Today, at its inaugural upfront presentation, Prime Video announced that it had ordered a Tomb Raider series with Phoebe Waller-Bridge as writer and executive producer. The series is based on the iconic Tomb Raider video game franchise, which follows the adventures of world-famous archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft.
The project comes as part of a deal between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, originating through dj2’s first-look deal with the studio, to develop additional Tomb Raider stories into series and films. Tomb Raider will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games have previously announced a collaboration to develop and publish a new multiplatform Tomb Raider game. The as-yet-untitled game is a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure that is an all-new next chapter to Lara Croft’s legendary explorations in the Tomb Raider franchise.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s adaptation of video game Tomb Raider is scaling the walls at Amazon.
The streamer has handed the project a series order.
The news was revealed by Head of Amazon & MGM Studios Jen Salke at the company’s Upfront event in New York, who called it an “epic” and “globe-trotting” series.
“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Exclusive: Sarah Greene is “excited” to be at the center of a high-stakes “love triangle” involving James McArdle and Emun Elliott in Sexy Beast, the Paramount+ prequel to director Jonathan Glazer’s 2000 classic.
Greene tells me she is a great admirer of Amanda Redman’s sultry performance as former adult actress Deedee Harrison – the role that holds a place in the annals of gangster movie history – and the part that the Cork-born Normal People star takes on in the Sexy Beast drama that premieres on Paramount+ this Thursday, January 25.
Greene watched the movie “over and over again and just studied her through line. And she’s very still, she doesn’t say a whole lot.”
We chat just as the actress is in the midst of shooting the second season of Bad Sisters with her Garvey siblings played by Sharon Horgan, Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle and Eve Hewson. “We were all like,...

The story of the three German women, set during and after World War II, explores how each deals with the fallout of her personal life and the devastation around her differently. Breaking through a long-standing color barrier, "Precious" director Lee Daniels is the first African-American to be nominated for the Directors Guild of America's best director award.
Kathryn Bigelow, director of "The Hurt Locker," also contributed to the diverse array of nominees announced Thursday, becoming just the seventh woman to be singled out in the DGA's feature film category.
The two will contend for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film with James Cameron, nominated for "Avatar"; Jason Reitman, who booked a ticket to the awards ceremony with"Up in the Air"; and Quentin Tarantino, who made the cut with "Inglourious Basterds."
The winner will be announced at the 62nd annual DGA Awards on Jan. 30 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City.
"Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push" by Sapphire" has been something of a Cinderella story ever since it first debuted at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
