Former Rep. George Santos (R-New York) is reviving his drag persona Kitara Ravache in the latest cash grab.
The openly gay GOP member announced on Monday that he was bringing “Kitara out of the closet after 18 years.” The decision came after Santos raised $0 in donations for his independent campaign for a seat in Congress and withdrew from the race.
After Santos was ousted from Congress in December 2023, the former representative began offering videos on the app Cameo to raise money. Cameo is a platform where people can pay for personalized videos from celebrities and other notable public figures.

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: A Very Sapphic Second Coming
Given the choice to watch Jesus fight a pack of lesbian vampires or an honest-to-God homophobe, I will almost always choose the lesbian vampires. It’s not that I wouldn’t like to see an intolerant bigot get roundhouse-kicked by the Prince of Peace; in fact, that image is particularly tempting ahead of Easter weekend during an election year.
But as an ex-Catholic school girl born of the “Twilight” generation, my unquenchable thirst for horny vampires supersedes my taste for virtue signaling most of the time.

Did you know that there is a Child’s Play-inspired film from Mexico? If you didn’t, you can thank Vinegar Syndrome’s new label Degausser Video for making 1993’s Herencia Diabólica available for the masses to watch. Or at least for the Vs hardcore fanbase, Chucky completists and anyone else who needs something like this in their lives.
Director Alfredo Salazar, known for his writing connection to the 70s Santo film series, also serves as the writer here to bring us a film seemingly inspired from the Child’s Play franchise. While it has been recently labeled as the “Mexican Child’s Play” (there’s a special feature on the disc with that very title), the killer doll concept is where the comparison should start and end. Despite having some seeds planted by that franchise, Salazar delivers a story that blossoms into something unique.

The marketing thus far behind upcoming horror movie Cuckoo, from Neon and director Tilman Singer (Luz), has been refreshingly enigmatic so far, giving only the barest hints of its plot. Roger Ross Williams, the director of Cassandro, opened up about why it was important to portray a positive queer story in the biopic based on a real-life gay amateur wrestler that turned Mexican lucha libre on its head.
“It was really important to tell a positive queer story about someone who is inspirational — someone who inspired me,” Williams said during a panel for the MGM Amazon Studios film at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles.
Williams said he made a short about the wrestling star and when he met the luchador he said, “You’re it! You’re my first scripted film.”

There are more Spider-Man movies than you think, and most of them might take place in the same universe.
Mass audiences may see a certain string of high-profile, well-moneyed, live-action Spider-Man films -- that is, the ones released from 2002 until 2022 -- as the only "official" ones, largely because of how much media exposure they got. In that span, there were five separate notable Spider-Man continuities, but those continuities became a little bit chummy as time passed. Eventually, at least three of those continuities would cross over with one another. These kinds of crossovers, however, are easy for Spider-Man fans to accept, as parallel universes have been a common feature in Spider-Man comics going back many decades.
Also, Spider-Man appeared in so many animated shows and movies over the years that it took no major mental calisthenics to imagine each version existing in its own world. Spider-Man gets rebooted all the time,...

It's easy to forget, what with all the recent hype about it, but as far as movies are concerned the concept of a "multiverse" is anything but new. Gwyneth Paltrow was starring in rom-coms about alternate realities 25 years ago, with the groundbreaking "Sliding Doors," and just a few years later Jet Li tried to kill every other version of himself across alternate realities in the action-thriller "The One."
But a few things have certainly changed. Audiences seem to grasp the concept pretty clearly now — making weird and complex films that would have probably struggled to find mainstream acceptance years ago into massive Oscar-winning crossover hits — and so do motion picture studios. Thanks to multiverses, studios can now create movies and shows where every iteration of their intellectual property can exist simultaneously, making the nostalgic seem new and the fan service seem poignant.

The trailer for FX’s Mayans M.C. season five shows that everyone believes Ez (Jd Pardo) is going to get more club members killed, and that he’s unwilling to listen to anyone (including his brother). Ez’s decision to instate himself as Mayans Mc‘s new president appears to have come at an enormous cost.

It all comes down to this, Mayans M.C. fanatics.
FX on Wednesday unveiled the trailer for Mayans M.C. Season 5, which promises our deadliest season to date.
At the end of Mayans M.C. Season 4, Ez was president of the Santo Padre charter, a move that elicited a lot of blowbacks.
If you watch Mayans M.C. online, you know the development put him on the outs with his brother, Angel.
In the freshly released footage, Angel and his dad are forced to ponder whether Ez is too far gone.
If the trailer proves anything, Ez is making moves, but they may not be the right ones to secure his safety.
Angel is particularly concerned because the simmering tension between the Mayans and the Sons of Anarchy leads to several threats to the lives of his loved ones.
It's a lot to process, and we're barely scratching the surface of the trailer here.

ReviewAt 174 minutes, Thuramukham is an ambitious recounting of an important historical episode. It’s not all smooth sailing, but the ship does make it to the shore. After Kammatipaadam (2016), Thuramukham, meaning ‘harbour’, is another Rajeev Ravi ode to the historical struggles that form the bedrock of a modern city like Kochi. The period drama, written by Gopan Chidambaram, is based on an award-winning play of the same title written by his father, Km Chidambaram. At its heart is the question – what does capitalism do to human beings? The opening sequence is just the beginning of the long answer – people climbing one over another like crabs to find a token that would ensure that they got some work for the day; the inhuman chappa system in the early decades of the 20th century that forced workers to enter a gladiatorial battle every day to feed their families. The stark black and...

Netflix recently put The Woman King on its streaming service after a successful theatrical run, which recently culminated in a number of film awards nominations. For many Netflix viewers, this will be the first time they’ve ever interacted in any way with Western African history. While some experts on the topic have argued that the film oversimplifies historical events, it is important that the popularity of The Woman King allows future films about African history to be made by native filmmakers and those of the wider African diaspora.

HBO has secured another ratings hit with their new video game adaptation “The Last of Us,” and while it’s as exciting and epic as the original video game, it also has the distinction of having a Latino leading man. Chilean actor Pedro Pascal plays the protagonist Joel, who is tasked with trekking across the horrific landscape to help find a cure with young Ellie in tow.
With a Latino actor leading such a massive hit for the horror genre, it got us thinking about other great Latino Horror Heroes from pop culture. Here are five of our favorites.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 goes with Thanksgiving Day like turkey goes with gravy. The show made its debut on Thanksgiving back in 1988 and there have been many, many Turkey Day marathons throughout the years, no matter if the show itself was active or not. Usually, MST3K Turkey Day meant getting to see six beloved episodes in a row over the course of the day. If you were lucky, there would be news about the next time we would see the show make a comeback.
Turkey Day 2022 is a different feathered beast. Right now, MST3K is in the tail end of its thirteenth season. Since March of this year, new episodes have been debuting on the Gizmoplex, a streaming service dedicated to riff-based entertainment. Twelve of the thirteen episodes have aired so far (one of which is in 3D!), while we’re just weeks away from Christmas Dragon.

"He's not the kind of man who runs away." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for an Italian film titled My Name is Vendetta, arriving for streaming at the end of November. This pretty much looks like Italy's version of Taken or John Wick, about a father who is apparently a former enforcer and never told his family – until they're killed. A fast-paced action, survival and revenge film set in Northern Italy in a quiet town in Südtirol. When enemies from the past kill his wife and brother-in-law, the mafia enforcer and his daughter flee to Milan to plot their revenge. Starring Alessandro Gassmann and Ginevra Francesconi as the father and daughter, Santo and Sofia, who train together to take down the people who came after them. The cast also includes Remo Girone, Gabriele Falsetta, Alessio Praticò, Marcello Mazzarella, & Sinja Dieks. This looks like a very generic revenge story, but...

Say what you will about Rob Zombie, but you can’t pretend he isn’t consistent. As a musician, a stage performer and a filmmaker, Zombie has made a lucrative and (mostly) artistically intriguing career out of his boundless affection for schlock. Whether it’s ultraviolent horror movies, low-budget luchador adventures or goofy monster sitcoms, his love of B-movie media always jumps out at the audience. And at his best, he convinces us to love his weird obsessions too. At his worst… well, we’ll get to that.
Honorable Mention: “Grindhouse”: “Werewolf Women of the SS” (2007)
Rob Zombie’s fake trailer from the 2007 double-feature “Grindhouse” stands out, but not necessarily in a good way. His teaser is a rather obvious riff on exploitation sleaze like “Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS,” but making her an actual wolf, with tasteless Nazi imagery and an also tasteless cameo from Nicolas Cage as the racist caricature Fu Manchu.

The white men speak in subtitled Portuguese, while the proud members of various African tribes express themselves in English in “The Woman King,” a clear sign of where our allegiances belong in director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s sweeping early-19th-century war movie. It’s an Africa-set epic of the kind not seen since “Zulu,” only this time, the task of defending the Mother Continent rightfully falls to the locals, not their enslavers. This side of the story is long overdue, recasting Western civilization’s greatest shame as the atrocity that it was while celebrating those who opposed it. Modern as that sounds, the movie embraces the codes of mid-20th-century costume dramas: It’s stirring but slightly stodgy, designed to stand the test of time.
In her fiercest role yet, Viola Davis leads an army of elite women warriors, called the Agojie, who protect the kingdom of Dahomey from outside threat.

Indian films about the sexual desires of women are not exactly the norm, at least among the films we get to see in the West. However, this is exactly what Devashish Makhija shows in “Cheepatakadumpa”, his self-produced short that came from a script that was improvised over many weeks of rehearsals with the film’s actors (all hailing from India’s National School of Drama), drawing from their personal challenges of growing up as women in a patriarchal small town in India.

The 24-year-old artist and multi-instrumentalist, whose real name is Omar Banos, just got back from Yosemite National Park, where he spent a few days climbing, a new hobby he can’t get enough of. His hands are ripped and full of callouses, he’s kind of sore, and I’ve caught him during a busy week just before he drops his second album, Fantasy Gateway. But he’s also the healthiest he’s ever been.
