A story about Jim Carrey might make him sound like a cheesy 1980s infomercial psychic telling you to "visualize it, dream it, attain it." But how Jim Carrey-esque of him, after all. Carrey exploded onto the scene in 1994 with "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective." But he'd been plugging away at comedy since the 1970s — first with standup and then small movie roles throughout the 1980s. His profile began to grow with a starring role on Fox's sketch show "In Living Color."
In 1994, Morgan Creek Entertainment put down 450,000 on a lottery ticket with Carrey as the lead in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective." It was a gamble, as some thought Carrey's over-the-top style might not work. Spoiler alert: It did.
Morgan Creek Entertainment cashed in their lotto ticket to the tune of 100 million at the box office, and Carrey became a bona fide Hollywood A-lister. He had a string of hits including "The Mask...

Exclusive: Spectrum Originals will not be proceeding with a second season of its drama series Long Slow Exhale, set in the world of women’s college basketball. The decision comes a month and a half after the show, starring Rose Rollins and Josh Lucas, ended its Season 1 run on the service.
TV Series Cancellations 2022: Photo Gallery
Paramount TV Studios, which produces Long Slow Exhale, is working with series creator Pam Veasey to explore options for keeping the series going, I hear. Currently, after a nine-month exclusive run on Spectrum, Long Slow Exhale is set for a second window on Paramount TV Studios corporate sibling BET. It is unclear whether the Paramount cable network would be interested in continuing with the series; its brass may want to wait and see how Season 1 performs on BET but a Season 2 decision will likely have to be made prior to that by the studio.

Spectrum has canceled “LA’s Finest” after two seasons, TheWrap has confirmed. The show’s second season premiered last month.
A spinoff of the “Bad Boys” film series, “L.A.’s Finest” featured Gabrielle Union reprising her role as Syd Burnett from 2003’s “Bad Boys II.” Now an LAPD detective, Syd is paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Jessica Alba). Alba and Union are executive producers on the series alongside Brandon Margolis, Brandon Sonnier, Pam Veasey, Doug Belgrad, Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed, Jeff Gaspin, Jeff Morrone and pilot director Anton Cropper.
The show’s second season was originally scheduled to premiere in June, but Spectrum postponed that to September in response to the wave of protests that erupted nationwide in response to the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer on Memorial Day.
The first season of “L.A.’s Finest” is currently airing on Fox.

Spectrum has opted not to order a third season of cop drama L.A.’s Finest, an offshoot from the Bad Boys movie franchise headlined by Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, I have learned.
The decision comes a little over a month after the show’s second season launched on the platform. Spectrum had no comment.
Season 2 was originally scheduled to premiere on June 8, but was pushed to September amid the George Floyd protests against police brutality. All 13 episodes were released at once on September 9 as a weekly air pattern for Season 1.
The first season of L.A.’s Finest is currently airing on Fox, which acquired the series for its fall schedule that was impacted by the pandemic-related production shutdown. It got off to a solid ratings start though the numbers have slipped since.

Regina King is set to executive produce a drama series currently in development at The CW, Variety has confirmed.
Titled “Slay,” the series focuses on Carson Jones. She is described as a bold, witty teenager with afro puffs, leather boots, seventies cool, and – thanks to her mother’s ancient African bloodline – supernatural gifts and the responsibility to use them to protect Virginia’s Historic Triangle (one of the most haunted areas in the country) from the forces of darkness.
Julian Johnson will write and co-executive produce, with Pam Veasey supervising and executive producing. Regina and her sister Reina King will executive produce via their production company, Royal Ties. CBS Television Studios will produce.
Regina is fresh off her Emmy win for her starring role in the HBO limited series “Watchmen.” It marked the fourth Emmy of her career, having previously won twice for “American Crime” and again for “Seven Seconds.

Exclusive: The CW is developing Slay, a drama executive produced by Oscar and Emmy winner Regina King.
Written by Julian Johnson with former CSI: NY showrunner Pam Veasey supervising, Slay centers on Carson Jones, a bold, witty teenager with afro puffs, leather boots, seventies cool, and – thanks to her mother’s ancient African bloodline – supernatural gifts and the responsibility to use them to protect Virginia’s Historic Triangle (one of the most haunted areas in the country) from the forces of darkness.
Regina King and her sister, Reina King, executive produce through their company Royal Ties Prods. Veasey also executive produces while Johnson co-executive produces. CBS Studios is the studio.
Slay reunites Regina King and Veasey. Two years ago, King made her pilot directing debut with the ABC drama pilot The Finest, about five African-American sisters, all officers in the NYPD, which was written by Veasey. Both also executive produced together.

Slay reunites Regina King and Veasey. Two years ago, King made her pilot directing debut with the ABC drama pilot The Finest, about five African-American sisters, all officers in the NYPD, which was written by Veasey. Both also executive produced together.

Spectrum Originals has delayed the season 2 premiere of “L.A.’s Finest” amid the nationwide protests against police brutality and systemic racism.
The “Bad Boys” spinoff was scheduled to return for its sophomore season on Monday with its first three episodes available, but has instead decided to push it back until later 2020, the network confirmed to TheWrap.

Last week, A&e pulled new episodes of “Live Pd” from its schedule that were supposed to air over the weekend.

Exclusive: Orlando Jones has booked a recurring role opposite Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba in the second season of Spectrum’s L.A.’s Finest.
This is Jones’ first TV series casting following his two seasons on Starz’s American Gods as trickster god Anansi, aka Mr. Nancy. Jones made headlines recently, claiming he was fired ahead of Season 3 and alleging racial bias. Series producer Fremantle has insisted that Jones was not fired, but that the company decided not to pick up a third-season option on his contract because of the narrative focus of the upcoming season.
Union, who made her own headlines late last year with her controversial firing from the Fremantle-produced NBC reality series America’s Got Talent, triggering an investigation, was among the first to reach out to Jones after he revealed his ouster from American Gods on social media.

Actress Isabella Gomez claims she started receiving less auditions once it became known she was Latina after starring as Elena Alvarez in “One Day at a Time.”
“It’s interesting because I am white passing. So, when I got here people didn’t know I was Latina. I was going out all the time, getting call backs all the time. Then I booked ‘One Day at a Time’ — which thank God. But, then people found out I was Latina. And then, the auditions dwindled and people don’t want to see me as much,” Gomez said at the Nalip Diverse Women In Media panel in Los Angeles, Calif. Thursday night.
Gomez continued to say that it has been an interesting transition, dealing with the fact that she “was getting accepted” as a teenager working in this business. But as she got older, on “such a common Latinx show,” she started to experience more rejection.

L.A.’s Finest, the female-led TV spinoff of the Bad Boys movies, will get another season on streaming platform Spectrum Originals.
L.A.’s Finest will see stars Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba continue their City of Angels-set buddy cop comedy for a second season.
Spectrum Originals, the Charter Communications-owned small screen platform on which L.A.’s Finest streams on demand, has officially renewed the series for Season 2. It’s a rather quick turnaround for the show – a spinoff of the Bad Boys films of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence – having only debuted on May 13, utilizing a rather unique release strategy of dropping a few episodes a week, rather than conventional strategies of weekly episodes or the Netflix full-season binge-dump. Indeed, the first season of L.A.’s Finest will premiere the last of its 13-episode run on Monday, June 17.

Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba are coming back for more action.
The pair’s cop show “L.A.’s Finest” has been renewed for a second season by Spectrum Originals, despite the 13-episode first season being largely panned by critics and enduring a major on-set accident.
“L.A.’s Finest,” the first show to launch on the cable provider’s on-demand platform, is a “Bad Boys” spinoff starring Union as a police detective with a complicated past who relocates to Los Angeles from Miami and finds an odd-couple partner in Alba. Union’s role is a revival of the Syd Burnett character she played in the 2003 Sony blockbuster “Bad Boys II.”
The Sony Pictures TV and Charter Communications co-production had to shut down in February when co-showrunners and EPs Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier were involved in an on-set accident involving a stunt car and a metal shipping container. They...

“L.A.’s Finest” isn’t just a cop show. It’s a gambit — a bet placed by cable provider Spectrum that by providing not just access to HBO and Hgtv but original programming of its own, it’ll stand out. The series, a Jerry Bruckheimer production set within the universe of his “Bad Boys” film franchise, is the beginning of a stream of on-demand Spectrum Originals programming that will also include, eventually, a comeback for “Mad About You.”
The idea of providing some added value to subscribers through original programming is a reasonable enough one (why not get in a game with so many players already?). But this particular show seems ill-suited to its format: Meant to live on an on-demand platform, this drama seems oddly unlikely to have been specifically demanded by anyone at all. A tonally disastrous half-comedy, half-melodrama about policing that draws in cartel politics and family angst,...

A year ago, Charter Communications’ new original content division headed by Katherine Pope made its first major programming move, picking up L.A.’s Finest as the maiden series for Charter’s platform Spectrum Originals. The Sony Pictures TV/Bruckheimer TV-produced drama starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, an offshoot from the Bad Boys movie franchise, started as a pilot at NBC last season, with Charter stepping in after the pilot did not go to series at the broadcast network.
Since then, Pope and her team have commissioned several other series including a Mad About You follow-up limited series with original stars Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt; an Atlanta Olympics bombing-centered second installment of the true-crime series Manhunt, whose first season, Unabomber, aired on Discovery; and British racing drama co-production Curfew.

“My phone hasn’t rung yet,” Gabrielle Union said when asked about a potential crossover with the Martin Lawrence-Will Smith film Bad Boys and its television spinoff L.A.’s Finest.
“Luckily, I’m busy here and they’re busy filming [Bad Boys for Life],” she said during today’s TCA visit to the set of the Spectrum Originals series. “It would be awesome. I guess we have to check our budget and see if we can afford for them to do a cameo. Obviously, the Bad Boys universe exists, so we can have these Avengers-type moments where we can all be together. … The door is always open for them. Hopefully, the door is open for me in [Bad Boys for Life]. We’ll see.”
