Creator of the comic strip character, Casper the Friendly Ghost.
Born on Armistice Day, so was given the middle name Victory.
His Casper the Friendly Ghost inspired a number of knockoffs, like Homer the Happy Ghost, Timmy the Timid Ghost and Spunky the Smiling Spook.
During WWII, he used his artistic talents working in a camouflage unit.
Early in his career he worked for cartooning pioneer, Fleischer Studios, in Florida and wrote "Popeye" and Betty Boop" cartoon shorts.
