This article contains light spoilers for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
We’ve got one! And by “one” I mean a female Ghostbuster that even jerks might like! Maybe!
The last time we got women as Ghostbusters, sexist buffoons making bad-faith arguments about the apparent sanctity of boy Ghostbusters drowned out all discussion of the 2016 reboot Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, preventing both those who enjoyed the movie and those who disliked it for actual sane reasons from sharing their viewpoints.
That extreme response drove Sony to return to the franchise’s roots for its follow-up Ghostbusters: Afterlife, directed by Jason Reitman, son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. Although the movie took place in Oklahoma and took a decidedly dour, respectful tone, it focused on connections to the first team. It starred Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace, and Finn Wolfhard as the daughter and grandchildren of Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis). Together with their friends and their teacher Mr.

It took a lot of writerly sci-fi calisthenics to get there, but the events of the 2008 "Futurama" movie "Bender's Game" take place largely in a Gygaxian world of wizards, knights, centaurs, and dragons. There are no hobbits, but hobos and rabbits are doing what they can to redress their absence.
It seems that the alcoholic robot Bender (John Dimaggio) was built without an imagination, a grievous deficiency indeed when he is asked to play "Dungeons & Dragons" with his 12-year-old friends Cubert (Kath Soucie) and Dwight (Bumper Robinson). Bender eventually comes around and invents a character named Titanius Anglesmith, Fancyman of Cornwood.
Sadly, playing D&d forces Bender's newly discovered imagination into overdrive, and he soon believes that he is Titanius Anglesmith. Like Don Quixote before him, Bender now sees himself as a brave knight errant, tilting at the high-tech windmills of the 31st century. He will eventually be committed...

1992's "X-Men" cartoon was the first time Marvel's Merry Mutants got a series all of their own, but was it the first time they appeared in animation? Not quite.
The team were guest stars on the early 1980s series "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends", as was their nemesis Magneto. A few years down the line, Marvel Productions decided to produce an "X-Men" cartoon themselves.
The resulting pilot was "Pryde of the X-Men". "Pryde" boasted animation from Japanese studio Toei ("Dragon Ball Z"), and so looked noticeably more detailed and dynamic than previous Marvel cartoons. Where it did overlap with those older cartoons was the voice cast: the late John Stephenson as Professor X, Michael Bell as Cyclops, Neil Ross as Nightcrawler, Dan Gilvezan as Colossus, and a young Kath Soucie as Kitty.

To clarify right away, James Bond, Jr. (Corey Burton), the title character from a barely-remembered 007-adjacent 1991 animated series, is not the son of James Bond. More confusingly, James Bond, Jr. is actually the nephew of James Bond. "He learned the game from his uncle James," the theme song makes very clear. This means that James Bond did indeed have a brother, but also that his brother was named James as well ...?
As of this writing, "James Bond Jr." is the only TV adaptation to date of Ian Fleming's ultra-popular James Bond book series. It came at a fascinating time in the history of the James Bond franchise, as Timothy Dalton's two-film run had come to an end, and a messy rights dispute behind the scenes kept Bond off the big screen for years. It also likely didn't help that the Berlin Wall fell in November of 1989, calling...

In the 31st-century setting of "Futurama," the holiday season has been altered somewhat. Christmas is now called Xmas, and traditional Christmas fir frees have been replaced by palm trees. Gift-giving is still a tradition and, as of the show's most recent episode, "I Know What You Did Next Xmas," so is the cooking of a holiday turducken. People still wait for Santa to arrive, but not for the usual reasons. It seems that in 2801, humanity decided to build an efficient, gift-distributing Santa Claus robot, capable of delivering many thousands of megagifts every second. Sadly, the Santa robot went rogue, punishing all children it deemed naughty ... to death. And, given Santa's ultra-stringent standards, he kills just about anyone on sight. Every Xmas, the citizens of the 31st century crouch in their armored homes, hidden from the evil Santa's missiles and explosives. Think Christmas via "The Purge."

Frequent collaborators and co-directors Martin Scorsese and David Tedeschi’s upcoming documentary, “Personality Crisis: One Night Only,” will premiere April 14 at 8 p.m. on Showtime.
“Personality Crisis: One Night Only” has also released a trailer providing audiences a peek into the lives of Johansen, the one-time New York Dolls lead singer who later performed as Buster Poindexter. Focusing on Johansen, his legacy and his special January 2020 performance, the film documents the punk legend as he “regales the audience with stories and music illuminating the art and cultural evolution of New York City,” according to the film’s logline.
Scorsese explained what drew him to this project: “I’ve known David Johansen for decades, and his music has been a touchstone ever since I listened to the Dolls when I was making ‘Mean Streets’… Then and now, David’s music captures the energy and excitement of New York City. I often see him perform,...

When the first "Star Wars" trilogy came out, there weren't many women in lead roles. Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) was a role model for so many young women at the time, but the rest of the heroes were men. In "Return of the Jedi," however, we saw another woman in a leadership role. Mon Mothma (Caroline Blakiston) was a former senator and a Rebellion leader. She wasn't on screen much, but she did say the pivotal line, "Many Bothans died to bring us this information." In one short sentence, this woman, this leader, reminded the Rebel fighters that their lives were on the line, not just those on missions, but the lives of the entire galaxy.
I had a bigger reaction than one might expect when I first saw her on the big screen as a kid. She was a revelation for a little girl in footie pajamas who continually...

"C'mon guys, the Tune Squad doesn't give up!" Warner Bros has debuted the second official trailer for the long-awaited sequel Space Jam 2, also known as Space Jam: A New Legacy, directed by Malcolm D. Lee. We just featured a fun mock "30 for 30" promo this week, and the first trailer dropped back in April. In this sequel, NBA superstar LeBron James teams up with Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes crew to play basketball in order to escape a virtual space run by a rogue algorithm that won't let him and his family out unless he plays a game. This also stars Don Cheadle, Cedric Joe, Khris Davis, Sonequa Martin-Green, plus lots of real NBA stars; along with voice-actors Eric Bauza, Jeff Bergman, Kath Soucie, Bob Bergen, and Gabriel Iglesias making up the animated cast. This actually looks like the right amount of absurd fun with ...

"Lebron teams up with Bugs Bunny? Sounds like a fairy tale. Sometimes... fairy tales get dark." Warner Bros has debuted a fun mock "ESPN 30 for 30" short film segment to promote Space Jam 2, also known as Space Jam: A New Legacy, directed by Malcolm D. Lee. We've already got one a trailer a few months ago, but this is a really creative and amusing way to promote this wacky sequel to sports audiences. I'm glad that everyone seems to be in on the joke as every interview in this is hilarious. The opening credits of Paramount+’s reboot of beloved Nickelodeon cartoon Rugrats are mighty familiar.
Composer Mark Mothersbaugh’s synthesizer chimes away as the action follows the titular infants having a particularly lively play day in a suburban living room. Tommy Pickles does a handstand. Phil and Lil DeVille chase each other around. Angelica gets covered in dust from a vacuum.
While at first glance the new intro seems identical to the iconic original, there are some key updates. Grandpa Lou is not asleep on a LA-z-Boy, but up and alert, practicing yoga. Chuckie Finster is riding around on a Roomba-style wireless cleaner rather than a traditional vacuum. And of course, the whole thing is animated in a much more modern CGI-style.
Rugrats approach to updating its intro is the same approach it takes in updating…everything else. Paramount+’s version of the show, described as both a “reboot” and...

Warner Bros. and HBO Max have released the first trailer for “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” the sequel to the blockbuster 1996 comedy that featured NBA superstars alongside Looney Tunes characters. Stepping into Michael Jordan’s kicks this time around is LeBron James, who spearheaded the title’s return under his production company SpringHill Entertainment. Though he played a comedic role in Amy Schumer’s “Trainwreck,” “Space Jam 2” marks his first foray into leading man territory, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself in the live-action/animated sports comedy.

They may be young, but the young animated characters who make up the Rugrats are not to be dismissed.
Nickelodeon stopped making original episodes of the iconic series in 2004, but will re-launch the program in 2021, reuniting many of the actors who gave the toddlers at the center of the series voice and adding a wide array of new actors to many of their parents. “It’s an enormous responsibility. “Space Jam: A New Legacy” promises to bring a contemporary twist to the beloved Warner Bros. live-action/animated hybrid original — and it’s not just because it centers on basketball star LeBron James in place of Michael Jordan this time around. One element that’s getting what the filmmakers see as a necessary refresh is the design of the character Lola Bunny, voiced by Kath Soucie, who plays for the Tune Squad and with whom Bugs Bunny falls in love.

Nickelodeon cartoons “Dora the Explorer” and “The Fairly OddParents” are getting live-action series on Paramount+.
“Dora” will target kids aged 6-11 and their families, Nick said. The original “Dora the Explorer” cartoon launched in 2000 and wrapped in 2019, the same year the live-action “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” was released theatrically. That film, which starred Isabela Merced in the titular role, made about $120 million worldwide on a budget of $49 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
“The Fairly OddParents,” meanwhile, is one of Nick’s longest-running and most successful animated series.
The announcement was among the deluge of news shared on Wednesday during ViacomCBS’ streaming investor day. Brian Robbins, the president of kids and family entertainment at ViacomCBS, had the honor of sharing this one.
In addition to these live-action shows, Nickelodeon properties “Rugrats” and “Avatar: The Last Airbender” are also getting new versions for Paramount+, which launches on March...
