Besides the skillfully adapted screenplay, the I, Robot cast played a huge role in the movie’s success. Although several Isaac Asimov fans criticized the movie when it was released, I, Robot became one of the century’s best films on Artificial Intelligence and robotics. Jeff Vintar, who worked on the earlier screenplay and story, based it on Isaac Asimov’s short-story collection. Set in 2035, I, Robot showed a more relatable and functional future use of robots and AI. Detective Del Spooner is called to investigate the alleged suicide of Alfred Lanning, co-founder of U.S. Robotics. With a natural distrust and disgust

The Hot Zone, starring Golden Globe and Emmy award winner Julianna Margulies as Dr. Nancy Jaax, is based on the eponymous international best-seller by Richard Preston. It is inspired by a true story about the origins of Ebola, a highly infectious and deadly virus from the central African rainforest and its arrival on Us soil in 1989. When this killer suddenly appeared in monkeys in a scientific research lab in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., there was no known cure. A heroic U.S. Army scientist (Dr. Nancy Jaax) working with a secret military specialized team put her life on the line to head off the outbreak before it spread to the human population. The Hot Zone is a dramatic, high-stakes scientific thriller with a courageous, brilliant and determined heroine at its center. The day might be near when it will be news if an upcoming TV series doesn’t have a podcast to go along with it. For now, add Nat Geo’s “The Hot Zone” to the growing list of series enlisting some audio companionship. The story, which tells of Lt. Col. Nancy Jaax’s (Julianna Margulies) efforts to contain the Ebola virus after its first appearance on American soil, also will be addressed in “American Epidemics,” a Wondery audio series produced in conjunction with the TV show.
Lindsay Graham, the podcast host behind “American History Tellers” and the presidential-themed fiction series “Terms” and “1865,” will head up this new series, which will span three episodes. The second episode of “American Epidemics” will focus on the production of “The Hot Zone,” featuring interviews with Margulies and showrunners Kelly Sounders and Brian Peterson.
“American Epidemics” premieres May 10, with new episodes debuting every Friday.

Kelly Souders was “terrified” after reading “The Hot Zone,” Richard Preston Jr.‘s nonfiction bestseller about an Ebola outbreak outside of Washington, D.C. Souders adapted the book into a limited series with her producing partner Brian Peterson and Jeff Vintar, casting Julianna Margulies as the military doctor who works to keep the deadly virus from spreading before it’s too late. Watch our exclusive video interview with Souders and Peterson above.
See Julianna Margulies interview: ‘The Hot Zone’
Souder was intrigued by the story of Dr. Nancy Jaax and her husband, Dr. Jerry Jaax (Noah Emmerich), who’s a fellow soldier. “Obviously, a woman in the military in 1989 was of particular interest to us,” she reveals. Nancy is doubted at every turn, including, at times, by her own spouse, who puts himself in dangerous situations to protect her even though she’s fully prepared to look out for herself.

With the Ebola virus dominating news headlines worldwide, it was only a matter of time until Hollywood dug its heels in on turning the hot-button topic into a full-blown series. Recently, producer Lynda Obst (Interstellar) and director-producer Ridley Scott (Gladiator) announced that they’ll be creating a limited series for Fox TV Studios, adapted from Richard Preston’s 1994 nonfiction bestseller The Hot Zone.
Obst and Scott optioned Preston’s book two decades ago and never abandoned the project, tapping Jeff Vintar (I, Robot) to adapt The Hot Zone into what was originally envisioned as a film for Scott to direct. Now that the recent outbreak – the deadliest on record – has made the virus extremely timely, the pair feel that it’s high time to push ahead with the adaptation, though the project will now take the form of a TV miniseries. Obst said of the decision:

We have a look at some of the more obscure comic book movie ideas which nearly made it to the big screen…
We've recently been investigating the pile of nearly-made-its in the ever-growing world of cinematic comic book adaptations. You could be forgiven for thinking Hollywood will strap wads of cash to any old comic book writer who stumbles past their door, but so far we’ve written approximately 5,000 words that say otherwise.
First, we delved into DC’s chequered past and found heaps of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman projects that we’ll sadly never get to see (and some other projects we’re quite glad we’ll never have to sit through). We then did the same for Marvel, unearthing plans for a Paul McCartney Silver Surfer rock opera, James Cameron’s bizarre Spider-Man script ideas and an amazingly-cast Dazzler animation from the 1980s.

Holy crap! I seriously can't believe this is happening! Stephen King's 1987 fantasy novel The Eyes of the Dragon is one of my favorite books of all time. This is one of those books I read over and over again when I was a kid. I've always wanted to see it get a big-screen adaptation, but a TV miniseries will be just as good for me!
The project is set up over at the SyFy Channel, and it's being scripted by Michael Taylor (Battlestar Galactica) and Jeff Vintar (I, Robot). These TV miniseries are hit and miss for SyFy, but they have an obligation to knock this one out of the park. They need to do whatever it takes to turn this classic book into an incredibly epic miniseries.

Like most horror freaks of a certain age (and younger), I grew up on a steady diet of Stephen King horror novels. (Yes, also Clive Barker and Robert McCammon, but we're getting off-base here.) But then in 1987 I grabbed his latest book, which was a fantasy story that Mr. King wrote for his daughter, Tabitha. It was (and still is) called The Eyes of the Dragon, and it's a book I've re-read at least three times over the years. According to Entertainment Weekly's Inside TV, the adaptation will be penned by Michael Taylor and Jeff Vintar (I, Robot, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within). Mr. Taylor has written for just about every science-fiction TV series out there, plus he does have some experience with Kingly adaptations: he produced and wrote several episodes of the...

Stephen King’s Eyes Of The Dragon is coming to SyFy in the near future, as either a TV series or TV movie, according to Shock Till You Drop. With the success of Game Of Thrones and the return of Middle-Earth on the horizon, fantasy is back in the limelight. Written in 1987, the book has all the staples of fantasy lore you need: kings, towers, murder and presumably, dragons. Most King fans have been waiting for news on Roland and the tower for a long time, but unfortunately, this is a different story. Stephen King likes his towers and characters named Roland. Michael Taylor and Jeff Vintar (writer for I, Robot) are tasked with the adaptation that should have a killer logo, if they model it after the above book cover.

Entertainment Weekly report that Stephen King's bestselling Fantasy novel Eyes Of The Dragon has been optioned for either a movie or miniseries at SyFy. The script will be written by Michael Taylor (Battlestar Galactica) and Jeff Vintar (I, Robot). Dragon is a standalone novel, but does overlap into some of King's other works, most notably with the villain of the piece - an evil entity who has appeared (or at least, an aspect of him) in The Stand and The Dark Tower saga. In Dragon the character is known as Flagg (other incarnations are Randall Flagg, Walter O'Dim, The Man In Black, The Walkin Dude etc), an evil magician of the King's court. The novel's setting, Delain, is also mentioned in The Dark Tower. It seems with the popularity of HBO's Game Of Thrones, other networks are hoping to get in on the Fantasy action. If this is done...

News have come thorough via The Hollywood Reporter that Sin Nombre director Cary Fukunaga (currently winning plaudits for his adaptation of the Emily Bronte classic, Jane Eyre) will be working within a very different genre for his next feature. The American filmmaker will direct sci-fi thriller, Spaceless, for Universal, and will also rewrite the screenplay based off the original spec by Jeff Vintar (one of the screenwriters from i, Robot).
It’s a trippy, reality-bending tale of an assassin in space who awakens to find himself deep in the galaxy, having no recollection of what happened since breaking into the space station where he was to perform his hit. Alone (and with a limited air supply), he must try to solve the mystery of his death.

Talk about a guy who’s not afraid of a change in genre. In an interesting feature film choice, director Cary Fukunaga will be following up his last directorial outing of Jane Eyre with Universal’s sci-fi film, Spaceless. Fukunaga debuted onto the film scene with an award-winning immigration drama called Sin Nombre. Choosing period drama Jane Eyre after that seems like a left turn but Fukunaga does not seem afraid to switch things up.
THR reported that Fukunaga will be directing Spaceless with Gore Verbinski producing through his company BlindWink Productions and Jeff Vintar. Vintar had written the original spec script to the project. Fukunaga is to rewrite the screenplay for the film.
Check out a synopsis to Spaceless:
The story centres on an assassin who wakes up inside a spacesuit tumbling helplessly through space, with a computer designed to keep him company until his air runs out.

Jane Eyre director makes logical step from period drama to film about space-age assassin
Cary Fukunaga is to follow up his forthcoming big-screen take on Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre with a science-fiction thriller about a hitman tumbling through space, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Spaceless, based on an original screenplay by Jeff Vintar, has Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski on board as producer and has been green-lit by Universal Studios. It concerns an assassin who wakes to find himself floating through space in a suit that is running out of air, fitted with a computer designed to keep him company until he expires. The last thing he remembers is breaking into a space station to carry out a hit, but is he really about to die? Could he be trapped in an artificial reality or simply experiencing the effects of madness?

Cary Fukunaga has quickly become one of my favorite directors thanks to his work with the tremendous [1] Sin Nombre and the very good Jane Eyre. He has had one possible new film [2] on deck, the Civil War heist film No Blood, No Guts, No Glory, and he has talked up other options, including a musical [3]. Now he has fully set up another project: he just signed to direct the sci-fi thriller Spaceless for Universal. Word of this project first bubbled up a couple weeks ago when The Playlist [4] reported a tweet from Jeff Vintar, who wrote Spaceless. At the time, Cary Fukunaga was in talks to direct the film for producer Gore Verbinski. Now THR [5] reports that the deal is done. He'll also rewrite that draft.
