When the Russo brothers were asked about the sub-par run of recent entrants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they had a categorical response – it was fatigue. For the past few years, the word superhero fatigue has been the buzz word. But the Russo brothers believe it to be something more, a fatigue with movies across the board. With the advent and multiplication of content, they believe that movies are beginning to lose their charm. But The Garfield Movie might have shown them the mirror.

Coralie Fargeat made a splash with her debut Revenge. But she was only standing in a puddle, endearing niche corners of the global cinephile community to her cinematic bloodlust for sexually violent men and gore-horror filmmaking. With her second, The Substance, she’s fully submerged in the ocean and making waves.
Meet Elisabeth Sparkle, a Demi Moore-esque A-lister (played by Demi Moore) whose stardom has long since faded, leaving her, to great displeasure, in the instructor’s seat of a glam morning-fitness class called “Sparkle Your Life.” We learn about her iconic career through a cleverly designed timelapse that opens the film––a bird’s-eye view of her Hollywood Walk of Fame star being minted, premiered, adorned, celebrated, surrounded, stood on, passed, ignored, and eventually forgotten.

We love rock & roll, and so do most moviegoers, which is why cinema is filled with heroes who get together with their friends to pound out some numbers. Whether they do it for fame and fortune or to just hang out with buddies, pop bands are inherently cinematic, tying together moving images and sound to create something spectacular. That’s particularly true of fictional groups, who often draw from real-world inspirations and transform them into moving protagonists or hated villains.
This list covers ten of the best fictional bands in cinema history. The key word here is “bands,” as we ignore solo acts, even from really good films. So Mac Sledge from Tender Mercies won’t show up, nor will Noni Jean from Beyond the Lights. Also, we’re looking at fictional groups here, so the Ramones from Rock & Roll High School don’t show up, nor do Talking Heads,...

In recognition of the release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie this week, we thought we would take a look at the ten highest-grossing movies based on toys that have been made (so far at least). This list was constructed using domestic box office totals that have also been adjusted for inflation (according to data and synopses procured from Box Office Mojo and The Numbers). So, enough yapping, here are the ten highest-grossing films based on toys.
10. My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) Original Domestic Gross: $21,885,107
Adjusted Domestic Gross: $25,496,025
A dark force threatens Ponyville, and the Mane 6—Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity— embark on an unforgettable journey beyond Equestria where they meet new friends and exciting challenges on a quest to use the magic of friendship to save their home.
9. Mars Attacks! (1996) Original Domestic Gross: $37,771,017
Adjusted Domestic Gross: $78,056,645
Earth is invaded by Martians with unbeatable weapons and a cruel sense of humor.

While one door has been closed for executive producer Elan Gale with the cancellation of “FBoy Island” at HBO Max, another door has been opened with Hulu’s “Back in the Groove.” His latest reality dating series follows three mature women – each in their 40s – as they jump back into the world of dating and test the waters with a pool of younger men in their 20s and 30s.
Based on the timeless ’90s film “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” Taye Diggs lends his assistance as a steward for the ladies as they search for their potential companions. Diggs, who once portrayed the sexy 20-something love interest opposite Angela Basset in the original film, appears in the first episode as a host and holds an executive producer credit.

Chicago, Il — Federal prosecutors rested their case in the R. Kelly child pornography trial at Dirksen U.S. courthouse on Tuesday following testimony from its final accuser, who testified the disgraced singer engaged her in sexual acts while she was a minor.

“A shoulder we all stood on,” tweeted actor Colman Domingo today.
A prolific character actor on screen and stage, and a pioneer in the representation of Black actors on the Off Broadway and Broadway scenes, Alice is perhaps most widely known to TV audiences for her two-season run as a main character on NBC’s Cosby Show spin-off A Different World, in which she played dorm director Leticia “Lettie” Bostic. In 2003, she featured prominently in The Matrix Revolutions, portraying The Oracle, who imparts words of wisdom to Keanu Reeves’ Neo.

Jay-z, Lady Gaga and Erykah Badu — all of whom worked with R. Kelly over the years — declined to be interviewed for “Surviving R. Kelly,” the Lifetime series documenting the sexual abuse allegations against the singer, executive producer Dream Hampton told the Detroit Free Press. In a separate interview, with Shadow and Act, she said Dave Chappelle, Mary J. Blige, Questlove and Lil’ Kim also declined to speak.
“Most people just don’t want to touch it,” Hampton said. “[Questlove] was like, ‘I would do anything for you but I can’t do this.’ It’s not because they support him, it’s because it’s so messy and muddy. It’s that turning away that has allowed this to go on.”
In a tweet that he later deleted, Questlove responded, “I always thought Kels was trash. My reason for declining the RKelly docu that I support 10000000 percent is I didn’t...

Maybe I’m just looking at the glass of sauvignon blanc as half-empty, but this week’s Glee didn’t quite leave me with my usual post-episode buzz. Don’t get me wrong, there were some genius one-liners (“Unfortunately, Kitty Dukakis could not be here because of disinterest”), and I’m not ashamed to say I laughed out loud when the acrid smell of teen vomit pervaded New Directions’ big set piece. But plot-wise, “Blame It on the Alcohol” was the equivalent of flat champagne, and its musical numbers felt a little watered-down, too. Let’s dive headlong into our...
