The disc of the year has finally arrived and it’s 1000 worth the wait. William Cameron Menzies’ flight into schoolboy paranoia now really looks like it ought to hang in the Louvre; the entire show is inspired Modern Art. When Martians conduct a brain-snatching takeover of Middle America little David MacLean must save the day, with an assist from an astronomer buddy and a sexy city nurse. The review is mostly concerned with how the new Ignite release looks and sounds. The rejuvenation of this fantasy masterpiece will turn fans of the 1950s sci-fi boom back into delighted ‘Gee Whiz’ kids.

This ’50s drug epic is not about hopheads on dope, but working folk frying their brains on amphetamines. Peter Graves’ undercover narc seeks the source of deadly pills that are wreaking havoc in the trucking industry; the film’s wild card is an unhinged Chuck Connors — yes, that Chuck Connors — as a deranged pill-popper running amuck on the highways. Seat belts recommended.

Robot roll call! This also-ran robotic fantasy from the 1950s is precisely the kind of movie one would expect from Republic, a two-fisted anti-Commie tract for juveniles. The studio comes up with an impressive robo-hero, but short-changes us when it come time for action thrills. Still, as pointed out in Richard Harland Smith’s new commentary, Tobor filled the the kiddie hunger for sci-fi matinees, at least until Robby the Robot came along.

Artist Robert Shane has created an awesome set of Star Wars art featuring a trilogy of unseen scenes from the film. According to the artist,
"Most of my artwork I post here is done in 'portrait' style because I'd really like to draw a Star Wars comic cover one day! But I thought I should try to demonstrate that I can also create 'landscape' scenes too - so I've put together a series of three pictures depicting scenes that 'sort of' happened in the original Star Wars trilogy."
He gives a little commentary on each of the pieces and about the above image he says,
"We all know that Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru were executed in Episode 4 (A New Hope) - and the grizzly revolution was pivotal in convincing Luke to begin his heroic journey. We didn't see actual the event - and we didn't need to (especially in...

Here's a couple of very fun Star Wars and Star Trek mashup illustrations created by Robert Shane. Captain Kirk and Princess Leia actually kind of works. I know J.J Abrams is working on both of these film properties now, but fan art like this is the only time we'll ever see any kind of crossover between these two worlds. I wonder if he'll sneak in some little Easter eggs though.

We've featured several pieces of Star Wars art from Robert Shane a.k.a. rhymesyndicate in the past. His Star Wars vs. Aliens illustrations are among some of my favorite. Thanks to /Film I saw that he created a new amazingly badass piece of geek art featuring a group of Stormtroopers being brutally attacked by a horde of Aliens!
Here's a note from the artist,
This is a 'companion' piece to my drawing of Darth Vader meeting an Alien queen. Perhaps this battle is what happened on board Vader's Star Destroyer immediately before he turned up to restore order!?
I wanted this piece to look claustrophobic and chaotic - to give a sense of the mayhem that's taking place - without resorting to drawing blood and guts everywhere! So I only depicted the characters in the picture... no background... no scenery.
I didn't want this to be one of those...

Robert Shane is a UK-based artist probably best known for his awesome Star Wars mash-up paintings. While I havent featured Shane’s work on /Film in the past, I’ve admired his work from afar on his DeviantArt page. Here's some flat out outstanding fan art from artist Robert Shane a.k.a. rhymesyndicate. The first three pieces feature the Sith getting tangled up with Aliens and Muppets. If Darth Vader and Darth Maul showed up in Prometheus, that would have been insane! In a good and bad way. I've also included a couple more pieces of just straight up badass Star Wars art as well.

Back in the 80's and early 90's 8-Bit was the standard for video game quality images. At the time it was considered advanced, and quite the achievement, but technology soon advanced and the low resolution look was discarded as an embarrassment. At some point in the last few years it has become a cool retro look that artists have explored ad nauseum. One such artist is Pablo Cialoni, who has created, "Pixel Superheroes: Heroic Bits." Artist Robert Shane "Darth Maul vs. Aliens" Artist Benjamin DeGuzman "NBC's Community Mashed-Up with Street Fighter" By the way NBC's Community is currently on hiatus and at some point will come back on the air. When it does it would be a huge help to one of the best shows on television if you would encourage as many people as you can to tune in. If you haven't seen the show than make an effort,...

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.
