The Garfield Movie has arrived in theaters ahead of Memorial Day to kick off the summer fun alongside Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The animated feature film stars the titular orange tabby cat in a coming-of-age story based on Jim Davis’ iconic cartoon strips and an adapted script from David Reunolds (Finding Nemo) based on an earlier draft from Paul Kaplan & Mark Torgove. Mark Dindal (Chicken Little) directs the creature feature.
With Chris Pratt bringing Garfield to life and Samuel L. Jackson voicing his streetwise and long-list father Vic, the film boasts quite an ensemble of voice actors that further contribute to Garfield’s adventure. Ted Lasso alumni Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham lend their familiar vocals to the movie as do Saturday Night Live alumni Bowen Yang and Cecily Strong.

Garfield (Chris Pratt), as we all know, is a cat who loves lasagne but hates Mondays. Abandoned by his dad in an alleyway in the rain, Garfield teams up in life with Jon (Nicholas Hoult), and Odie (Harvey Guillén), who become his new best friends. Garfield has an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father Vic (Samuel L. Jackson), who draws him into a high-stakes heist.
If you Google it, there have probably been more Garfield movies than you have ever realized. The Garfield movie from 2004 is the one that made the most waves, with follow-ups such as Garfield’s Pet Force understandably flying under the radar. Somehow, the lazy orange cat has been on everyone’s radar 20 years later with The Garfield Movie, and after seeing it,...

A baffling misunderstanding of the charm and appeal of the grouchy cartoon cat is one of many reasons to hate this atrocious new take, along with the many, many ads
There’s not that much to Garfield. Understanding the orange tabby of funny-pages repute is pretty simple: he has a set of integral, inalienable traits – his ill temperament, his cynical outlook, his sedentary lifestyle, his motivation primarily in self-interest and his indifference to owner Jon Arbuckle – that define the grouchy yet likable pop-cultural fixture. Any depiction of a Garfield that eschews these qualities, even while adhering to such superficial markers as his love of lasagne or hatred of Mondays, ceases to be Garfield at all and instead becomes a common cat by any other name, no different than Get Fuzzy’s Bucky, or worse, the godless bastard Heathcliff. In fact, insofar as Garfield-ness is inscribed from the feline personality model...

Chris Pratt voices the famous tabby cat Garfield, in a brand new animation. Here’s our The Garfield Movie review.
The 24th of May in the year of 2024 will be a lovely day. If 2023 was all about Barbenheimer – the weird, but wonderful combination of Barbie and Oppenheimer – 2024 is the year of… Garfuriosa.
We’ll work on the title, but The Garfield Movie and Furiosa, two very different films, are arriving in cinemas on the same day. The Garfield Movie, Mark Dindal’s family-friendly animated adventure may have fewer cars, less action and no fake noses, but there’s much to enjoy here, especially for the kiddos.
Naturally, the film follows the titular tabby (and a little tubby) cat, Garfield, talking in the voice of Chris Pratt here. He is abandoned by his father Vic (Samuel L Jackson) as a kitten, but he spies a lonely human, Jon (Nicholas Hoult) across the street,...

There’s something strange about the franchise reboot of the big orange tabby in The Garfield Movie. For one, the story completely sidelines the relationship between Jon Arbuckle and Garfield. Another issue is that all the characters are cardboard cutouts, and you know virtually nothing about them besides how Garfield came into Jon’s possession.
Perhaps most importantly, the trademark apathetic nature of the main character is non-existent. It’s as if the studios bought the brand name and turned the character into a clone of any fish-out-of-water animation adventure. That’s what’s wrong with The Garfield Movie. What makes the character great is washed away for a run-of-the-mill animated family film that you’ve seen nine lives over.
It’s purr-fectly predictable from start to its stagnant finish.

The lasagna-obsessed feline with a near-pathological aversion to Mondays, who first came into popular consciousness in the late ‘70s as a comic strip, is a diluted version of himself in “The Garfield Movie.” Not only is his suave apathy mostly replaced by an excessive excitedness with only sporadic glimpses of his endearingly negative qualities, but this Garfield jumps off trains, stages a heist, and is subjected to trite physical comedy by way of numerous predictable action sequences. The ordeal mimics a rehashed plot from the dull “The Secret Life of Pets” franchise with Garfield forcefully plugged in.
All of these choices amount to a production that fundamentally misunderstands Garfield’s appeal as a lovingly indifferent, self-centered glutton whose greatest aspiration is to do nothing and have all his needs catered to him. It’s a Garfield movie for audiences who have never heard of Garfield, which reads as an attempt...

The Garfield Movie is ringing in Monday — Garfield’s least favorite day — with a new action-packed trailer.
While the first trailer shared the wholesome story of how Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt) entered Jon’s (voiced by Nicholas Hoult) life, the latest preview gets to Garfield’s unexpected reunion with his biological dad, Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson).
Garfield’s life at home with Jon and Odie is “pretty near perfect” — that is, until he’s kidnapped by a massive pitbull and sent to Vic’s whereabouts. Vic enlists the help of Garfield and Odie, never mind that he hasn’t been there for his son since he was a kitten.
“I haven’t seen you for years and when I do, you’re on the run from a deranged cat,” Garfield points out. But he eventually agrees to help Vic out, with an adventure unlike anything the lasagna-loving cat has experienced.

A lasagna-loving feline is returning to the big screen next year. Sony Pictures released The Garfield Movie trailer Monday, giving fans their first look at Chris Pratt’s version of the beloved orange feline. The trailer begins with a hungry, wide-eyed young Garfield stumbling across a man sitting by himself in a pizza parlor. When the man invites him in, they end up sharing a bite of pizza — and if you know Garfield, you know it didn’t end there. The one bite leads to a montage of Garfield devouring the rest of the pie,...

Chris Pratt has traded in his plumber uniform for something with a little more fur in the first trailer for Columbia Pictures and Alcon Entertainment’s The Garfield Movie.
The famous lasagna-loving cat is back with Pratt as the man behind the whiskers in this nearly three-minute look (below) at the movie based on Jim Davis’ famous Garfield comic series.
The film sees Garfield, “the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat,” setting out on a wild, outdoor adventure following an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father, a scruffy street cat named Vic who’s voiced by Samuel L. The trailer teases a tail of an abandoned kitten fighting to survive on the streets until he sees Jon Arbuckle, a lonely man eating a pizza, through a restaurant window.

Ah, Mondays: the scourge of the workforce and of unemployed lasagna enthusiasts alike. Well, whichever category you fall into, this should help get your week off to a better start -- depending on your tolerance for Chris Pratt voicing animated roles that sound exactly like Chris Pratt, of course.
We can almost feel the marketing executives over at Sony rubbing their hands together at the irony of releasing the new trailer for "The Garfield Movie" on a Monday, by far the orange tabby cat's undisputed least favorite day of the week. The latest footage doesn't play up this Monday-hating aspect of his personality, however, as much as it does the origins of how he and Jon Arbuckle ended up crossing each other's paths (spoiler: it involves food), his love of lasagna, and, most surprisingly of all, the appearance of his long-lost father Vic ... voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, no less.

Chris Pratt’s plot to dominate the world of iconic characters continues in the wake of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” with the first trailer for “The Garfield Movie,” in which the “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor voices the titular gluttonous cat.
The trailer opens with something of a fake-out, as it sweetly chronicles the origin of Garfield and Andy’s relationship with the story of a lost little kitty cat who happens upon a lonely man at an Italian eatery. But soon after, shenanigans ensue, including those involving Garfield’s father Vic voiced by Samuel L. Jackson.
This is not the first time “Garfield” made the jump to the big screen. Bill Murray voiced the character in the 2004 film “Garfield: The Movie” and its sequel “A Tail of Two Kitties.”
The “Garfield” movie voice cast also includes Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nichoulas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein and Bowen Yang.

J.K. Simmons, Johnny Simmons (no relation), Brittany Snow and Jane Lynch are set to star in Kevin Pollak's comedy "The Late Bloomer" for Eclectic Pictures and Ineffable Pictures. Filming has begun in Los Angeles ahead of a shift to Bulgaria.
Based on Ken Baker's 2001 memoir "Man Made," the story follows the E! news correspondent's experience of going through puberty for the first time at age thirty after having a pituitary tumor removed.
The benign tumor rested against his pituitary gland and delayed his puberty and normal development. Though the tumor's removal restored him to hormonally normal masculinity, it resulted in him having to experience all the effects of puberty over an extremely condensed three-week period.
Johnny Simmons portrays the lead who works as a sex therapist in an office headed by Lynch's character. Snow portrays the girl next door, while J.K. Simmons and Bello play his suffocating parents.

After playing a villain on “Daredevil,” Vincent D’Onofrio is in talks to play the bad guy in Warner Bros.’ “CHiPS,” an individual with knowledge of the negotiations told TheWrap Tuesday. The film is an adaptation of the classic 1970s cop show of the same name. The NBC series, which ran from 1977 to 1983, followed the adventures of two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers. The big-screen version has already enlisted Dax Shepard and Michael Pena as beloved officers Jon Baker, played by Larry Wilcox, and Erik Estrada’s Frank Poncherello, respectively. Shepard is also directing and co-writing the screenplay after Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove wrote.

Dax Shepard and Michael Pena play the motorcycling police officers and best friends Jon Baker and Frank Poncherello who're trying to bust an exotic-car theft ring in the film.
D'Onofrio will play the ringleader, a ruthless former cop. Shepard directs from a script he co-wrote with Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove. Andrew Panay is producing.
D'Onofrio has been undergoing a career resurgence recently with "Daredevil" and turns in both the recent Liam Neeson thriller "Run All Night" and next month's "Jurassic World". Hot off his acclaimed turn as Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin in Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio has snagged yet another villainous role – this time in Warner Bros.’ adaptation of the classic TV series CHiPs.
Dax Shepard and Michael Pena will take on the lead roles of motorcycling buddy cops Jon Baker and Frank Poncherello, who come up against a big-time ring of exotic car thieves led by a ruthless former cop (D’Onofrio). Shepard is also directing the pic, having already written the script from previous drafts by Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove.
D’Onofrio is enjoying a second career wind thanks to the widespread acclaim his portrayal of the Daredevil villain has received. He spent a decade starring on Law and Order: Criminal Intent before that, but now his star is rising with a key role in this summer’s Jurassic World as well as...

He’s played a bad guy or two in his time, and he’s recently been burning up the small screen as nuanced threat Wilson Fisk in the Marvel/Netflix Daredevil series. So you can see why Dax Shepard might have picked Vincent D'Onofrio to play the villain in the new CHiPs movie.Word broke last September that Shepard had locked in a deal with Warner Bros. to write, direct and co-star in the film adapted from Rick Rosner’s cult TV series that saw Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox as dedicated, khaki-clad cops Frank “Ponch” Poncherrello and Jon Baker, who kept the mean streets of California’s highways safe from crime between 1977 and 1983. With Shepard taking over the Baker role and Michael Pena filling Ponch’s groin-troubling shorts, not much else has been revealed about the film’s angle, which is written by Shepard based on an earlier script...

Elijah Wood is currently a very busy man, not content with reprising his role as Frodo Baggins in at least one of the upcoming Hobbit movies in addition to his work on hit sitcom Wilfred, he is set to star in The Late Bloomer. The Late Bloomer which is dubbed as an indie comedy sees the star in the title role. The project is currently being written by Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove the latest draft of the script drafted originated from Mark Nussbaum which in turn was an adaptation of Ken Baker’s 2001 book Man Made: A Memoir Of My Body (still with me?) The plot follows a true tale of an almost 30 year-old man whose body goes through a very sudden amount of changes. (Which yes you’ve guessed it turns out that puberty hence the title) It seems it has been delayed by several years and now...

Though he'll be making a quick trip back to Middle Earth reprising his role of Frodo Baggins in a cameo in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, Elijah Wood has mostly shed his on-screen hobbit persona and has moved on to other projects. He's starring in the FX comedy series "Wilfred," plays a psycho killer in the remake of Maniac, and now has taken the lead role in a comedy called The Late Bloomer based on an amazing true story. He's also been busy on the business side of things, as Deadline reports the actor has formed a new production company called The Woodshed focusing on indie horror and genre films. Cool! Written by Joe Nussbaum and Paul Kaplan & Mark Torgove, The Late Bloomer is a true story based on Ken Baker's memoir about a man who is almost thirty years old when he realizes that he has a...

Elijah Wood is set to as the lead in the upcoming The Late Bloomer comedy which comes from director Randall Einhorn. That, my friends, sounds pretty cool at this moment, because we will finally have a chance to watch The Hobbit star as a man (close to age 30) who hadn’t yet totally undergone puberty. Cheers!
The Late Bloomer is based on the 2001 acclaimed memoir Man Made: A Memoir of My Body written by Ken Baker, while Joe Nussbaum and Paul Kaplan & Mark Torgove are on board to adapt that story for a big screen.
So, Wood will star in the true story of a man who found out at close to age 30 that he hadn’t yet totally undergone puberty but when the medical condition preventing it was removed, in several short, overwhelming weeks did so.

• Elijah Wood will put his boyish charm to interesting use in The Late Bloomer, a comedy about a man who learns right before he’s about to turn 30 that he hasn’t finished puberty. This isn’t a high-concept studio comedy, either: The indie production is based on Ken Baker’s real-life memoir Man Made: A Memoir of My Body. Randall Einhorn (who’s helmed just about every episode of Wood’s FX series Wilfred) will direct from a script by Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove (NBC’s Outsourced). [Variety]

Exclusive: ABC has put in development Between Park & Lex, a dramedy written by Maria Maggenti (Monte Carlo) and produced by ABC Studios and Ryan Reynolds and Allan Loeb’s DarkFire TV. As the title suggests, the hourlong dramedy is set in New York City. It centers on a mother and daughter who team up as amateur sleuths. Highlighting the complex dynamic and humor of a mother/daughter relationship, they balance their day jobs and regular lives with solving crimes on the side. Maggenti, Reynolds and Loeb executive produce with DarkFire’s two other principals, Jonathon Komack Martin and Steven Pearl. The project falls outside of Dark TV’s first-look deal at 20th Century Fox TV. Under that deal, the CAA-repped company recently set up two comedy projects at Fox: a live-action half-hour from writers Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay and an animated show from writers Mark Torgove & Paul Kaplan and Ash Brannon.

Both shows are produced by 20th Century Fox TV. This marks an early start for DarkFire’s second development season. DarkFire has been based at 20th Century Fox TV with a two-year overall deal. In its first development cycle last year, DarkFire sold two high-profile projects for Fox, live-action comedy Guidance, which received a put pilot commitment with Tyler Labine attached to star, and animated comedy And Then There Was Gordon, which is still in the works with a presentation order.

In May 2008, Warner Bros announced a feature film was being developed based on the Looney Tunes’ character Marvin the Martian. The live-action/CGI hybrid, scheduled for December 2010, is about how the cartoon alien travels to Earth to steal Christmas, but is foiled when he becomes trapped in a gift box.
The La Times’ Hero Complex is reporting Alex Zamm has come aboard as the director. Zamm is behind such gems as Dr. Dolittle 5: Million Dollar Mutts (I kid you not), Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2, and an upcoming adaptation of “Hong Kong Phooey.” Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove are re-writing the script (and also working on CHiPs: The Movie).
The team is already talking to stars who’ll add voices to the cartoons, and Mike Myers’ name has popped up as a possibility for Marvin.

It was announced [1] last year that a CG/live-action movie based on the popular Looney Tunes character Marvin the Martian was on its way to becoming a reality. At the time, the project was still in the very early stages of development, with no writer or director attached, but now this week we have an update courtesy of the L.A. Times [2]. Apparently the movie is still happening, with Warner Brothers and producer Alcon Entertainment eyeing a Christmas 2011 release date. The holiday release date is essential since the story revolves around Marvin the Martian coming to Earth to destroy Christmas. No word on whether or not any other Looney Tunes characters will be involved (I'm hoping his loyal dog K-9 will at least have a part), but they have named Alex Zamm (Chairman of the Board, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2) as the director. Oh good. The script will be written...

As much as I love Marvin the Martian, I'm not sure he's worth a feature film. In much the same way SNL sketches don't transfer to the big screen because the characters are designed to work for five minutes at a time, not 90. So a secondary cartoon character, one whose glory days are about 50 years old, may not be able to carry film, or open one, for that matter, which might be more important to Warner Bros.
The Los Angeles Times - a popular daily newspaper in southern California, if I'm not mistaken - says that the film has writers, Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove, who are also handling the script for a CHiPs movie, sure to have an Erik Estrada cameo. But the remake insanity doesn't end its connection to Marvin the Martian there. Hong Kong Phooey update director Alex Zamm has taken the reins on this film, too,...

A Marvin the Martian movie sounds like a good idea, probably. There is no cartoon character more underrated. Unfortunately, the film will also following the recent trend of CG character in a live action world, which might work for some movies in which humans exist, but Marvin also exists in his own fictionalized, cartoon universe, so it will stray far from its original roots. The crew doesn’t fill one with much hope, either. The La Times reports that Alex Zamm has signed on as the director, and he has to his credit films such as Inspector Gadget 2 and Dr. Doolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (a franchise so bad that even Eddie Murphy has vacated it). The writers are Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove, who have both worked on Spin City and George Lopez. Their upcoming writing project is a CHiPS remake. Supposedly Mike Myers could be approach to play the martian,...

Similar to Alvin and the Chipmunks, Marvin will be created using CGI and find himself in the company of a cast of live action actors. Warner Bros. and producer Alcon Entertainment have recruited Alex Zamm to direct and Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove to pen the script. My favourite reaction to this story is from /Film’s own Brendon Connelly, whose cynicism may sadly prove to be prophetic when the film is released at Christmas next year.

Alex Zamm ("Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2") has been set to direct the film adaptation of Looney Tunes classic character Marvin the Martian for Warner Bros. Pictures and Alcon Entertainment says The La Times.
Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove (TV's "Spin City") are penning the script about Marvin coming to Earth to try to destroy Christmas, only to find his plans are foiled when he gets trapped inside a gift box.
Marvin will be a CG character surrounded by live-action actors such as in films like "Garfield" and "Alvin & The Chipmunks", and a star will voice the character with Mike Myers apparently coming up as a candidate.
Zamm is also signed on to direct "Hong Kong Phooey," the film version of the 1970s Hanna Barbera cartoon which will probably not get underway until 'Marvin' is complete.
'Marvin' is currently aiming for a Holiday 2011 release.
