ITV has confirmed the departure of Daybreak's third boss in three years.
Editor Karl Newton has left his position after less than a year in the position. He oversaw the breakfast show's new look with presenters Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones last year.
However, the show has continued to struggle in the ratings against rival BBC Breakfast.
Earlier this week, the programme was seen by only 700,000 viewers, less than a third of the BBC's audience. Newton will be replaced temporarily by Neil Thompson.
Newton said that he is "pleased to be leaving Daybreak having helped the programme turn a corner and having returned the breakfast format to its journalistic roots, with politics, exclusives and popular investigative content".
Last year, former Channel 5 news editor David Kermode left the editor position on the show, having taken over from Ian Rumsey in 2011.
Daybreak replaced GMTV back in September 2010 with Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley as presenters.

Microsoft has said that iPlayer on Xbox 360 is not a priority. European senior regional director Neil Thompson said that the firm would rather develop new content and focus on the Kinect peripheral than target the iPlayer for the system. "I think the way we look at the services we have with our TV services, we're very happy with what we're doing with Sky," he told Official Xbox Magazine. "What we really want to do is ensure that we can differentiate and bring new things and that's about really looking at the services we have and saying, 'How can we improve those and make those even more interactive and more differentiated?' "Now that we have Kinect coming to the platform as well I think that's all we're going to focus our energy on and that's where we're going to put all of our focus on in the next year." Thompson...

Microsoft has revealed its "bullish" expectations for the popularity of Sky Player on Xbox Live, which launches tomorrow. The new service offers 24 live TV channels and a raft of on-demand content from Sky, along with a range of social features for users to share their viewing experience. Despite not talking exact numbers, Xbox senior regional director for UK and Ireland Neil Thompson said that pre-launch research has suggested strong levels of take-up for the service going forward. "A lot of research has gone into the development of this service. As time has gone on, and we have seen a more and more compelling service emerge, our confidence on the uptake has just gone through the roof," he said.
