Sally” for broadcasting Nazi propaganda to American troops during World War II, Mildred’s story exposes the dark underbelly of the Third Reich’s hate-filled propaganda machine, her eventual capture in Berlin, and subsequent trial for treason against the United States after the war.
Mitch Pileggi, Thomas Kretschmann, Lala Kent, Carsten Norgaard, and Swen Temmel round out the cast. The pic, which is based on William E. Owen’s novel, Axis Sally Confidential, is also available on-demand. William and Vance Owen’s book Axis Sally Confidential,...

In 1981’s “Lili Marleen,” directed by German provocateur R.W. Fassbinder, the titular song is repeatedly played to an imprisoned man in an effort to break his spirit. In “American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally,” it takes only one rendition to have much the same effect on the viewer, though that may be because by the time Mildred Gillars (Meadow Williams) performs it at some Nazi Party party, we’ve already had an hour of this utterly absurd movie, and are ready to crack.
Clumsy, campy and kitsch, but also deadeningly dull for long stretches, “American Traitor” is directed by Michael Polish (“The Astronaut Farmer”) and based on the true story of radio star Gillars, aka Axis Sally, an American wannabe actress who found notoriety as the English-language voice of the Third Reich’s propaganda machine. Movie History 101 will soon be in the Summer Session at the local multiplex (or for those still “in-home learning” streaming online). And just where does the course, begin? What better backdrop than the last World War, number II if you’re taking notes. However, this week’s lesson plan, feature film actually, doesn’t concern any major battles, or big military milestones. This is a story about the use of propaganda, though its use goes back far before the printed word. But in WWII, this weapon of persuasion hit the airwaves, the radio airwaves to be precise. Last year, Da 5 Bloods included flashbacks to the broadcasts of Hanoi Hannah, a sultry voice that was usually laughed off by the GIs. Twenty or so years before her, there was Tokyo Rose, going out through WWII’s war in the Pacific. Less well known was the siren of the war in Europe,...

"I did what I could to survive..." Vertical Entertainment has released the official trailer for a legal drama called American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally, the latest from director Michael Polish. An American woman named Mildred Gillars, played in this by Meadow Williams, broadcast Nazi propaganda during World War II. She was dubbed "Axis Sally" by the American GIs who simultaneously loved and hated her because of her voice. The story plunges viewers into the very dark underbelly of the Third Reich's hate-filled propaganda machine, Sally's eventual capture, and the subsequent trial for treason in Washington D.C. after the war. The main cast also includes Al Pacino as lawyer James Laughlin, Thomas Kretschmann, Mitch Pileggi, Lala Kent, and Carsten Norgaard. This seems like a fascinating story to tell, but doesn't look like a very interesting film. Official trailer for Michael Polish's American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally,...

Director Michael Polish has been sued for allegedly assaulting a member of the crew during a production in Montana last fall.
Jack Renner, an art director based in Washington, D.C., was hired to work on a project entitled “Bring on the Dancing Horses.” Renner alleges that shortly after he arrived, he and Polish had a conversation about their dogs. Polish made a reference to shooting dogs that bite, and said something about “always packing heat,” the suit states.
According to the suit, which was filed Thursday in district court in Butte, Mont., Renner said the only gun Polish had was his finger, and pointed his thumb and finger in the shape of a gun to illustrate.
Renner alleges that Polish then became enraged, and threw him to the ground and screamed at him: “Get off my fucking show, you fucker!” According to the complaint, Renner hit his head on the ground.

Madman Entertainment’s father-and-son comedy Made in Italy and Icon’s Mel Gibson starrer Force of Nature launched reasonably well last weekend but neither could match the market leader, Studiocanal’s Unhinged in its third frame.
Nonetheless exhibitors were encouraged by the uptick in ticket sales as proof that people are returning to cinemas in the lead-up to Warner Bros’ Tenet, which will have paid previews next weekend before the August 27 debut.
The re-issue of Disney’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope also juiced takings, as Numero reported the top 20 titles collared $2.3 million, up 10 per cent on the prior frame.
Magnum Films’ South Korean action horror film Peninsula and Rialto’s French import La Belle Époque had respectable debuts.
Director Derrick Borte’s road rage thriller Unhinged, which stars Russell Crowe and Caren Pistorius, rang up $452,000 on 198 screens, hoisting the total to $2.3 million.

A trio of original films, all initially expected to have theatrical releases, found considerable interest at home over the holiday weekend. Broadway juggernaut “Hamilton,” Rod Lurie War movie “The Outpost,” and Jon Stewart’s political comedy “Irresistible” have little in common on the surface, but each served as a July 4th tie-in its way. Their shared success reflects a public that remains interested in original movies — wherever they may watch them.
“Hamilton,” set in the formative days of the republic, may have been the home viewing event of the weekend. Unlike rival Netflix, Disney+ doesn’t provide a list of its most popular offerings. Gauging response to the studio’s $75 million acquisition of the original show’s recording is mostly anecdotal, but app analytics provider Apptopia says Disney+ downloads over the weekend were 266,084 — a 72 percent increase when compared to the average number of Disney+ downloads over the four previous weekends.

Michael Polish is a director who has not let his work be defined by a single genre, so one can expect something completley different with each project. With Force of Nature, Polish takes on the action thriller genre but instead of shooting a straight ahead B-movie, he tackes a refreshingly layered storyline.
