On April 27, 2023, former Cincinnati mayor and longtime talk show host Jerry Springer passed away. He was 79. The man led a long and textured life with many acts. As a boy, he fled England as it was being bombed by the Nazis. He came to the United States and began studying law, eventually becoming a Doctor of Jurisprudence. He was a campaign adviser for John F. Kennedy, and practiced law in Cincinnati. In 1971, he sat on the Cincinnati city council, but was infamously kicked off in 1974 for a sex scandal. Springer had been candid about the scandal over the following years, and even laughed at himself a little bit for using a personal check to pay a sex worker.
This didn't stymie his career, and he became the mayor of Cincinnati in 1978. It wouldn't be until 1991 that Springer, having accrued some broadcasting experience, would become a talk show host. "Jerry Springer" began innocently enough,...

When a new season of The Game arrives on Paramount+, it'll do so with much of the original cast intact. The show, which premiered in 2006 on The CW, moved to BET in 2011 before getting canceled in 2015. The streaming era gave way to Paramount+ green-lighting a 10th season that'll serve as a reboot of sorts, but there will be some very noticeable differences. When The Game debuted, it starred Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall. However, the two left the show after season five, only making a brief reappearance in the last season. When the show picks back up on Paramount+ on Nov. 11, Hall will be back, but Mowry won't.
In The Game, Mowry played Melanie Barnett, a medical student who gave up her chance to attend Johns Hopkins to instead follow her football-playing boyfriend, Derwin, played by Hall, to San Diego. Her character was central to the plot, so much so...

The effort is meant to diversify the entertainment industry by creating a pipeline for Black and other underrepresented students into its ranks, according to a statement from the partners. This marks the program’s third year. The window for applications opened today.
The program is divided into two parts: a spring semester wherein students take courses related to the business and a summer semester that sees them working in the field via an internship. Students may focus on film and TV, public relations, business, law, fine arts, theater arts administration, theater tech or the music business. Courses count toward students’ graduation requirements.

It’s third time’s the charm for The Game as the dramedy starring Hosea Chanchez and Wendy Raquel Robinson nears its premiere on Paramount+, after previous runs on the CW and BET.
During Paramount+’s TCA presentation Tuesday, it was revealed that The Game is set to kick off Thursday, November 11. Showrunner and writer Devon Greggory spoke on the panel about bringing back the Girlfriends spinoff, created by Mara Brock Akil, for a modern-day examination of racism, sexism, classism and more.
“We’re going to come deep with some deep issues because 2021 is different than 2008,” he said.
Instead of San Diego, The Game returns to Las Vegas and centers on Black culture through the prism of pro football. The team will tackle a number of social issues and more as they fight for fame, fortune, respect and love—all while trying to maintain their souls as they each play The Game.

Exclusive: Brittany Daniel’s Kelly Pitts is returning to The Game as the Paramount+ reboot adds a slew of cast to the dramedy.

The respective Cheaper by the Dozen and Ray Donovan stars will be joined by Adriyan Rae (Chicago Fire), Vaughn Hebron (The Oval) and Analisa Velez (Sneaky Pete) as new cast in the ten-part series.
Pitts was an integral part of the first three seasons of the show, as wife of Jason Pitts, mother of Brittany Pitts and President of the Sunbeams. She and Jason divorced at the start of season three and in season four it emerges that she’s become a reality TV star with her own show centered around the ex-wives of professional athletes. The character returns in season seven and remarries Jason in season nine, having previously moved to Paris.

Family Reunion creator/executive producer Meg DeLoatch has joined CBS’ The Neighborhood as executive producer and showrunner for the upcoming fourth season. She replaces series creator/executive producer/showrunner Jim Reynolds, who exited the popular CBS/CBS Studios multi-camera comedy series, headlined by Cedric the Entertainer and Max Greenfield, at the end of Season 3.
DeLoatch is already putting her stamp on the show with a new writing team; I hear she has released all but one of The Neighborhood‘s Season 3 writers.
Comedy veteran DeLoatch most recently created and executive produces the Netflix multi-camera sitcom Family Reunion, for which she has received two NAACP Image Awards in 2020 and 2021 and a 2020 WGA Award nomination. DeLoatch assembled one of the first all-Black writers’ rooms to authentically voice the multi-generational family in the Netflix comedy series, whose cast includes Tia Mowry-Hardrict, Anthony Alabi and Emmy winner Loretta Devine. Richard Roundtree guest stars as Grandpa.
