The Maestro was one of the creepiest villains Doctor Who has ever had.
On paper, they seem like a ridiculous creature. They went to 1963 to steal all the music from the world, starting with the most influential rock band in history.
Doctor Who Season 2 Episode 2 took the Doctor and Ruby to Abbey Road to save the world by inspiring the Beatles while defeating an evil spirit, and it was as scary as it was fun.
The Abbey Road Sequences Lived Up To The Hype
When the Doctor Who Season 1 trailer came out, this was the story I was most excited about, and I was not disappointed one bit.
We didn't get to hear any real Beatles music—that would have probably cost a fortune in licensing fees—so instead, we got that musical number about there always being a twist at the end of the story and some weird pseudo-songs courtesy of the Maestro.

This Doctor Who article contains spoilers.
From 1963 to 2020, the title character of Doctor Who belonged to an alien species from Gallifrey, generally known as Time Lords. Throughout the wibbly-wobbly Who canon, not all Gallifreyans are Time Lords, but all Time Lords were certainly two-hearted Gallifreyans, and the Doctor was always both. That is, until they weren’t. In the 2020 Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) episode “The Timeless Children,” it was revealed that the Doctor was actually the first Time Lord, and that the ability to regenerate was harvested from them, and then integrated into Time Lord culture. Basically, the Doctor was still a Time Lord, but the actual background of the originating species they hailed from, became a retroactive mystery.
And now, in the 2024 Doctor Who “season one” the newly bi-generated Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) is mentioning this new canon a lot. Here’s how Doctor Who is honoring this controversial continuity change,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the first two episodes of Doctor Who Season 1, “Space Babies” and “The Devil’s Chord.”] Really, it only took a couple minutes in his first appearance in the last of the Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials to know that Ncuti Gatwa is the right one to take over the role of the Doctor. He embodies the fun and joy of the character—and, as we see as the new season gets underway, some of the weight and darkness as well. Gatwa’s Doctor’s introduction came with a twist, with David Tennant’s Fourteenth not regenerating but bigenerating, splitting in two. It was fun, and compared to Fourteen (who was clearly feeling a lot), the Fifteenth Doctor seemed to be doing a lot better. But now, in “The Devil’s Chord,” the Doctor tells the newest companion, Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), that defeating the Toymaker, which he did via bigeneration, took everything and ...

Disney and the BBC really don’t want any spoilers revealed for today’s debut of the latest season of Doctor Who. Fair enough, but I’m here to tell you that you will hear some of the worst music ever in these opening episodes of Ncuti Gatwa’s hopefully long run as the famed Time Lord.
Crossing timelines and absent granddaughters aside, that’s the point.
Since Rwandan-born Gatwa’s debut in December last year, his Doctor Who has already flipped a lot of scripts on what the Tardis travelling Doctor is and should be. Yes, the Fifteenth Doctor is the first Black and the first openly Queer incarnation of the Gallifreyan since the iconic British series debuted in 1963, as well as the first person not born in the UK to play the Time Lord Both those representations are long overdue and wonderful, but the real thing about this...

The Doctor Who press juggernaut materialized in New York last week, bringing with it leading stars Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson. The iconic, long-running BBC science-fiction show about a time-and-space traveling alien debuts its latest season on streamer Disney+ on Friday.
Gatwa, who grew up in Scotland after leaving Rwanda as a child, is already known for playing Eric Effiong in Sex Education (Netflix) and as one of the many Kens in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie (2023). Lesser known internationally is Gibson, who turns 20 in June. In the U.K., the actor made a name for herself in the television soap opera, Coronation Street (which is even longer-running than Doctor Who).
The Hollywood Reporter caught up with the pair to discuss the opening two episodes of their first season (which release at 7 p.m. on the streamer). There’s no spoilers below, but do come back Saturday for the second part of this interview,...

We all love mysteries because they are always intriguing puzzles that force you to use all your wits and deductive reasoning along with the characters to solve gruesome crimes. However, let's be honest, there are an infinite number of movies and TV shows with similar premise, which makes the mystery genre seem rather unremarkable.
However, when the crime story focuses not so much on the crime itself, but on its consequences, human relationships, the psyche of the criminal, the victim and their loved ones, we get a deep psychological drama. Add quality cinematography and a talented cast to the formula and you have a surefire hit.
Such was the case with Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman. Yes, you can find criticism of the show here and there, but the vast majority of professional critics and audiences remained positive, and now the show boasts an impressive 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Guinness World Records once listed the BBC’s Doctor Who as the “most successful Science Fiction television series in the world,” and, in November 2023, the show turned an impressive 60 years old. Doctor Who originally ran from 1963 to 1989 and was relaunched in 2005.
Despite its grand age, it’s not demonstrating any signs of slowing down.
Former showrunner Russell T Davies (fresh from his success with It’s A Sin) returns to the franchise following last year’s Christmas specials with fan-favorites David Tennant and Catherine Tate. With the 14th season — which, for the first time ever, will premiere simultaneously worldwide thanks to Disney+ (on Friday at 7 p.m.) — Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education and Barbie) officially becomes the newest incarnation of the errant Time Lord.
But, what about those who have already played the role of The Doctor (a.k.a. Doctor Who) over the past seven decades? Below is your 101 to all of the lead actors.

It’s my obligatory caveat that I am not a Doctor Who “fan,” per se. I’m much more Who-curious.
While I was traumatized by Tom Baker’s Doctor in childhood, I’ve happily sampled the introduction of each new Doctor since the Christopher Eccleston reboot in 2005. After two or three episodes, I tend to tune out, checking back in at key or particularly acclaimed installments. For those keeping score, David Tennant’s Doctor was the one I watched the most of in total, though I stuck with Matt Smith for the longest in the beginning (Karen Gillan’s Amy Pond was responsible for a lot of that). Peter Capaldi, probably the Doctor I was most excited for based on previous credits, did the least for me.
Draw your own conclusions.

Doctor Who is one of the most iconic and storied sci-fi franchises ever. However, while the long-running British TV series commands a legion of loyal Whovians across the globe, its low budget has held the show back from reaching the same heights as, say, Star Trek and Star Wars. However, with Disney+ now involved, Doctor Who stands a very real chance of breaking into the mainstream and attracting a larger audience than ever before. That was evident from last year’s specials and, with Russell T. Davies (who relaunched the series to great success in 2005) at the helm, the Whoniverse is in undeniably safe hands.

When it comes to the concept and idea of change, resistance always goes hand in hand with it. Anything different is bound to get pushback from the traditionalists. This is something the media is very familiar with. Audiences are unable to witness the ideals they hold dear to themselves, which are washed away by something new.

Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson have been shooting Doctor Who since 2022 – and they’ve been talking about launching their first full series.
The return of Doctor Who to our screens this coming May bring with it – amongst other things – the first full season for Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor and Millie Gibson’s Ruby. The pair came together in the 2023 Christmas special for the first time, The Church On Ruby Road, but we now get eight episodes of them travelling through time and space. Eight episodes that began shooting at the end of 2022.
At the UK premiere in London for the new series of Doctor Who, the pair were asked how they’re feeling about properly introducing their characters to the world.
“Crazy”, said Gibson. “Nerve-wracking”, added Gatwa. “It’ll be a lot of people’s first impressions of the show”, Millie Gibson added, “so I think that’s so honourable and wild.

When Doctor Who returned in 2005, it was with Russell T Davies at the helm. Next month, the series will once again be relaunched with a new season 1 and, you guessed it, Davies calling the shots.
History has repeated itself, and following in the footsteps of Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker, and Tenant for a second time, will be Ncuti Gatwa.
He first played the Doctor in last year's 60th anniversary and Christmas specials, will take centre stage alongside Millie Gibson, and makes history as the first openly queer Black lead Time Lord.
There's inevitably been backlash to the casting - despite Gatwa stealing the show in his previous appearances - but the Rwandan-born, Scotland-raised actor isn't sweating the haters.
"Do you know what? It makes perfect sense to me," he tells Variety (via SFFGazette.com). "I feel like anyone that has a problem with someone...

Ncuti Gatwa made history when he appeared as the fifteenth Doctor in BBC’s Doctor Who. The Barbie star became the first Black and queer actor to portray the role, making his debut in the third 60th-anniversary special episode ‘The Giggle’. He took over from David Tennant, who returned to the role for the anniversary specials.
The fourteenth series of the show will begin airing in May of this year. The show also received a streaming partner in Disney Plus, which reportedly gave the show a bigger budget. While no particular numbers have been revealed, Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies mentioned that they could make the best episode even without the money.

British actor Ncuti Gatwa, famous for his role in Sex Education, becomes the first openly queer Black actor to take on the role of the fifteenth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who. Stepping into the iconic role of a two-hearted Time Lord who travels throughout space and time, Gatwa’s casting surprisingly sparked controversies.

Habituated to see straight white men playing the role of Doctor Who, fans slammed Ncuti Gatwa’s casting choice, following his appearance in December 2023. But the actor, alongside showrunner and writer Russell T Davies, clapped back at netizens with facts and logic, proving the past incarnations of the Doctor weren’t entirely straight.

Russell T. Davies was the man behind the golden age of Dr. Who with David Tennant. Throughout his tenure, ratings were consistently between 7.5 and 8 million per episode. This put David Tennant up there with the Fifth Doctor Peter Davison (1982-84), but behind the Fourth Doctor Tom Baker (1974-80), who at times attracted over 10 million viewers. Of course, it's worth noting that both of these were before the era of so many alternative channels.
First impressions from the Christmas special, The Church on Ruby Road, suggest that Ncuti Gatwa has the personality that the Doctor has lacked somewhat since Tennant left the role. And the chemistry between him and Millie Gibson, who plays Ruby, also gave us something to look forward to when the new season lands on May 11.

Netflix has recently released a new addition to its Sandman universe called Dead Boy Detectives. Continuing in the magnificent world created by Neil Gaiman in the DC Universe, the show follows the story of two teenage ghosts who, along with a clairvoyant, work as supernatural detectives. The concept comes straight from the comics and was also created by the Coraline writer.

The Occult comedy series brings some fresh faces, with actors like George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri, and Kassius Nelson in central roles, as well as familiar actors like Ruth Connell, who is best known for her work in Supernatural, as well as The White Lotus’ Lukas Gage.

When Ncuti Gatwa makes his first appearance as the 15th Doctor in the science-fiction series “Doctor Who,” he isn’t wearing any pants.
In a 60th-anniversary special released in December, the previous Doctor — played by series icon David Tennant — subverts the show’s long-standing practice of regeneration: Instead of simply transforming into the next Doctor, he literally splits in half, bringing Gatwa’s Doctor into the world alongside him. In the process, the two divide the clothes of Tennant’s Doctor between them, leaving Gatwa in nothing but a dress shirt and a pair of tighty-whities.
“Oh, my God, that first costume fitting!” Gatwa says, bursting into an infectious fit of laughter. It’s a frequent occurrence as he speaks with Variety on a chilly March day over lemon ginger tea at the Langham hotel in London. “I was like, ‘Are you joking?!’ They showed me a pair of [underwear] and...

In what will surely come as a huge shock to the general public and cause no small number of monocles to pop out, Amazon MGM Studios has elected to retitle Zoë Kravitz's feature directing debut, which was previously going under the not-at-all provocative moniker "Pussy Island." Kravitz's film will instead be released as "Blink Twice," which for me conjures memories of David Tennant's 10th Doctor desperately warning Carey Mulligan not to blink around the Weeping Angels in the classic modern "Doctor Who" episode "Blink."
That association isn't entirely inappropriate, either. "Blink Twice," like "Blink," is a potpourri of horror, mystery-thriller, and humor with an English actor at its core. In this case, it's Naomi Ackie of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," "Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody," and "Master of None" season 3 fame starring as a young woman who accompanies a tech billionaire -- played by Kravitz's current real-life significant other,...

Back in 2013, David Tennant and the not-yet-a-list Olivia Colman broke our brains with the first season of Broadchurch, a series written with a self-contained first season but which proved so popular it lasted for three years.
The outstanding first season of Broadchurch centers around the death of a young boy in a small, seemingly idyllic community. The sudden and horrible death of 11-year-old Danny sends his town in a tailspin. The investigation is run by the cheerful Detective Miller (Colman) and her equally dour partner, the recently transferred Detective Alec Hardy (Tennant).
Part of what made Broadchurch so interesting is that it wasn't just about the 'whodunnit' of it all. The series was not only interested in solving the crime, but also in examining the impact of Danny's death, the resulting media attention, and the investigation on a tight-knit community.
Now, fans of Broadchurch are discovering another David Tennant must-watch crime drama.

It will be worth it. That’s what the first two seasons of Good Omens have taught us as we await the third to return. The Prime Video series, based on the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett and now expanding on that story, began by following the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant) over the leading up to their attempt to stop Armageddon after the birth of the antichrist. The second season moved beyond the book and saw Aziraphale and Crowley hiding the amnesiac archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) from both Heaven and Hell before it ended in heartbreak. We know it will be some time before we find out what happens next, so below, we’re gathering everything we know about the future of Good Omens, including teases we got from Gaiman. Where Did Good Omens Season 2 Leave Crowley & Aziraphale?...

Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman have been among the most popular and sought-after actors in recent years. Although he became popular thanks to his role in Fleabag, Scott’s breakout performance was BBC’s Sherlock, in which he portrayed an amazing version of Moriarty. He’s got a point. Doctor Who hasn’t lacked for anniversary celebrations of late. The 60th in November 2023 came in alarmingly hot pursuit of the 50th in November 2013. (Apparently there was an entire decade between them but where’s the proof? It felt like… five minutes.)
And just before the diamond celebration, there was a whole 100-years-of-the-BBC hoopla complete with a multi-Doctor(ish) story and special episodes of Blue Peter and The Repair Shop.
Really, for anybody who’s keeping track, there must be a Doctor Who anniversary to celebrate on any given day of the year. To mark it all would be madness, and so showrunner Russell T Davies makes perfect sense when he says that 2025 won’t have a special to mark two decades since the show’s 2005 revival.

Goodbye, upside-down dustbins with toilet plungers glued on the front, hello, CGI dinosaurs! Okay, so "Doctor Who" has had CGI dinosaurs before (plus some fun old-school puppet dinos in the Jon Pertwee-era adventure "Invasion of the Dinosaurs"), but it's clear from this new trailer for the upcoming season of "Doctor Who" that returning showrunner Russell T. Davies is playing with a much bigger budget than he had during his original "Doctor Who" revival.
That's thanks to a co-production deal that makes Disney+ the new home of the long-running sci-fi series. The Disney deal means that "Doctor Who" now has vastly bigger budgets to play with, though the trade-off is that Disney gets a vote in the show's creative decisions.

Audiences love a bit of history. Kings, Queens, dates, battles, all of that stuff. And a big part of the fun in watching a historical drama is knowing that you are watching a version of events that have actually happened. Yes, there might not be any material evidence that J. Robert Oppenheimer’s wife was imagining him having sex with his mistress during his private security hearing, but enough of the other details are right that we don’t know for certain she didn’t.
We like learning about the small personal dramas behind the big events, and seeing how people lived and loved and worked in an age before laptops and phones. Audiences want to connect with something real. And if those historical dramas don’t get all of the details exactly right, then that’s fine too! Some people get annoyed at Neil DeGrasse Tyson-style pedantry, but...

“House of the Dragon” Releases Dueling Season 2 Trailers
Are you Team Green or Team Black?
HBO has released two new trailers for the upcoming second season of its “Game of Thrones” spinoff series “House of the Dragon.”
The new trailers, which set the series’ return on the cabler and Max late this spring, respectively focus on Princess Rhaenrya Targaryen (played by Emma D’Arcy), Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), and their black faction, and on Alicent Hightower’s (Olivia Cooke) green King’s Landing team of Alicent.
The fantasy drama series, based on author George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood,” details the history of House Targaryen nearly 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.” Season 1 followed Rhaenyra in her fight to be named the chosen heir of King Viserys I (Patty Considine) and the lead-up to the Dance of the Dragons.

We’re back in December 2020, and Paramount announces a new dinosaur-themed animated series titled Ark: The Animated Series. The series was announced via a trailer during the 2020 Video Game Awards, also revealing that the series would be featuring a star-filled cast that would include Gerard Butler, David Tennant, Michelle Yeoh, Jeffrey Wright, Zahn McClarnon, Elliot Page, Karl Urban, Malcolm McDowell, Alan Tudyk, Russell Crowe, and Vin Diesel, all of whom will also serve as the executive producers of the series.
The series was based on the Ark: Survival Evolved video game, with the game’s creators Jeremy Stieglitz and Jesse Rapczak serving as the creators of the series as well. In June 2022, as the series entered post-production, it was revealed that both Monica Bellucci and Dee Bradley Baker had joined the series as well, with Gareth Coker as the composer. And that was more or less it for a while.

Paramount+ has unveiled the first six episodes of Ark: The Animated Series, which are now streaming on the service as of today. But the first season won’t be limited to just this batch, as a second part to the season will host seven more episodes, although the release date for those has yet to be announced.
While I haven’t played the source video game (Ark: Survival Evolved), the voice cast for Ark: The Animated Series definitely piques interest, as it hosts Oscar winners, fan favorites and even Doctors…The partial cast list includes Madeleine Madden, Michelle Yeoh, Russell Crowe, Gerard Butler, Jeffrey Wright, David Tennant, Elliot Page, Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, and more.
While that is a seriously impressive cast, perhaps the biggest draw for some is that Ark will be scored by the game’s composer Gareth Coker, who also provided the gorgeous music for Ori and...

When Russell T Davies reacted with glee to the official announcement that ex-showrunner Steven Moffat has written an episode for the new series of Doctor Who, he did it with a show of solidarity to Moffat’s successor in the role.
After lavishing Moffat and his series 14 episode director Julie-Anne Robinson with praise on Instagram, Davies made a point of writing: “Steven was the second phonecall I made, after getting the old job back. The first was Chris Chibnall, but he sent love and kisses and Ran! Off to write his new novel!”
The message’s subtext seems clear, as it has been in every public statement Davies has made about the Chibnall era. He’ll have no truck with fans unduly criticising the previous showrunner, the post-2005 trio are mates, and they’re all magnificent, thank you very much. Additionally: when it comes out, buy Chris Chibnall’s new novel.
