I think we have a really good episode for you today as we do our regular Tuesday look at the new DVDs and Blu-rays, but then get into a lot of talk about the best political action thrillers, film structure in general, the best film endings and whether or not Paramount has much of a shot with a Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters sequel. In addition to that we have our section of games as well as a new one we're calling Pitch Meeting recommended by As. I want to remind you that you can call in and leave us your comments, thoughts, questions, etc. directly on our Google Voice account, which you can call and leave a message for us at (925) 526-5763, which may be even easier to remember at (925) 5-bnl-pod. Just call, leave us a voice mail and we'll add those to the show and respond directly. An alternative...

Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the RopeofSilicon podcast where this week we actually don't forget to cover the new DVDs and Blu-rays and, yet again, explore the current state of film, this time looking at the impact age has on filmmakers, discussing the want for quality when money is being spent making a movie and whether or not in-depth analysis of a film can actually hurt or help the appreciation of that film considering the bias of the person doing the analyzing. On top of that we have more of your questions and voicemails, all our regular games and a Box-Office Challenge update with all the latest numbers for all twenty films, including the foreign totals Box-Office Mojo had not yet added into several of the films... the results may surprise you, or, at least Laremy. I want to remind you that you can call in and leave us your comments,...

This felt like a strange podcast while we were recording, but listening to it back while making the timeline I actually think it turned out quite good. This week we review Cloud Atlas as it was the only one of the four new films coming to theaters either Laremy or I saw. We also talk about the idea of the Oscar injustice and if it's something we ever think about, what kind of control over a film directors should be allowed to have, who the most powerful directors in the industry are right now and what films we would show to our children, if we had children, which we don't. We even find time to rank both Quentin Tarantino and Sam Mendes' films almost on a whim and then we have Over/Unders, Buy or Sells and the new "Would you rather..." feature to close things out. We hope...

Friday time means movie review time on the RopeofSilicon podcast and today we give a few thoughts on Butter and The Oranges, two films we saw at last year's Toronto Film Festival that are hitting theaters today, as well as new releases Frankenweenie and Taken 2. We also discuss the Fall Box-Office Challenge a bit as we are finally getting into territory where more films will be in theaters and we address a question from Marlon Wallace asking what it would be like if the Oscars just went away and it takes us down an unexpected path. Over/Unders, Buy or Sells and Watch This or Watch That also play a part as do your questions and comments and we also announce a prize for the next podcast so you are going to want to get your thoughts in the comment section for that. As always, I have broken down...

Laremy is a little under the weather due to heavy partying in Los Angeles so be sure and give him a hard time in the comments and other than that we hope you enjoy. Despite Zack Silva's second-degree black belt in kenpo, a Japanese-Hawaiian form of martial arts, he has yet to play an action hero. He has, however, played good guy Alex Thomas on MyNetworkTV's limited-run series "Desire" and is currently playing the morally ambiguous figure Gavin on FX's crime drama "Terriers."These nonaction roles are far from the Jean-Claude Van Damme types that Silva fantasized about playing when he was a kid. But his background has served him well even in roles that don't require leaping and kicking. Besides skill and dexterity, martial arts demand plain old showmanship, he says, especially at the kind of demonstrations and tournaments that Silva participated in throughout adolescence. "Doing martial arts gave me a firm foundation, confidence, and strength as a performer," he explains. "The idea of discipline was instilled in me, and I approach acting with the same discipline I learned in martial arts.
