- In reading for Miramax, I read all types. For the professional or good scripts, while they aren't perfect, they await the right principals to become films. The amateur scripts or the ones that aren't as good do tend to make the same mistakes. I see them over and over again. After forty, eighty times, you start seeing patterns. I realized that some of these people were talented but they make similar mistakes. Maybe they are starting with the wrong assumptions, maybe they don't understand what a screenplay really is or how it functions.
- [on the making of Auditions] "Part of my job was to get people to understand guerrilla filmmaking, to embrace it and even defend it. If you understand what things are going to look like and how to work with that look, you can work quickly and cheaply, and still get an image that you are happy with."
