'Alice in Wonderland' 2010 with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. 'Alice in Wonderland' 2010: Plenty of visuals, no substance In the interest of full disclosure, I should start this commentary on Alice in Wonderland by saying that I have never been a fan of Tim Burton's works. I've enjoyed a couple of his movies, but the vast majority of them I've found uninspiring and, really, quite boring. Burton's eye for unusual worlds, particularly in terms of art direction and costume design, is not lost on me. But how can I possibly find Tim Burton a great director when he continues to offer the same tricks, over and over again? True, Burton's stories and characters change from movie to movie. What he offers, however, does not. What's there beyond cool visuals? What's there beyond the neo-gothic atmosphere he offers in Batman, or the brilliantly rendered chocolate factory playhouse in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?...

Reece Shearsmith is to play Patrick Troughton in the Doctor Who 50th anniversary biopic.
An Adventure in Space and Time - which will tell the story of the BBC sci-fi drama's early days - has been written by Shearsmith's League of Gentlemen co-star Mark Gatiss.
"I first asked Reece [to play this role] about 12 years ago when I started thinking about this project," Gatiss told the Radio Times. "We were in the midst of League of Gentlemen and I just remember thinking, if anyone plays Patrick Troughton, it should be Reece.
"Like the second Doctor, he's small, saturnine and a comic genius. The complete package. He thought it was a fantastic idea and I've kind of nurtured it all this time."
Troughton played the second Doctor between 1966 and 1969, inheriting the show's lead role from original star William Hartnell, who will be played by Harry Potter's David Bradley in the biopic.

During wartime innocence isn’t lost – it’s taken! Some say – an action movie, but if you check out the rest of this report you’ll see that Paul Hyett‘s directorial debut The Seasoning House is definitely a wartime horror. Brutal, aggressive & uncompromising film which gives a new look at the harshness of reality, arriving on the doorstep of an opiated world, seen through the eyes of a deaf-mute girl.
That’s exactly how Sean Pertwee, who plays one of the leading roles in the movie, described the whole thing. Beside him, The Seasoning House also stars Rosie Day, Kevin Howarth, Anna Walton, Jemma Powell and Alec Utgoff.
The Seasoning House is a grim and soulless place where young girls are bought and sold for men’s pleasure. Here we meet Angel, a young, orphaned girl enslaved by Viktor. Unbeknownst to her master, she moves between the walls and...

Check out the first brutal looking trailer for director Paul Hyett’s revenge-minded flick “The Seasoning House”. The film has been playing the festival circuits all year, and our own James Mudge saw it at Frightfest back in September and liked it. (You can read his review of the film here.) The British film pits Rosie Day against genre veteran Sean Pertwee, and may the best teenage girl with a big knife win. Sorry, Sean. The Seasoning House – where young girls are prostituted to the military. An orphaned deaf mute is enslaved to care for them. She moves between the walls and crawlspaces, planning her escape. Planning her ingenious and brutal revenge. “The Seasoning House” also stars Kevin Howarth, Anna Walton, Jemma Powell, Alec Utgoff, David Lemberg, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, and is due in UK theaters sometime in 2013. No word on a Stateside release date yet...
