Lifetime is wading into the guardianship debate by greenlighting a fictional movie with the working title The Bad Guardian.
Following the headlines and debate surrounding the guardianships of Wendy Williams and Britney Spears, the network has ordered a movie about a court-appointed guardianship gone wrong.
The Bad Guardian will star Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch) and La La Anthony (La La’s Full Court Life) and “is inspired by countless true stories of individuals who have been put in the care of a guardian by the courts and raises the question — are these caretakers helpful or harmful?”
The official (and a bit spoiler-filled) description: The Bad Guardian is “about one woman’s fight to save her father from the clutches of a corrupt and greedy court-appointed guardian. When Leigh’s (Melissa Joan Hart) father Jason (Eric Pierpoint) suffers a fall while she’s out of town, the courts assign Jason a guardian,...

Disarming and delightful, the sleeper indie comedy “Feast of the Seven Fishes” proves anew that the most universal storytelling is also the most specific. If your parents or grandparents were immigrants to the United States, you’re likely to recognize your family here, no matter what holiday you celebrate or what elaborate meals you cook to mark the occasion.
Writer-director Robert Tinnell, adapting his and Alex Saviuk’s graphic novel of the same name, takes some cues from “Diner” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” and filters them through the Christmas and coming-of-age genres. But what makes “Feast” special is the details of character and time and place; many of the film’s biggest laughs spring not from one-liners or pratfalls but from recognizable human moments.
Set in 1983 in the Rust Belt, the film follows Tony through a holiday season that’s going to change his life. Studying business and working in his parents’ store,...

Jean Zarzour, Ray Abruzzo, Joe Pantoliano, Lynn Cohen, and Paul Ben-Victor in Robert Tinnell’s memorable and smart Feast Of The Seven Fishes
Robert Tinnell’s memorable and smart Feast Of The Seven Fishes, shot by Jamie Thompson, production design by Jason Baker, costumes by Joshua Hurt, edited by Aaron J Shelton, and a score by Matt Mariano, has a great ensemble cast including Paul Ben-Victor (Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman), Joe Pantoliano, Skyler Gisondo, Madison Iseman, Ray Abruzzo, Lynn Cohen, Jean Zarzour, Addison Timlin, Josh Helman, Andrew Schulz, Jessica Darrow, Cameron Rostami, David Kallaway, Tony Bingham, and Nancy Telzerow,
When I met with screenwriter/director Robert Tinnell for a conversation, he told me how much the film is based on his childhood memories. The time is Christmas 1983, the place a small Appalachian town in West Virginia. An extended Italian American family is readying to celebrate the Feast Of The Seven Fishes.

"I turn my back for one minute, and you guys screw up Christmas!" Shout Studios has debuted a trailer for a "deliciously warm and inviting, feel-good family gathering" film titled Feast of the Seven Fishes, from writer / director Robert Tinnell. A slice of life story that follows a large Italian family on Christmas Eve as they prepare for the traditional "Feast of the Seven Fishes" (also an Italian cookbook), reminisce about the past, and seek love in the future. Set in 1983, just days before Christmas, the Oliverio family readies their Feast of the Seven Fishes, an Italian tradition stretching back to the old country of Calabria. The full cast includes Skyler Gisondo, Madison Iseman, Josh Helman, Addison Timlin, Ray Abruzzo, Lynn Cohen, with Joe Pantoliano and Paul Ben-Victor. This seems like such an oddly quaint film for these days - nothing crazy happens, just a family getting together for the holidays with a big feast.

Stewart also toplines Back Fork, which he wrote and is directing. Production began Thursday in Back Fork, W.V.
Stewart is also producing with Jeffrey Tinnell and Robert Tinnell. Tony Sgro is executive producing.
The drama deals with opioid addiction, a timely topic as it has become a national health crisis in the U.S. and President Donald Trump spoke on the topic Tuesday. The location and situations are close to Stewart’s heart, as the filmmaker is from West Virginia.

Bela Lugosi fan alert! This Monogram horror opus is yet another narrative-challenged fumble of unmotivated, incomprehensible characters… but Bela’s great in it, in a central role. He’s a sympathetic, non- maniac this time, if you don’t count his tendency to go into trances and smother random houseguests. Savant’s review has the lowdown on the interesting cast; Tom Weaver’s commentary has the authoritative lowdown on whole show.

O.K. This is the wiseass editor typing. Emily’s not here today.
Something about near-complete exhaustion from something called “work.”
Do not fret. Emily will be back next week, no doubt because we’ll hire Deadpool to either find her or ghost her column.
And Emily will be at the Baltimore Comic-Con September 8th and 9th, joining fellow ComicMixers Marc Alan Fishman, Glenn Hauman, Adriane Nash, and Mike Gold (who always enjoys writing about himself in the third person), and artistic ComicMixers Timothy Truman, Mark Wheatley, Andrew Pepoy, Robert Tinnell and Marc Hempel. We’ll mostly be terrorizing the masses at the Insight Studios booth and at the Unshaven Comics booth.
Yes, I just used poor Emily’s exhaustion to plug a comics convention. Any port in a storm.
‘Till then, caveat emptor!

It’s here– the final battle of our webcomics tournament between Thomas Siddell’s Gunnerkrigg Court and Tarol Hunt’s Goblins!
Both strips pulled off tremendous upsets in the last round, beating such webcomics as Homestuck and Order Of The Stick, to make it to the final showdown. We remind you that the second place winner will get $50, with the grand prize winner walking away with $100. (We’d also like to point out that if you’re a fan of either of these strips, you may enjoy our own GrimJack: The Manx Cat by John Ostrander and Timothy Truman and Demons of Sherwood by Robert Tinnell and Bo Hampton. End of soft sell.)
The finals start right now, and ends this Monday night, April 9, at 11:59 Pm, Eastern Daylight Time.

Dark Horse Comics has announced a new level of horror is on its way: a classic werewolf tale entitled Riven. The third collaboration between co-writers Bo Hampton (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow) and Robert Tinnell (The Wicked West), Riven is 196 pages of finely tuned terror that will send shivers up your spine!
“Riven is a stone killer of a werewolf story with a fragile young woman as a protagonist. It was irresistible for us to create, and we’re betting the readers will agree it was well worth the wait,” said Bo Hampton. “She’s adopted from a Romanian orphanage at the age of three and brought to America. At the age of thirteen an accident puts her in a coma—but doctors are completely baffled because her brain waves spike every thirty days—in direct correlation with the full moon.”

In Tim Lucas’s introduction to Flesh And Blood, Lucas states,“This is what Van Helsing (2004) might have been.” I couldn’t agree more. Robert Tinnell and Neil Vokes give readers a veritable battle royale of classic monsters, from Dracula to Frankenstein to a terrorizing werewolf, with nary a wink at the proverbial camera. Everything is played quite serious, with a heaping portion of gore, sex, and violence to keep the reader on his or her (but let’s face it, probably his) toes.
The story opens as the best stories always do: with a gratuitous lesbian sex scene. And it’s only the first such scene of several. Harkening back to the Hammer films of yore, Flesh And Blood is filled with sex, but it’s never schlocky. Sex between two women, sex between a man and a woman, vampire feedings supercharged with innuendo. Okay, maybe it’s a little schlocky,...

I attended my first big comic book show back during the Paleolithic Age. It was either Phil Seuling’s first or second New York Convention, and it was a blast. There were about 500 of us in a Broadway hotel, and at least 475 of us didn’t realize there were so many people who were, in this respect, just like us. We realized we were not alone.
Cut to the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con. Add everybody up – paid attendance, freebees, professionals, dealers, Hollywood types, publishing people, foreign distributors, Communist spies – and there were about 150,000 folks stuffed into that convention boxcar. That’s like a 300x increase. Ok, it took over 40 years to get to that point, but still, back in the late 1960s the Seuling show was the only big game in the nation. Today, you’ve got huge shows in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston and/or Dallas and/or Austin,...

In October, just in time for Halloween, Monsterverse will be releasing Volume One of its new graphic novel series Flesh and Blood written by Robert Tinnell and illustrated by Neil D. Vokes. Sam Park, West Coast Editor of Monsterverse's Bela Lugosi's Tales from the Grave anthology comics, recently interviewed Vokes and has graciously shared his ten Q&A's with Dread Central.
Well known comic book writer Kurt Busiek describes Neil Vokes as "a true original -- creative, cantankerous, enthusiastic and an all-around great guy." After reading his conversation with Sam, we tend to agree. Check it out below, and let us know what you think!
Q1. Who are you, and how can people learn more about you and your work?
Nv: Neil Vokes, artist. I can be found via my "That's All Vokes!" blog and in the "That's All Vokes!" Yahoo! group.
Q2. What brought you to this moment as a creator?...

We got word today that a pretty interesting addition has been made to the "Monsterverse Horror Comics Ate My Brain" panel being held at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 22nd: Werewolf screenwriter Michael Tabb.
Werewolf, you may recall, is the new stand-alone film from Universal that was originally slated to be a sequel to its less than warmly received The Wolfman from 2010. Maybe we'll finally get some clarification as to the exact nature of the upcoming film to be directed by Louis Morneau (reboot, redux, sequel, or what) during the panel.
As for his Monsterverse connection, Tabb will be writing a sinister nod to "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" for an upcoming issue of Monsterverse's acclaimed Bela Lugosi's Tales from the Grave horror anthology comic book series.
Prior to the addition of Michael Tabb, here are the Monsterverse panel details:

Back in the days when I was a young, fledgling horror fan, magazines and comics about my beloved genre were not nearly as readily available as they are today. At a time when Forry Ackerman’s Famous Monsters of Filmland ruled the roost and Fangoria was just a glimmer in the eye of some ad executive, we “Monster Kids” got our genre updates the old fashioned (and highly unreliable) way - via word of mouth.
As the years have clicked by and with the introduction of the Internet, being a fan has gotten a whole lot easier, still many of us look back on those early days of horror fandom with more than a little bit of nostalgia.
Luckily, those who have been missing the days of their youth, can rejoice with the introduction of Monsterverse, an imprint of genre-related titles such as Bela Lugosi’s Tales From The Grave...

What started out as a joke between editors of the Daily Cross Hatch blog, Brian Heater and Sarah Morean, has stormed across the land to become a for us nerds to celebrate in tandem. Read Comics in Public Day is exactly what it sounds like. Remember to the "norms", "muggles", and "non-nerds" comic books are but mere childish things. While they may have heard of "Graphic Novels", and probably have seen more than one film lately that was once based on some form of comic literature... they themselves wouldn't be caught dead perusing an issue of Action Comics or Ghost World whilst out and about. And while hipsters flick and pan on their iPhones, iPads and Kindles, and the spinsters cling to their romance novels whilst whisking themselves on planes, trains, and buses... They look down their noses at we who de-bag our copy of Ultimate Spider-Man, and revel in the mid-adventures of Peter Parker.

It had completely slipped our mind to tell people that the print collection of Ez Street came out in stores last Wednesday, but then we saw this rave review from Scoop:

The flood of comic books and graphic novels being adapted into films and TV series shows no signs of abating.

According to Comics2Film at Mania.com [1], director Brad Anderson (The Machinist, Session 9) is set to direct a feature based on the 128 page epic and terrifying graphic novel by Robert Tinnell and Todd Livngston, the creators of The Black Forest [2] and The Wicked West [3]. Brad Anderson who has become known for his work on edgy thrillers like Session and The Machinist (and more recently directing episodes of Fringe) seems the perfect candidate given its premise. The Living and the Dead which actually began as a screenplay before sold to Speakeasy Comics, takes place in nineteenth century Europe and focuses on a perverse madman who lures his victims to be tortured and killed as part of his twisted performance art. MTV News caught up with Robert Tinnell, who revealed that Victor Frankenstein from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein also plays a major role within the story. "This is about twelve or...

While news of this coming film has been floating around for a couple of days, I wasn't unterested until Mania reported that one of my favorite filmmakers (albeit for only one film, The Machinist), Brad Anderson, is attached to direct this comic adaptation. The Living and the Dead, created by Robert Tinnell and Todd Livingston, is a 128 page graphic novel. You can check out more about it on the official website.
Here's a description of the graphic novel:
You are a simple, country doctor in a small village. You have a beautiful wife and a wonderful son - the perfect life. Only they don't know that in your past, you did a very bad thing! People died because of it, and you were forced to flee and live incognito. Now, in an opportunity to redeem yourself, you unwittingly unleash a brutal and perverse murderer, a deviant sociopath hell bent on...

Brad Anderson has signed on to direct the film adaptation of “The Living And The Dead,” a graphic novel by writers Todd Livingston & Robert Tinnell and artist Micah Farritor.
Anderson—perhaps best known for his work on “The Machinist” and “Session 9”—has more recently left his mark on TV by directing several episodes of “Fringe.” He is currently directing the horror/thriller “Vanishing on 7th Street” with Hayden Christensen and Thandie Newton.
Mania is reporting that Anderson will direct “The Living And The Dead” for Solipsist Films. Livingston & Tinnell have also written the screenplay adaptation of their graphic novel.
Originally released in 2005 by Speakeasy comics, “The Living And The Dead” takes place in nineteenth century Europe and focuses on a perverse madman who lures his victims to be tortured and killed as part of his twisted “performance art.”
