It’s a cool indie weekend when the new album by André 3000, New Blue Sun, has morphed into a “cinematic listening experience.” Variance Films is putting the experience, directed by Terence Nance, into three theaters in NYC (IFC Center), LA (Cinepolis Inglewood) and Atlanta (Tara).
Right now, it’s just those locations but after this weekend, “We will see what happens, where the wind takes us,” said Variance CEO Dylan Marchetti. “I swear, I wanted to make a ‘visual album’ but this is literally the way the wind blew me this time,” André has said.
Asked what’s is on the screen, Marchetti said, “Vibes.”
New Blue Sun, out today, is André’s debut solo album, his first full-length LP since his group Outkast released its last record 17 years ago. He described it as “an entirely instrumental album centered around woodwinds; a celebratory piece of work in the form of a living,...

If you’ve ever wanted to see Adam Sandler play a septuagenarian talking lizard, then Netflix’s new Leo trailer is for you. Check out the preview of the animated musical comedy ahead of its November 21st release date below.
In the film, Sandler stars as the titular 74-year-old lizard, who has shared a terrarium with a turtle named Squirtle (Bill Burr) in the same Florida classroom for decades. After learning he only has a year left to live, the jaded pet plots an escape to the outside world, but ends up bonding with the students in this year’s class instead after they find out he can talk. “This is a tough time, but these are the best years,” he tells one student.
Leo was directed by Robert Marianetti, David Wachtenheim, and Saturday Night Live alum Robert Smigel, the latter of whom co-wrote the movie with Sandler and Paul Sado.

Free the lizard!
Netflix animated “Leo” stars Adam Sandler as an elderly lizard living in a Florida classroom who decides to escape after being told he only has one year to live.
While the premise sounds endearingly wacky, writer-producer Sandler makes the animated film a family affair with daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler, plus wife Jackie Sandler, co-starring. Sunny Sandler recently led breakout Netflix teen film “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.”

In the NYPD Blue Season One episode “Tempest in a C-Cup,” cop Andy Sipowicz and prosecutor Sylvia Costas wind up on an impromptu dinner date. To call the occasion unexpected would be a wild understatement, as we were introduced to the characters at the very start of the series with a drunken, rampaging Sipowicz grabbing his crotch and calling Sylvia a “pissy little bitch.” But Andy is sober now, and Sylvia finds herself charmed by his company. After he tells her about the aquarium of saltwater tropical fish he keeps in his apartment,...

Let’s clarify that…Adam Sandler isn’t a lizard. Rather, Sandler voices a lizard with big dreams of escaping his ordinary life as a classroom pet in the animated musical comedy Leo.
Bill Burr provides the voice of Leo’s turtle sidekick. The voice cast also includes Cecily Strong, Jason Alexander, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Rob Schneider, and Jo Koy. Jackie Sandler, Heidi Gardner, Robert Smigel, Nick Swardson, Stephanie Hsu, and Nicholas Turturro also lend their voices to the family-friendly film.

Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming animated movie musical Leo, which sees the actor and comedian re-teaming with his daughters Sadie and Sunny in a film about an aging class pet who discovers he has just one year left to live.
Produced by Happy Madison and directed by Robert Marianetti, Robert Smigel and David Wachtenheim, Leo follows Sandler’s 74-year-old lizard who learns he doesn’t have much time left. As his Florida elementary school students prepare for their last year, Leo follows suit, deciding that his last year will be spent differently than his previous decades with terrarium-mate turtle (Bill Burr).
“I got a feeling this year’s gonna be different,” Leo says in the nearly minute-and-a-half first look. “Something big is going to happen.”

“Back to school. Back to school. Back to school.” It’s the end of the summer, and many are singing the back-to-school song that Adam Sandler once sang in his beloved classic, Billy Madison. Even Adam Sandler. Netflix has released the trailer for their newest animated original for the whole family, Leo. Sandler plays the titular Leo — the class pet lizard. Joining Sandler in an against-type of role is comedian Bill Burr, whose normal profanity-laced humor takes a break in lieu of family-friendly comedy. Here, Burr plays the class pet turtle who shares the terrarium with Leo.

"This year's gonna be different, something big's gonna happen..." Netflix has revealed a funny teaser trailer for animated movie called Leo, arriving for streaming this fall. Throughout Adam Sandler's deeply wide-ranging career, the talented actor has delivered some pretty wild performances that have ping-ponged from one extreme to the other. After his run through the '90s and early aughts included hits like "Happy Gilmore," "The Wedding Singer," and especially "Punch-Drunk Love," he more or less lapsed into autopilot mode with several undemanding comedies before roaring back to life with "Sandy Wexler," "The Meyerowitz Stories," and "Uncut Gems." Well, now audiences are about to see Sandler as they never have before: as a lizard.

Adam Sandler stars in a Netflix movie of a different sort in the first teaser trailer for the original animated film “Leo,” which he also co-wrote with longtime collaborator Robert Smigel.
Described as a “coming-of-age musical comedy,” Sandler voices a 74-year-old lizard who’s been stuck in the same Florida classroom for decades. When he discovers he only has one year left to live (grim stuff!), he plots an escape — only to get “caught up in the problems of his anxious students.”
The animated film was directed by the trio of Robert Marianetti, Robert Smigel and David Wachtenheim. The screenplay was written by Robert Smigel, Adam Sandler, Paul Sado. “Leo” was produced by Happy Madison.
“Leo” will be streaming on Netflix on Nov. 21, just in time for Thanksgiving.

Sin and Damnation – How Scott Derrickson’s Underrated ‘Hellraiser: Inferno’ Rises Above Expectations
At the recent Silver Scream Con, I was surprised to hear Hellraiser star Doug Bradley remark, “The only one in the series I feel doesn’t work is Inferno, for various reasons.” I had always considered the 2000 effort one of the franchise’s stronger offerings, but it had been a while since I revisited the series, so I thought it may not hold up as well as I remembered.
As I’m working my way through the series ahead of David Bruckner‘s reboot, which drops October 7 on Hulu, I can confirm my support for the fifth installment. I have no doubt that Bradley has his reasons for disliking the film – it being the first installment to be released straight to video no doubt required adjustments, not to mention his minuscule screen time as Pinhead – but, even with its shortcomings, I think Hellraiser: Inferno is better than he gives it credit for.

Denise Richards will team with “The Raid 2” star Arifin Putra for “Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace.” The film, which shoots in Los Angeles in August, is a sequel to 2020 action horror film “Angels Fallen.”
Ali Zamani, who directed the first film, and previously directed family comedy “C.I. Ape” and horror thriller “Incision,” will continue the franchise, typified by its metaphysical mania and muscle power. With Nicola Posener and Houston Rines in the lead roles, the first film also employed the services of veterans Michael Madsen, Eric Roberts and Nicholas Turturro.
In the sequel, the hero, Gabriel, rounds up his motley crew of demon slayers, styled as the ‘Warriors of Peace’ to fight an apocalypse-bound army of the dead. Richards’ character is a tough weapons expert charged with arming Gabriel’s crew. Michael Teh, Joshua Burdett, Lee Kholafai, Korrina Rico, Silvio Samic and Greg Canestrari round out the international principal cast.

The “Escape Room” sub-genre of horror seems to be picking up a bit of pace the last few years, coinciding with the popularity of real-life escape rooms. Personally, I haven’t been to one in real-life and the handful of movies I have seen based on them have ranged in quality, without any being outstanding. Is there a great movie with this basic story? Well, perhaps it has already been made because two of my favourite horror movies in Saw (2004) and Cube (1997) are basically escape room movies before that became a thing. It’s very hard to show any originality with these types of films but these two classics show you can, does Escape: Puzzle of Fear follow suit?

Spike Lee made his fourth film, “Mo’ Better Blues,” just over 30 years ago. Although less recognized than other titles in his oeuvre (“Do the Right Thing” was released in 1989), it was an evocative take on moody jazz films, minus the darkness and despair, and it proved an intriguing contrast to Lee’s more provocative titles.

In today’s film news roundup, Nicolas Cage’s “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” and indie drama “Shooting Heroin” get release dates, the “Big Fur” documentary finds distribution and Ezra Miller forms a production company.
Release Dates
Lionsgate has dated the Nicolas Cage movie “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” for March 19, 2021.
Tom Gormican is directing from a script he wrote with Kevin Etten. Cage will produce via his Saturn Films banner, alongside Mike Nilon and Kevin Turen.
Cage will play a version of himself as an actor who, in need of some money and creatively unfulfilled, begrudgingly accepts a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a Mexican billionaire super fan. When things take a wild turn, Cage is forced to live up to his own legend to extricate himself from an increasingly dangerous situation.

Exclusive: I hear that Bad Robot, through its new deal at Warner Media, is exclusively developing both film and TV ideas based on DC’s Justice League Dark universe at Warner Bros.
This deal is all very nascent and at this point in time there aren’t any specific projects or characters that are being specifically developed out of the franchise. I understand that Bad Robot’s Head of Motion Pictures Hannah Minghella and Head of Television Ben Stephenson will soon be taking meetings with talent reps and their writing clients on which characters will get their own projects.
Justice League Dark (or Jld team) first appeared in the September 2011 issue of Justice League Dark #1 featuring such superheros, mostly occult and offbeat, as John Constantine, mystic and fortune teller Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, the Changing Man, and Zatanna. The roster is much larger, and members joined later on, with Swamp Thing...

And just like that, Rollins' ordeal is over on Law & Order: Svu? Not quite. After all, this is Law & Order: Svu. Warning, spoilers follow. The Thursday, Jan. 9 episode of Svu, "Must Be Held Accountable," saw Kelli Giddish's character held hostage by Bucci (Nicholas Turturro), a former cop who was desperate for the squad to bring billionaire predator Getz (Vincent Kartheiser) to justice for what he did to his daughter. Rollins made it out of the ordeal relatively unscathed, at least physically, and the squad nailed Getz…who later offed himself in prison. But is he dead? "Personally, I don't believe conspiracy theories that much because I know how hard it is just to...
