BritBox has dropped the trailer for its miniseries “The Confessions of Frannie Langton,” which will premiere all four episodes March 8 in North America, Australia, South Africa, and the Nordic territories.
Starring Karla-Simone Spence in the lead role, “The Confessions of Frannie Langton” depicts a woman who is forcibly employed as a maid in a wealthy London household. When the estate’s owners are suddenly murdered, Frannie is perceived as the culprit and brought to prison, where she attempts to uncover the truth.
“This is my story, and it’s a story of love,” Spence says in a voiceover omnipresent throughout the trailer. “Though everyone expected it to be a story of murder and truth. No one ever expects any kind of story from a woman like me.”
In a particularly heated moment from the one-minute teaser, Spence exchanges a passionate kiss with co-star Sophie Cookson, hinting at the threads of...

Centred on a chaotic family coming to terms with an autism diagnosis, the Israeli comedy-drama “Yellow Peppers” never aired on British television, but it’s had a pronounced influence on British TV schedules over the past decade. First, it begat Peter Bowker’s direct adaptation “The A Word,” which over three series relocated several of its predecessor’s storylines to a picturesque Lake District setting, achieving the holy-grail combo of excellent reviews and high ratings for the BBC before finding a transatlantic home on Sundance TV.
Now “The A Word” generates its own variation in “Ralph & Katie,” a six-part spin-off charting the further adventures of soccer-mad Ralph (Leon Harrop) and his baker beloved Katie (Sarah Gordy). Noteworthy as characters with Down’s syndrome played by actors with Down’s syndrome, these lovebirds first won hearts during a third-series subplot on “The A Word,” moving in together against the advice of their overprotective,...

I wrote a sitcom, about two years ago - well, three episodes of a sitcom. I had the other three episodes all mapped out, in terms of plot and characters and so on - but I gave it a read-through one day and, in a fit of fury at its inferiority to "Arrested Development," deleted it from my hard drive. Now, I don't want to suggest that we're all a lot poorer for the loss of my TV show, or that it stood any chance of getting on television -- but I sometimes think about it when I realise that there must have been a point when Miranda Hart, writer and star of "Miranda," which has just returned for a second series, read through her script and conspicuously didn't think to herself, "Dear lord, this is really too appalling, and I'd be embarrassed to show it to anyone." On the contrary,...
