- Imogen Stubbs was born in Rothbury, Northumberland, lived briefly in Portsmouth, where her father was a naval officer, and then moved with her parents to London, where they inhabited an elderly river barge on the Thames. Educated at St. Paul's and then Westminster, where she was one of the "token girls" in the Sixth Form, she went on to Oxford, where she gained a First Class degree. - She was bottom at school until she found teachers who inspired her at St Pauls where she won a scholarship to Exeter College, Oxford where she fell in love with acting causing her to abandon plans to be a physiotherapist. From Oxford she went to RADA from where she graduated in 1984 and joined the Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich then two years later she moved to The Royal Shakespeare Company. She made her first film, Nanou and fell in love with her co star, French actor Jean-Philippe Ecoffey. The relationship ended in1989 and later that year she was playing Desdemona in a Royal Shakespeare production of Othello when she met Trevor Nunn, 20 years her senior and who was married to actress Sharon Lee Hill and had 2 daughters with her along with a son by his first wife, actress Janet Suzman. About a year later Imogen gave birth to a daughter, Ellie and married Trevor in September 1994 and 2 years later gave birth to a son, Jesse.
