In 1948, tickets to the Met Gala were $50 apiece. In 2024, a single entry fee for the exclusive social event was about $75,000. Despite the high cost, celebrities, designers, and the who’s who of NYC and beyond shell out for the gala, which benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Since the ’70s, the annual affair has attracted household names wearing the most haute couture fashions — always adhering to the chosen theme. See some of the most out-there and iconic guests and looks at the Met Gala over the years.

The summer of 1997 was meant to be the beginning of Princess Diana’s new life. As a still fairly recent divorcee (her marriage with then-Prince Charles ended the year before), she spoke to Vanity Fair in June for what would become her last official interview.
At the same time, the famous auction house Christie’s was cataloging some of her most famous gowns to go under the gavel (with all proceeds benefiting charities), and it was clear to everyone in the room that the auction was more than a symbolic move: Diana was free—”free of the restrictions that she had before,” as her friend Rosa Monckton put it.
No one seemed more aware than Diana herself. The late Meredith Etherington-Smith, then the group creative marketing director for the auction house, shared that the Princess of Wales asked to work with a photographer who was new to her because she wanted new everything.

We’ve all heard about Princess Diana‘s revenge dress and the message she was trying to send to her soon-to-ex-husband and his then-mistress when she wore it in 1994. But according to a royal author who was friends with the late princess, there was another dress Diana was seen in years earlier that she rocked to make Charles’ lover (formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles) go “insane.”
How Princess Diana taunted Camilla with a simple blue dress
Former diarist and magazine editor Tina Brown was friends with the late royal and even met with Diana a few weeks before her death in 1997. Brown, who wrote The Diana Chronicles and also authored the book The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor — The Truth and the Turmoil, revealed the princess’s intention with a simple blue polyester dress.

Donatella Versace criticized the Italian government for new anti-lgbtq laws that restrict same-sex couple’s rights during her speech at the Cnmi Sustainable Fashion Awards at Milan’s Fashion Week.
Versace spoke in support of the LGBTQ community and stated, “Our government is trying to take away people’s rights to live as they wish, they are restricting our freedoms.”
She continued, “The freedom to walk down the street with our heads held high and without fear, regardless of identity. The freedom to build a family and live as one wishes. The freedom to love whom one wishes. We all have to fight for freedom.”
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who started his position last year, has recently enacted multiple laws limiting the rights of the LGBTQ community. These include policies that forbid two same-sex partners from registering as the parents of a child and a ban on couples to hiring surrogates.

You know their names: Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, and Christy Turlington. The supermodel quartet reached instant fame and held the fashion industry in the palm of their hands in the Nineties. To filmmaker Roger Ross Williams, they were the first influencers with indelible power, photographed globally and enamored by millions.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell is opening up about her use of cocaine to deal with her depression.
“Grief had been a very strange thing in my life because it doesn’t always [show],” Campbell said in the new AppleTV+ documentary The Super Model. “I go into a shock and freak out when it actually happens, and then later is when I break. But I kept the sadness inside, I just dealt with it.”
The grief in her life most notably came from her abandonment issues as a child and the death of her close friend, Gianni Versace.
When speaking on her childhood abandonment, Campbell said, “There’s a lot of issues that I have from childhood. Well, for instance, not knowing your father, not seeing your mother. That brings up a lot of — it manifests a lot of feelings. One of those feelings, absolutely is anger. It’s a manifestation of a deeper issue,...

Though beauty is subjective, some images, portraits and spaces are so exquisite that they become timeless, forever solidified in the imagination of popular culture. The perfect image brings in consumers. Since advertising began, models have always held a place in society. Yet, during the late ’80s and the ’90s, one group of models transcended fashion to become icons.
In the new Apple TV+ docuseries “The Super Models,” co-directors Roger Ross Williams and Larissa Bills examine the careers of legends Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington. Four very different women from varied backgrounds began their journeys as teens, later leaping off the pages of magazines and onto global runways. As they became more powerful and recognized outside the fashion industry — even as society started to press back against unrealistic beauty standards — they learned to speak up for themselves and each other during an era in which women were still tethered to silence.

Naomi. Cindy. Christy. Linda. You don’t have to be a fashionista to know four of the most recognizable models to ever strut down the runway. In the four-part docuseries, The Super Models, exec producers Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Christy Turlington share their humble career beginnings in the 1980s and their rise in the industry that made them arguably more famous than the brands, like Calvin Klein and Revlon, with which they were associated. “It had been a dream of the four women to collectively tell their stories because they thought any one of them has an amazing [tale],” says Roger Ross Williams, who directs with Larissa Bills. (Credit: Apple TV+) Through extensive footage and new interviews, the quartet reveal basking in their fame was of less interest than elevating the industry’s perception of women, and their own philanthropy efforts to help others. “We looked powerful, and...

Actor John Travolta returned to television decades after his breakout role in the TV sitcom Welcome Back Kotter. But his decision to revisit the small screen was heavily inspired by a conversation he had with two moguls in the entertainment industry.
John Travolta wrestled with being on this hit Ryan Murphy show John Travolta | Jason Laveris/FilmMagic
Travolta was cast in Ryan Murphy’s hit FX television series People vs. O.J. Simpson. The American Crime story was a dramatic retelling of the O.J. Simpson trial with Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding Jr. as the titular figure. Travolta would portray American attorney Robert Shapiro in the mini-series.
The series’ creator Ryan Murphy wanted to use inspired casting for his show, which landed him Travolta. The pair would eventually meet to discuss the show.
“I was trying to do the unexpected piece of casting,” Murphy recalled in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Plot: The true story of an actress (Anna Kendrick) who, in the seventies, went on The Dating Game and was matched with Rodney Alcala (Daniel Zovatto), who was later revealed to be a serial killer that may have murdered up to 130 women.
Review: The story behind Woman of the Hour is pretty wild, even as far as true crime goes. While the movie takes several significant liberties with her story, a young actress named Cheryl Bradshaw really did go on The Dating Game in 1978 and chose serial killer Rodney Alcala as her match. While the premise is thin, as there wasn’t much to Bradshaw’s interactions with Alcala beyond the show, Anna Kendrick, who makes her directorial debut from a Black List script by Ian MacAllister McDonald, has put together a chilling film.
Much of the film enters around Alcala’s murder spree, focusing on the young women he...

A version of this story about the hairstyling of “Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” first appeared in the Limited Series/Movies issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
One of the great ironies of Jeffrey Dahmer’s existence is that while his apartment stank of, in his words, “rotting meat” (we all know what it really was), his physical appearance was initially anything but shabby. He even had a tidy blond hairdo, which Evan Peters wears as the cannibal serial killer in producer Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” for Netflix.
“If you look at a lot of pictures, there were times where Dahmer had darker hair and times that he had these blond highlights and you’re trying to figure out where did these highlights come from?” hair department head Shay Sanford-Fong said. “But a lot of it is in Ryan’s research: When he was in jail,...

In the spring of 2020, a handful of shows developed to air on the basic cable channel FX instead debuted exclusively on Hulu. It was an attempt to better integrate different parts of the Disney corporate family in the aftermath of Disney acquiring most of Fox’s film and television assets, as well as an acknowledgment that more and more viewers were waiting to watch shows on streaming. Cutting out the legacy media middleman just seemed like a logical next step toward the medium’s future.
It was also, however, extremely confusing.

Monday night’s Met Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art was a bonafide lovefest for Karl Lagerfeld, whose work is showcased in the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, opening Friday.
With some Met Gala themes, the sartorial choices can be a tad all over the place, and decidedly rooted in causing a social-media frenzy. While the latter was certainly true with several looks (hello, Jared Leto), the overall vibe Monday evening was rooted in paying tribute not only to the many, many designs Lagerfeld produced during his six-decade career but also to the elements that defined the man himself and the design codes he happily embraced within the iconic houses he famously oversaw.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, the Academy Awards red carpet underwent a sea change. During the nascent era of the celebrity stylist, fearless stars not only began donning high-end designer labels (like awards show pioneer Armani) but also flouted traditional Oscar dress-code decorum in new ways, sometimes inviting the wrath of prevailing critics.
Among the looks that shook things up — and made an indelible impression on fashion and pop culture — were Sharon Stone’s proto-high-low dressing, Jada Pinkett Smith’s sensational two-piece set, actresses in one-of-a-kind vintage looks and a still controversial aughties affectation (the whale tail).
Nearly three decades later, the influence of the era’s Oscar red carpet can be seen all over the TikTok generation, Fall 2023 runways and, yes, once again on recent awards-season red carpets.

Crime shows can take on many forms. There are procedurals, shows like "Homicide: Life on the Streets" and "Law and Order" (and its endless spin-offs), and then, there are the gritty masterclass dramas, shows like "The Wire" and "The Sopranos." Some favor the process, some the outcome, though all abound with the kind of detached criminal activity audiences fervently eat up. Just look at "Breaking Bad's" 16 Emmy wins.

The John and Jane Does of crime shows, the ones that, for one reason or another, never quite found their audience. Whether they were canceled too soon, premiered during "Game of Thrones'" triumphant reign, or featured a misstep or two that alienated huge swaths of their audiences,...

Édgar Ramírez will star in the second season of “Dr. Death,” Peacock announced Tuesday.
Ramírez will play Paolo Macchiarini, an Italian surgeon who became known for his research into innovative organ transplants, gaining the nickname “Miracle Man,” before accusations of research fraud and unethical experiments destroyed his career. The season will focus on the investigations from fellow researchers into Macchiarini’s surgeries, as well as his relationship with journalist Benita Alexander.
A true crime anthology series, “Dr. Death” is based on a Wondery podcast that explores severe cases of medical malpractice, frequently resulting in the deaths of patients. Season 2 adapts the third season of the podcast, which was released last year. Season 1 of the Peacock series was released last year and starred Joshua Jackson as Christopher Duntsch, a Texas neurosurgeon convicted of maiming and killing 33 patients over the course of his career. Ryan Murphy has built his TV brand on stories of American horror and crime, and it doesn't get much more horrifying than the crimes of Jeffrey Dahmer. In "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," Murphy and co-creator Ian Brennan have turned their gaze on the infamous real-life serial killer who murdered 17 men and boys over a 13-year period from 1978 to 1991. Evan Peters, who has appeared in almost every season of "American Horror Story," plays Dahmer in the upcoming Netflix miniseries, which has just released its first trailer.
We've seen Murphy lend his name as an executive producer and director to "American Crime Story" as it tackled the O. J. Simpson trial, the assassination of fashion designer Gianni Versace, and most recently, the Bill Clinton–Monica Lewinsky impeachment scandal. But "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" takes things to a new level where subject matter is concerned. Dahmer's crimes involved cannibalism and necrophilia,...

Donatella Versace is still reeling over the death of her brother, Gianni Versace. The highly-anticipated premiere of Star Trek: Picard Season 2 drops on Thursday, March 3, and Paramount+ has done a stellar job building the hype for its sophomore offering.
There has been eager anticipation for the return of some familiar Star Trek: The Next Generation faces, but much of the credit for the show securing a second season goes to the actors who played the newcomers on Star Trek: Picard Season 1.
Isa Briones as Soji (and Dahj and Sutra and Jana) was the catalyst for Star Trek: Picard's inaugural adventure. Evan Evagora, the Qowat Milat-trained Romulan refugee orphan Elnor, and Santiago Cabrera as La Sirena's Captain Rios (and all his holo-crew) impressed and excited Trek fans, both new and old, with their skills in action, comedy, and drama.
Through the magic of technology, Cabrera, Briones, and Evagora spoke with TV Fanatic and other press outlets over a virtual roundtable, sharing their thoughts...

Spoiler alert: This column contains light spoilers about the Nov. 2 episode titled “The Grand Jury.”
On the penultimate episode of “Impeachment: American Crime Story,” Monica Lewinsky (Beanie Feldstein) closes her testimony before the grand jury in the Clinton perjury case by tearfully declaring “I hate Linda Tripp.” The jury, which had begun its service in an adversarial position and asked Lewinsky some tough questions, has fallen for her: “I know, that’s right,” declares an unseen juror. “Forget her!” What sounds like a second voice says, “What goes around comes around.”
The “American Crime Story” franchise hasn’t been shy about a certain narrative gaudiness in the past. But this strikes the viewer as, finally, too much. That Lewinsky actually said this is a matter of historical record. Whether or not they really did, the jurors rooting for her represents one more instance of the show throwing its narrative power behind one character.

With the 2021 Emmys in the rear view and the Fall television season is in full swing, what better time is there to look forward and make a few bold predictions about what we might see being honored when the Emmys roll around again come September of 2022?
If this sounds like fool’s folly, think again. The Television Academy actually starts official screenings and “campaign” season right after the first of the year, and already there are a number of logical contenders rolling out. In fact even now at the beginning of October, I have already found the show I will vote for in the all-important Outstanding Limited Series category.
Say what?
That is because I was — and am — among the many who found HBO’s summer series, The White Lotus simply irresistible.

It’s been so long since FX’s American Crime Story debuted (Obama was still president!) that it’s easy to forget how much trepidation surrounded that first season, The People v. O.J. Simpson. The O.J. trial was a circus at the time it unfolded. Producer Ryan Murphy’s track record seemed even more fragile in 2016 than it does now, circa the death rattle of Glee and misfires like Scream Queens. And the casting felt odd in so many places: David Schwimmer as Kim Kardashian’s dad? John Travolta...

TV docudramas always walk a fine line between illumination and exploitation. But American Crime Story‘s first installment, The People v. O.J. Simpson, broke the mold by doing the impossible: It gave us a fresh perspective on a story we thought we already knew so well. It had depth, it had nuance, it made us rethink the legacies of infamous media pariahs… and I say all that to emphasize that Impeachment: American Crime Story does none of this.
Despite its lofty pedigree, Impeachment is a disaster: a schlocky, overheated melodrama that’s only a degree or two removed from a Saturday Night Live parody.

“American Crime Story: Impeachment,” the third installment of the FX anthology series, is set to debut the first of its 10 episodes September 7, and it’s sure to create a firestorm. This season will focus on “the Clinton Affair,” the 1998 scandal in which former President Bill Clinton lied under oath about a sexual relationship with intern Monica Lewinsky, triggering impeachment proceedings. Bill and Hillary Clinton have both addressed the scandal many times, but having these events dramatized will likely summon up a media stir they’d both prefer to avoid. So have they expressed any feelings about the show?

“Impeachment,” the latest outing in FX’s evolving “American Crime Story” universe, charts the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal that rocked the nation in the 1990s. In the limited series debuting on September 7, “Booksmart” star Beanie Feldstein plays Monica Lewinsky opposite an unrecognizable Clive Owen as Bill Clinton, with Sarah Paulson, Annaleigh Ashford, Margo Martindale, Edie Falco, Billy Eichner, and Cobie Smulders rounding out the cast as the various figures involved in the controversy. Cobie Smulders will now play Ann Coulter in “Impeachment: American Crime Story” after Betty Gilpin, who was originally set in the role, exited the cast due to scheduling complications during the pandemic.
Smulders is the newest addition to the cast of this season. This news comes just after FX released the official trailer on Wednesday.
