A new episode of The Black Sheep video series has arrived online this morning, and with this one we’re looking back at director Steve Miner‘s 1999 killer crocodile horror comedy Lake Placid (watch it Here). To find out why we think Lake Placid deserves more love than it gets, check out the video embedded above!
Scripted by David E. Kelley, Lake Placid tells the following story: When a mysterious creature violently kills a man in a Maine lake, Jack Wells, the local game warden, looks into the bizarre case, along with Sheriff Hank Keough and visiting paleontologist Kelly Scott. Looking for clues in a tooth that the beast left behind, Kelly and the others eventually locate the monster, a massive and vicious reptile eager to devour anything in its path. Can the crocodile-like creature be stopped?
The film stars Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Brendan Gleeson, Oliver Platt, Betty White,...

"What price would you pay to find love?" Netflix has released an official trailer for a cute romantic comedy titled Love, Guaranteed, starring Rachael Leigh Cook & Damon Wayans Jr. It's a bit strange, but this is made by the director of Daredevil and Ghost Rider, now doing a light-hearted romcom? Sure, okay. To save her small law firm, earnest lawyer Susan takes a high-paying case from Nick, a charming client who wants to sue a dating website that guarantees love. But as the case heats up, so do Susan and Nick's feelings for each other. I'm glad to see the romantic comedy spin in this - condemning dating websites and accusing them of being for-profit crap by narcissists. And I like the romance - based on honesty and genuine charm. The cast includes Heather Graham, Quynh Mi, Jed Rees, Lisa Durupt, and Brendan Taylor. At first glance, this looks pretty good!

Exclusive: Alchemy Fund aimed at supporting films in the £1m-£10m range.
London and Vancouver-based director and producer Ryan Bonder is launching Alchemy Film Fund, which will look to invest in projects in the £1m-£10m budget-range.
Backed by “a small stable of private investors” who have previously backed Bonder’s own slate of films, the fund will look to invest in film and TV projects via Eis schemes.
According to Border, whose sophomore feature The Brother (2016) was backed by the same private investors and Telefilm Canada, Alchemy will offer debt, tax credit and equity finance.
Bonder said: “The focus will be on unique director-led projects we believe have strong cross-over appeal.”
The fund will also look to back event-cinema projects: “While independent films struggles to find space in the theatrical market, filmmakers must become more creative in how their films are marketed and viewed,” he said.
“You have to offer something different and unique to reach...

The New Year is just now starting to feel for real. Folks are remembering to write 2016 on the check they sign and, who knows, maybe even starting to pay attention to the upcoming election season. Well, maybe. But before we get too serious about life let us savor some silliness. Deadpool is a film about a seriously messed up dude named Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds). He was a soldier. Then he was a mercenary. Eventually he becomes the superhero called Deadpool – beloved by geekdom the world over. This film is his origin story.
Deadpool was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, best known for Zombieland (2009), so they know the funny. It is based on the popular comic character work created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicleza. Tim Miller makes his feature film directorial debut here.

Jed Rees plays The Recruiter in this month’s Deadpool. He’s the mysterious man who finds terminally ill Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) and offers him the chance to not only live, but transform into a potty-mouthed, indestructible superhero.
Although he now lives outside Los Angeles, Rees was born and raised in Vancouver — as was Reynolds — which led to one of those “isn’t life funny” moments on the film’s Vancouver set.
“It was cool, we were shooting in the Cobalt Hotel, which is pretty famous for being a complete dive bar,” says Rees on the line from his California home, “and I’m thinking, ‘Here’s a couple of kids from Vancouver working on a big movie in their hometown.’”
Rees has appeared in more than 60 films and TV shows in his 25-year career, including Galaxy QuestandElizabethtown, but the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with Reynolds was special.

Hello again, dear readers, and I hope you all avoided Fantastic Four like the plague this past weekend. On that topic, this is three weeks in a row that I’ve covered a comic book movie here on Trailer Trashin’. Now let’s dive into the new red band trailer for Deadpool.
Premise: In an attempt to cure his terminal cancer, former special forces operative Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is subjected to an experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, disfigured skin, and a dark and twisted sense of humor. Armed with new abilities and a new identity as “Deadpool,” Wilson hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
Note: This is a red band trailer, which means it can only play in theaters with R-rated movies, and therefore is not appropriate for those under the age of seventeen. This trailer contains tons of violence, plenty of blood and gore,...

Kemistry Films, in association with Amerique Film, have completed production on The Brother.
Ryan Bonder’s crime thriller centres on a young man’s attempt to make a clean break from his arms-dealing family ties.
The film stars Anthony Head, Belinda Stewart-Wilson, Noemi Merlant, Tygh Runyan and Jed Rees. Bonder and Ron McLeod co-produce, with Martin Paul-Hus executive producing.
To tie in with its release (set for spring 2014), Bonder, DoP Brian Johnson and composer Marc Bjorknas will create an art installation that will travel with the film, working within themes contained in the story.
Commenting on the installation, Bonder said that “the idea is to create a secondary viewing experience that echoes themes in the film but work on a much less narrative level.”
The Brother, a Canadian production funded by Telefilm Canada, was shot entirely in London. Finance also came from Super Channel who hold...
