With the new Predator movie Prey being released through the Hulu streaming service earlier this month, a lot of people have been talking about the Predator franchise and revisiting the early movies. In the new episode of The Arrow in the Head Show, hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek are getting in on the Predator action as well, looking back at the 1990 film Predator 2 (watch it Here). To find out what they had to say about Predator 2, check out the video embedded above!
Directed by Stephen Hopkins from a screenplay written by Jim Thomas and John Thomas, Predator 2 has the following synopsis:
Los Angeles is enduring a heat wave and a crime wave, so the pressure on police officer Michael Harrigan to solve a strange string of murders is mounting. Harrigan thinks the culprit can be found among the warring gangs and drug cartels, but...

Two years have gone by since we’ve shared any news about the Predator: Hunting Grounds video game – but it has caught our attention that the game has a cool update coming “later this month” for fans of the new Predator movie Prey, which was released through the Hulu streaming service at the beginning of August. The bone mask that was worn by the Predator in Prey is being added to the game!
The addition of the bone mask was announced in this tweet:

The direct-to-Hulu release of “Prey,” the action-thriller prequel to “Predator,” notched the most viewing hours ever on the Disney-owned streamer in its first three days — among all TV series and movies.
That would mean “Prey” had a bigger aggregate viewing-time total over three days than “The Kardashians,” which Hulu in April said was its biggest TV series premiere at the time.
Disney decided to forgo a theatrical release for 20th Century Studios’ “Prey,” which premiered Aug. 5 on on Hulu in the U.S., as well as on Disney’s Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in all other territories.
Disney said “Prey” also was the most-watched film premiere on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ under the Star banner.

It’s good news all around for brand new Predator movie Prey, which has not only won over critics and franchise fans alike, but the film has also broken a new record over at Hulu.
We’ve learned today, “20th Century Studios’ highly acclaimed action-thriller Prey is the #1 premiere on Hulu to date, including all film and TV series debuts. Additionally, Prey is the most watched film premiere on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star Banner in all other territories, based on hours watched in the first three days of its release.”
Meagan Navarro wrote in her 4-star review for Bloody Disgusting, “Prey surprises in how different yet similar it feels to the franchise’s origins. It feels right at home with the mythology of the Predator universe yet stretches the boundaries in tone and scale. Soaring spectacle meets intimate storytelling, delivering one of the most solid entries in the franchise yet.

The infamous Predator gets a fresh update and an amazing new action hero (Amber Midthunder) in the prequel film out today. “Prey,” the fifth installment of the “Predator” franchise is now available to stream on Hulu. The new thriller is getting loads of love with a 92 critics score on Rotten Tomatoes (and 85 audience score).
Created by brothers Jim Thomas and John Thomas, and directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the film goes back to 1719 detailing an early days encounter with this iconic alien hunter. The hero of the story is a young warrior named Naru (Midthunder) who has absolutely enthralled audiences stalking the creepy beast lurking in the forests of the Comanche Nation.
What follows is an hour and a half of of genre-bending action that as Variety critic Owen Gleiberman wrote in his review, is inarguably the most socially conscious iteration of the story seen in the franchise.

The credited screenwriters on John McTiernan's 1987 film "Predator" are brothers Jim Thomas and John Thomas, who would also work on "Predator 2," "Executive Decision," and "Wild Wild West." The story goes that they slipped the script for "Predator" (originally called "Hunter") under an executive's door at 20th Century Fox in order for it to be noticed.
"Predator," for the uninitiated, is a military satire movie wherein the burliest, manliest men imaginable — all of them made of sweat and biceps — are sent go on a jungle-bound rescue mission with every type...

John is running for governor. What do you make of it?

Jim: Desperate times call for desperate measures. Jaime would be devastating for Montana, and while John is old school, his desire to preserve the Montana way of life is unwavering.

They're digging into everything Yellowstone Season 4 Episode 6, and we can't wait to hear your thoughts, too!
How do you feel about the 6666 storyline now that you know Taylor Sheridan and friends just bought the ranch?
Julie: I've known Taylor had the 6666 deal in the works since this time last year. I'm hoping we get some good shows to come from there in the future. I'm excited to see where he plans to take us with this new series. I'm kind of tired of it mixing with our Yellowstone storyline right now. But I'll just relax and see how things wrap up.
Jack: I'm not sure yet. At first, I was excited that Jimmy would still be in Yellowstone's world.

And let me tell you, there is a lot to unpack!
Once again, the round table features participants from The Yellowstone Bunkhouse, including Julie Castaneda and Jim Thomas who join TV Fanatic senior staff writers Whitney Evans and Jack Ori this week.
What did you think of Piper Perabo's introduction as Summer?
Jack: I'm not quite sure what to make of Summer yet.
Her politics certainly are different than most of the characters, and I'm sure John's decision to bail her out comes with more strings attached than just her agreement not to throw any more rocks at Kayce.
She might be an interesting foil for Beth if they ever cross paths. What did you think of Piper Perabo's introduction as Summer?
Julie: I am holding judgment on this until I see a little more.

Lloyd let his anger toward Walker get the best of him. Did he handle that situation right, and was Rip right to rein him in as he did?
Julie: Lloyd has let his emotions get the best of him lately. His decision making is impaired and Rip knows it. When it comes to the rules on the ranch, Lloyd should know better than anyone. He’s a senior cowboy, with over 30 years on the ranch. He was, at one time the foreman. The bunkhouse is supposed to look up to Lloyd.
Sadly, his credibility is dwindling. Rip went after Lloyd and rightfully so.

On Friday, Shane Black’s The Predator will arrive, intending to be a fresh take on the franchise that appears to be playing up the humor. It’s set after the 1987 original and its Predator 2 sequel so acknowledges those events happened, which is cool.
Additionally, 20th Century Home Entertainment has wisely capitalized on the new film by releasing 4K Uhd releases of Predator 4K, Predator 2 4K and Predators 4K.
When the film first arrived, audiences suspected it was another Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick with sci-fi trappings. After all, the one-sheet positioned him, rifle in hand, in the crosshairs of someone. He was paired with Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Richard Chaves, Jesse Ventura, and so on (including Black back when he acted). What no one was prepared for, though, was John McTiernan’s taut direction and Stan Winston’s amazing alien hunter; the helmet removal moment late in the film stunned audiences.

Smarter, stronger, deadlier -when you’re hunting The Predator, those are probably words you don’t want to hear. In this new trailer for Shane Black’s reinvention of the franchise, we get a pretty good look at what a smarter, stronger and deadlier Predator looks like.
This being a red-band trailer, we also get a crude joke or two, but there a cute little endangered kid just to pull on the heartstrings to sorta balance things out.
And for anyone headed to San Diego Comic-Con next month, the cast and filmmakers will be presenting exclusive, new film footage in Hall H on July 19.
Until then, here’s the longline: From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before,...

“Tell me about the mission – did you see anything unusual?” Hmm, there’s a loaded question, and a nice set-up for this first teaser trailer for Shane Black’s The Predator.
Here’s what we know from the logline for what’s being called a “reinvention” of the series (based on characters created by Jim Thomas & John Thomas): “From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”
The trailer gives a hint about how the boy “triggers” the invasion.

Predator 2 was a pretty strange movie. Transporting the alien hunter into the urban jungle was a logical step for a sequel, but the bizarre voodoo subplot, replacing Arnie with Danny Glover and the addition of Gary Busey resulted in a rather confused and ambling cinematic experience. Critics and fans agreed, too, with the film failing to meet box office expectations and suffering vicious reviews.
This makes it all the more frustrating to hear screenwriter Jim Thomas explain the initial plans for the project, revealing the following:
“We had an idea where at the end [of Predator], with the burned up clearing where the explosion happens. Predator 2 pens there. Predator’s invisible feet come into view and a hand plunges down into the dust, into the ashes, and brings up the Predator’s arm and then activates the computer and gets a readout to see everything that had happened up to that time,...

Are we in the midst of a filmmaking revolt against the overuse of computer generated effects? This latest development in the journey of The Predator to the big screen might suggest as much, as director and co-writer of the film, Shane Black, has taken to Twitter to confirm that he will indeed be delivering a real, tangible Predator, when the blockbuster is released in the summer of 2018.
I am standing on set next to a 7-foot tall gentleman in a Predator suit — so no, it is not all CGI.

While it may seem like a mere snippet of information, lending a tantalizing glimpse of the production process for this highly anticipated sequel, this actually speaks volumes about the growing, and welcome trend in mainstream studio movies to return to the days of practical effects, over and above the use of CGI.

A fisherman off the coast of Florida recorded a goliath grouper swallowing a 4-foot shark in a single bite in a video that has now gone viral.
Goliath Grouper Swallows 4-ft Shark Whole
The fisherman in the video had just caught a four-foot black tip shark in Bonita Springs, Fl, when the goliath grouper made itself known. Just as the shark was approaching the side of the boat, the giant fish emerged from the water, opening its jaws, and disappeared just as quickly, leaving nothing in its wake.
Goliath groupers populate the Florida coastal waters, though they are far from common. Known as predators, goliath groupers can grow up to 800 pounds, measuring over 8 feet in length. According to the Florida Museum of Natural History, goliath groupers typically eat lobsters, shrimps, octopus and other fishes, and prefer to consume their food in one bite.

Humankind’s collision with otherworldly life forms can make for unforgettable cinema.
This article will highlight the best of live-action human vs. alien films. The creatures may be from other planets or may be non-demonic entities from other dimensions.
Excluded from consideration were giant monster films as the diakaiju genre would make a great subject for separate articles.
Readers looking for “friendly alien” films such as The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), It Came from Outer Space (1953) and the comically overrated Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) are advised to keep watching the skies because they won’t find them here.
Film writing being the game of knowledge filtered through personal taste that it is, some readers’ subgenre favorites might not have made the list such as War of the Worlds (1953) and 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957).
Now let’s take a chronological look at the cinema’s best battles between Us and Them.

Barry James Thomas - the 49-year-old uncle of Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas and Emmerdale's Adam Thomas - also does his best to send the coaches spinning.
Singing Etta James classic 'Something's Got A Hold On Me', 18-year-old self-confessed "small town girl" Elise Evans is another contestant hoping for a shot at stardom.

Directed by John McTiernan
Written by Jim Thomas & John Thomas
Us, 1987
It’s mostly the filmgoers who were the young action junkies who savored the excess of the 80’s who found a new lease of life upon news that Schwarzenegger was back. The Austrian bodybuilding dynamo’s return to film after ending his unlikely tenure as governor of California not only serves as a whimsically nostalgic callback to blockbusters of yesteryear, but also a sad indictment of the decline in quality of popcorn flicks of the modern era. Such talk, however, is hyperbolic, and there’s truth in the old adage that absence makes the heart grow fonder. While Schwarzenegger certainly brought a very different, very distinct and fun energy to Hollywoodland, its worth remembering that much of his curriculum vitae is substandard even by schlock ham values. For every Terminator there’s a Running Man, each Total Recall let down by Eraser.

So this is a night-and-day situation for you. Before on Life Unexpected, your character had a calm reality with normal life and this time on Beauty And The Beast, your character has a heightened-reality where he must face life-and-death stakes everyday.
Austin: Yeah, I cite the difference in that in normal everyday life you and me don’t have to go through our lives having to deal with stuff like this, so the normal highs and lows become high drama. But when you have an external force pushing you into a situation where you’re really just reacting to the fact that it becomes life-and-death, you don’t have to create any of the drama. The drama and the conflict is built in and forces your character into action.
One of the things this version of Beauty And The Beast offers more of is the comedy element, which maybe because of the addition of J.

One point of discussion after watching Lawless not involving violence, morals or hairstyles, has been the simple item of clothing worn by Tom Hardy as Forrest Bondurant. It seems that his rudimentary knitwear has caused head-scratching and amusement for some cinemagoers. Yet there is nothing odd in Forrest’s choice of attire, in fact historically speaking for the early 1930s in rural America it is spot-on accurate, not to mention perfectly in tune with his character; a gruff man, comfortable in his own skin, who cares about as much for fashion as he does money.
This contrast between the man and his clothing provides an ironic twist. The knitted cardigan is soft to the touch and not especially hard wearing; Forrest is neither of these things, and thus the assertion that ‘we are what we wear’ does not apply. Unless we consider that garments cannot express meaning away from the...

On June 12th, 1987, audiences around the country got their first look at that (to borrow one of the more quotable bits from the movie) ugly motherfucker that is "Predator." It heralded a number of promising new stars – most notably Arnold Schwarzenegger finally getting a bona fide blockbuster after sleeper hits like "The Terminator" and "Conan The Barbarian" – and director John McTiernan would emerge as one of the freshest, most stylish voices in action filmmaking since John Ford. The movie, which was produced by action luminary Joel Silver, and featured a platoon of hardened bad-asses on a clandestine mission in the jungles of South America, who come across something way more threatening than drug runners or Soviets, is a classic of the action sci-fi genre, a runaway train of a movie that has held up remarkably well in the 25 (!) years since its release. The film would go on to spawn two...

This first fest runs just two days (July 18th and 19th), but the fest’s promoter, James Thomas, hopes the event gets bigger and grows into an annual tradition. Chicago – Good films deliver on their promise. Great films up the ante even more. In this version of the long “Predators” franchise from director Nimrod Antal (“Control,” “Armored,” “Vacancy”) and more-known producer Robert Rodriguez (“Grindhouse,” “Sin City”), we merely see more of the same: just enough to get us by but not nearly enough to make us care.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
The curiously cast film stars the I’m-trying-to-be-badass Brody as he attempts to fill the more authentic shoes of Arnold Schwarzenegger from 1987’s “Predator”.
The battle-hardened and mercenary-turned Brody is self-elected as the team leader of the humans as they wage war against alien predators out of necessity. While the humans are fighting for their lives, the predators are simply butchering for sport. The aliens merely want to improve their abilities as the harbringers of death and they use humans as their guinea pigs.

Producer: Robert Rodriguez.
The latest film in the Predator franchise is centrally from the minds of Nimrod Antal (Vacancy) and Robert Rodriguez (Grindhouse). Other writers have participated and this latest film is being distributed by 20th Century Fox, while being partially produced by Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios. This alien hunter franchise spans twenty plus years and Predators goes from man vs man, or alien, in the original, to squad vs squad on the Predator's home, or at least an alien-made turf. It's fast-paced, full of great fight scenes, and isn't bloated with awful CGI padding. The unpretentious monster movie Predators is a rip-roaring tale of supersolidier aliens fighting supersoldier humans, and it's damn good fun. Plus, it even has interesting characters!
Predators is a welcome dose of escapism in this summer of effects-heavy stinkers. The movie is set in the present day, decades after an elite group of special forces encountered a "thing" in the jungle - the very "thing" that Arnold Schwarzenegger beat in the first Predator flick. (Producer Robert Rodriguez has said the movie's name is a callback to Aliens, suggesting that it's the second in the series - so forget about all those other lame sequels.)
Taking its cues from that spare, crackly original movie,...

Director: Nimród Antal Writers: Michael Finch, Alex Litvak, Jim Thomas (characters), John Thomas (characters) Starring: Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Louis Ozawa Changchien In 1987, Predator introduced an invisibility-cloaked extra-terrestrial warrior who wreaked havoc in a Central American jungle. Looking to reboot the Predator franchise in 1994, Twentieth Century Fox enlisted Robert Rodriguez (fresh off his directorial debut El Mariachi) to pen a new Predator script. Fifteen years later, Rodriguez received a phone call from Fox saying they just found his script and wanted to make his movie. Predators is that movie (though with a revised script and Rodriguez deferred the directing duties to Nimród Antal). In the jarring and disorienting opening, we are dropped – quite literally – into the jungle alongside Royce (Adrien Brody), a heavily-armed lone soldier sporting a very large gun. Royce promptly gathers a merry albeit untrustworthy band of outsiders (which,...

Chicago – Watching John McTiernan’s “Predator” again to prepare for the upcoming Adrien Brody vehicle “Predators,” I was struck with surprise that this relatively generic action B-movie has spawned such an enormous franchise that includes one sequel, two “Alien vs. Predator” movies, the new reboot, comic books, action figures, and video games. It’s an inarguably decent action flick but who would have guessed what it would lead to?
The future Governor of California was at his ’80s action star peak when “Predator” was released in the summer of 1987 (after “Commando” but before “The Running Man”). With an entertaining supporting cast that included Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, and another future politician in Jesse Ventura, “Predator” is actually a clever sci-fi take on the war movies of the day. Keep in mind, the film came out not that long after the Vietnam War (and only a year after the Best Picture-winning...
