Despite a union with SAG-AFTRA and increasing attention paid to the very best voice acting performances in the industry, it’s still easy to take those performances for granted. It’s part and parcel of a medium that still struggles with being recognized as an art form, and one where those union protections don’t yet protect the most vulnerable performers.
Voice acting is often the key to whether a story-heavy game sinks or swims. Granted, it is possible for a game’s voice acting to become iconic, even with a crappy dub. The original Resident Evil is still a meme for B-movie lines like the Jill Sandwich, and Shenmue’s English voice acting, respectfully, flat-out sucks. But a truly remarkable job, like the whole of Final Fantasy Xii or Nolan North’s various appearances as Nathan Drake, reminds us why it’s important to remember our roots, appreciate the creators,...

Fire Emblem fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the recently-released Fire Emblem Engage. Not only is it the latest entry into the famous strategy franchise, but it’s really a return to form for Fire Emblem after the series experimented with a few different ideas. It also features a massive roster of characters voiced by some pretty notable actors.
Seriously, Engage’s voice cast is impressive. It’s one thing to boast a roster of named and notable characters quite so large, and it’s quite another to give most of those characters their own name and voice. While you may only recognize the names of a few Fire Emblem voice actors on paper, you’ll almost certainly recognize many of them the moment you hear them in-game.
So whether you can’t quite place why that name is so familiar, or you just want a little...

Ash Ketchum has finally caught them all, becoming an official Pokémon World Champion and setting the stage for his exit from the popular animated series after 25 years, and the news is hitting people hard. Veronica Taylor, who voiced Ash and his mother Delia for the first eight seasons of the English-dubbed Japanese anime, recently spoke to TMZ about the end of the iconic character. “I had no idea,” she said of Ash’s exit but noted, “We all should have seen it coming.” “He won the world championship, and it was so exciting; everyone’s saying, ‘Oh, what’s he going to do next?’ And I was kind of hit hard by it. I don’t think I’d really considered his journey ending,” she continued. Taylor went on to say that Pokémon has “taught us so many lessons,” one of the main ones being “letting go.” She added, “You know,...

It’s the anime equivalent of LeBron winning his first ring or Scorsese winning his first Oscar. After 22 years on the air, the long-running “Pokemon” anime series gave fans what they’ve always wanted, as Ash Ketchum finally won his first Pokemon league title Sunday.
For decades, Ash has traveled through the various regions of the world of Pokemon with his buddy Pikachu, meeting friends and foiling the plots of Team Rocket. Along the way, he has caught dozens of Pokemon and competed in six regional league tournaments, but every time he has fallen short. He did bring a trophy back to his home in Pallet Town way back in 1999 by winning all four badges in the Orange League, but that league did not have a full tournament.

While today might just be another lazy Sunday for you, it’s been a landmark milestone for Pokémon fans from all over. Some of us here at We Got This Covered don’t keep up to date with the long-running animated series (though we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Sword and Shield), but we totally get why the fanbase is so ecstatic right now.
In case you haven’t heard the news, here’s a bit of a recap. The latest episode of Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon – Ultra Legends (which aired in Japanese over the weekend) saw protagonist Ash Ketchum emerging as the top trainer in the Alola League championship. If you’ve been following the show for any amount of time, there’s a good chance you’ll understand the significance of this momentous occasion, as since the series debuted back in the late ’90s, Ash has...

Who are Streamers Connected? The best way to describe them is they are an international community of streamers. It’s a community that has grown very quickly as it was founded in August 2017 and what they have achieved in over a year is impressive to say the least. Since their launch, their Discord now has over 9000 members. They’ve taken the UK by storm and have drawn a few famous names to their brand. For instance, Veronica Taylor took part in a stream of Mario Kart during the first day of Comic Con.
When Comic Con was in London this year, I spent a lot of time with two people who are very much associated with Streamers Connected. One of them is Twitch streamer Letitia Lemon who has done very well in her short time streaming a variety of PS4 games. Another is Chris Bob who spends a lot of...

The biggest nerd event comes back to London again for the last time this year. There is a lot to love about Comic Con and I mentioned a lot of those reasons in my first report on Comic Con in May which was my first time at Comic Con. I jumped at the chance to go again and I think I enjoyed it even more the second time around.
There are a few articles coming up about what I did and who I was talking to over that weekend so I think I’ll trying and summarize on what I did over those three days. Starting with day one, I did go to a press conference or two but it seems like that it was the quietest day of the three. I spent a lot of time at the Streamers Connected stage during that afternoon talking to growing Twitch streamers...

Did you still have that problem where you think the majority of the ’90s happened, like, 10 years ago? Us, too. Isn’t it depressing when you suddenly remember that the year 1990, in fact, occurred an unbelievable 23 years ago? Does that even make sense? Well, according to “logic”, yes, it makes perfect sense, but for a whole bunch of us, there’s no quite shaking the strange feeling that somebody is working out all this year stuff entirely wrong.
It seems, then, that our perceptions of when certain things came into the world have probably be distorted through a bizarre combination of nostalgia and the fact that life goes way, way faster when you get older. Can you believe, for example, that the following 15 things are 15 freakin’ years old? Seriously: we wouldn’t lie to you when it comes to serious subjects like this. How old do you feel now? Is it really old?...

Turtles Forever Directed by: Roy Burdine and Lloyd Goldfine Written by: Robert David, Matthew Drdek, Lloyd Goldfine Starring: Michael Sinterniklaas, Wayne Grayson, Sam Riegel, Gregory Abbey, Darren Dunstan, Marc Thompson, Veronica Taylor The times they are a changin'. Nowadays, even Michaelangelo is irritated by the grinning, pun-happy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of old. Sure, it may be a slap in the face to fans of the older series they grew up with, but Turtles Forever is just fan service topped with fan service with a side order of fan service. The concept is nothing short of brilliant, having multiple generations of the Ninja Turtles meet in their own dimensions via portals. The movie features three groups of Turtles: the recent '03 series, the original '90s cartoon, and the comic book source material. It's how these three intertwine that makes this work. What used to make total sense back in...
