When Guy Ritchie’s crime comedy series The Gentlemen debuted on Netflix in March, it came in at #1 Global Top 10 for English-Language Series, garnering 1.2B minutes viewed in its first four days on the platform, according to Nielsen. That being said, will there be a Season 2?
“It wasn’t genuinely discussed,” star Theo James admitted today, in an appearance at Deadline’s Contenders TV. “I think it would be a wrangling process with all of us and Guy. But also, I think with a show like this, if you’re going to do more, you need to come up with a really interesting conceit for Season 2. Because as much as we enjoyed it and as fun as it was, it needs narrative drive.”
If an interesting idea is put forward, he said, then maybe another installment is in the cards. “But I think before that,” James added, “there needs to be discussions,...

Just four years after the movie hit theaters, Netflix has turned Guy Ritchie's "The Gentlemen" into a TV show. The above teaser trailer for the series offers proof of that, introducing a drug empire, a cast of criminals, and some vintage Ritchie shenanigans.
The teaser admittedly doesn't dive too deeply into the story, but it does do a great job of capturing the vibe. It's all set to the tune of "Time of the Season" by The Zombies, with some welcome narration by Giancarlo Esposito, of "Breaking Bad" and "The Boys" fame. Esposito is just one part of a pretty well-stacked ensemble led by Theo James ("The White Lotus"). Blood, boxing, and quips, this has all of the hallmarks of a classic Guy Ritchie production. It certainly has a similar feeling to the 2020 movie, but it also feels designed to satisfy "Snatch" fans. The official synopsis for the show...

Production on the lavish period piece will take place in the Sicilian cities of Palermo, Syracuse, Catania as well as the Italian capital over the next four months.
The historical tapestry with elements comparable to “Downton Abbey” or “The Crown,” and potential to make a global mark, is a modern take on the sensual Sicilian saga famously adapted into a film by Luchino Visconti starring Claudia Cardinale, Alain Delon and Burt Lancaster. The film, now an Italian cinema classic, won the 1963 Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Guy Ritchie is keeping pretty busy these days. In addition to his role directing the live-action and somehow TikTok-inspired adaptation of Disney's "Hercules," he's also set to start production on the series spin-off of his film "The Gentlemen" for Netflix. In the 2019 film, Matthew McConaughey starred as Mickey Pearson, an American living in England who oversees a massive marijuana empire hidden in the estates of members of the British aristocracy in need of some fast cash. We called "The Gentlemen" a "stylish but empty Guy Ritchie gangster romp" in our own review of the film, but the box office success of the action-comedy crime film was enough to constitute a follow-up series. The film is set in the same world as "The Gentlemen," but as reported by Variety, promises to be a story all its own. Here's everything we know about the series so far.

Exclusive: The Pursuit Of Love, an adaptation of Nancy Mitford’s classic novel, was one of the first high-end TV projects to resume production in the UK after the initial Covid-19 lockdown ended this past summer. Produced by Moonage Pictures and Open Book for BBC One and Amazon, the Lily James-starrer had any number of hurdles to jump through in order to get back up and running, including deciphering early sanitary protocols, location shifts and hanging onto in-demand talent. Also among the cast are Andrew Scott, Emily Beecham, Dominic West and Dolly Wells.
Written and directed by Emily Mortimer, The Pursuit Of Love postponed an original spring shoot when the virus kiboshed plans. Ultimately, the three-part mini got back on track in July, and wrapped in mid-October, just before the latest lockdown. “We seem to have been very fortunate and managed to fall in the gap,” Moonage co-founder and...

British broadcasters are going back to drama basics as they line up a swathe of lower budget scripted series to counter the multi-billion spend of the global SVODs.
Broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 are preparing for a drama future where the likes of Netflix, which spends around $6.5M per episode of The Crown, for instance, and Amazon, which is expected to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on its adaptation of Lord of the Rings, are looking to take all global rights to projects.
Over the last few years, British networks have taken advantage of digital co-pro funds with shows such as C4 and Amazon’s Electric Dreams and BBC and Netflix’s Troy costing millions. But, these funds are soon expected to dry up, with the likes of Sister Pictures founder Jane Featherstone saying “the honeymoon is over”, leading domestic broadcasters to find new...

BBC Studios has acquired a minority stake in Moonage Pictures, it announced Wednesday. The start-up, specialising in British scripted drama, was officially launched in March by Matthew Read, Will Gould and Frith Tiplady – all executive producers on hit BBC crime series “Peaky Blinders.”
“We’re super excited to be announcing our partnership with BBC Studios,” said Gould. “They have a really good understanding of how we want to work; we’re an independent company that values creativity above all else, working with the best of the best to make dramas with a global ambition. BBC Studios can help us do this.”
The trio founded Moonage last year, taking inspiration for their new company’s name from David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream.” Read is a former commissioning editor for BBC Drama as well as a writer and producer. BBC Studios has acquired a stake in Moonage Pictures, the UK production company founded by some of the team behind Peaky Blinders.
The commercial arm of the British public broadcaster has taken a minority stake in the business, established by veteran Tiger Aspect exec Will Gould, former BBC Drama Commissioner Matthew Read and Tiger Drama’s Frith Tiplady.
The indie production company was launched earlier this year to produce writer-led programming. In January, it scored its first commission, Sean Bean and Malachi Kirby-fronted action drama Curfew, for Sky One, which is a co-pro with Tiger Aspect.
It is thought to be one of the first investments by BBC Studios since it was merged with BBC Worldwide in April. The latter has been aggressively acquiring stakes in indies over the last few years.
Moonage Pictures Co-Founder Will Gould said, “We’re super excited to be announcing our partnership with BBC Studios.
