The whole purpose of the existence of movies like Family Switch is to entertain the audience for an hour or two, nothing more, nothing less. Family Switch on Netflix is a Christmas movie, but it brings the age-old concept of body swapping into the fold. The latter part is always exciting, if things are pulled off right. Family Switch takes off a little shaky, but the film interestingly gets better with each passing minute. The end product is a surprisingly well-made, genuinely fun Christmas movie with a great emotional payoff. There isn’t much confusion in the rather simple narrative, except for the character of Angelica. Let us take a closer look.
Spoilers Ahead
Plot Synopsis: What Happens In The Movie?
Imagine Andy Bernard in his post-Dunder Mifflin days, but with a family. Ed Helms plays Bill Walker, who is a high school music teacher. The Walker family is your staple dysfunctional family.

Plot: Jess and Bill Walker are doing their best to keep their family connected as their children grow older, more independent, and more distant. When a chance encounter with an astrological reader causes the family to wake up to a full body switch, on the morning of the most important day of each of their lives, can the Walkers unite to land a promotion, college interview, record deal and soccer tryout?
Review: In the sub-genre of body swap movies, very few films stand out as quality films. The concept itself is ridiculous and silly and tends to aim more toward family-friendly fare like Freaky Friday and 13 Going On 30. Still, even those movies benefitted from some personality and edge that helped them earn some originality, a quality sorely lacking in Netflix’s new Christmas-themed comedy Family Switch. Everything you need to know about this movie is showcased in the trailer,...

The cast includes Emma Myers, Brady Noon, Bashir Salahuddin, Matthias Schweighöfer, and Xosha Roquemore. Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Paul Scheer, Fortune Feimster, and Rita Moreno also star.

This Region-Free import gives us both versions of Gillo Pontecorvo’s fictional tale of colonial misdeeds that sums up old Europe’s attitude toward the New World. Marlon Brando’s agent provocateur and freebooting soldier of fortune foments revolution against the Portuguese and then hires out to reverse everything he’s done for English interests. The big scale production was filmed in several locations across the globe; it has a standout performance from Evaristo Márquez as a charismatic peasant eager to become a conqueror.

The rest of the logline reads: “When a chance encounter with an astrological reader causes the family to wake up to a full body switch, on the morning of the most important day of each of their lives, can the Walkers unite to land a promotion, college interview, record deal and soccer tryout?”
McG is set to direct from a script by Adam Sztykiel (Black Adam). McG, who has a long history with Netflix that includes titles The Babysitter and Tall Girl, will also produce along with Wonderland partner Mary Viola.

There are few events movie fans look forward to quite like the Barnes & Noble 50 off Criterion Collection sale. It happens twice a year – once in July and again in November – and it’s a perfect opportunity for physical media enthusiasts to acquire some of the very best Blu-rays, loaded with special features and anchored by exemplary video and sound. Sure, the Christmas holiday might be the wonderful time of the year. But Criterion sale time at Barnes & Noble is a close second for those of us still collecting physical media.
This year, there are plenty of amazing titles to choose from and we thought we’d highlight a handful if you’re having trouble narrowing down what to get. These are all titles that have come out since the last sale (in November 2021) and include some that are coming out towards the end of July, when the sale ends.

Gotta love that title! Producer Walter Mirisch’s small-scale Monogram noir was once assumed lost, but now it’s making its home video debut on Blu-ray. A luckless young entertainer finds himself neck deep in murder trouble, when an unbreakable string of circumstantial evidence points directly at him. As the date of his execution nears, the only way his desperate wife can help him is to encourage the detective on the case to think he has a chance with her. Taken from a Cornell Woolrich story, the show tries hard despite its low budget — we can almost feel Mirisch behind the scenes, making sure the picture has heart and sincerity.

Abbott & Costello perform at full strength in this very good, very silly jungle safari comedy. It’s definitely for kids and nostalgic fans — with equal parts slapstick, cornball repetitive vaudeville gags, and Lou Costello’s weirdly endearing infantile schtick. An impressively beautiful restoration has pulled it back from the pit of Public Domain ugliness. Plus ClassicFlix & the 3-D Archive appoint this 2-D movie with a tall stack of creative, relevant extras.

Updated with Donald Trump tweet: A magnitude 7.0 earthquake rocked coastal Anchorage, Ak, at 8:30 a.m. local time this morning, badly damaging homes, buildings and infrastructure and forcing local TV stations off the air, according to reports. Numerous aftershocks continue to hit the region — some felt up to 350 miles away — and the federal government canceled a tsunami warning that was issued earlier.
CBS affiliate Ktva-tv was reporting from the city using Facebook Live, with staff saying their newsroom flooded and the ceiling caved in. One staffer reported having difficulty breathing from all the “chemicals” and debris in the building as they evacuated. Watch CBS’ live coverage of the quake and its aftermath below.

Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Michelle Rodriguez have taken to social media to remember Paul Walker one year on from his death.
The Fast & Furious actor was just 40 years old when he passed away after a car accident in Santa Clarita, California on November 30.
Post by Vin Diesel.
Diesel shared his memories on Facebook alongside a photo of his 6-year-old daughter sitting with the late actor.
"He was a part of so much in my life... long personal talks with my mother or babysitting the Alpha Angel... he took a certain pride in being uncle Pablo... after all, we were filming a scene in FF4 the day she was born, and he being the only one I told, encouraged me to go in and cut the umbilicle cord (sic)," he said.
"He was an important part of my transition into fatherhood... that healthy family member, with the most positive outlook on life.

Obviously, there's a bit of metatextual, non-diagetic solemnity to Brick Mansions, the final feature film starring one Paul William Walker the Fourth. Sure, we're going to get whatever scenes from Fast and Furious 7 they'll cobble together, but, really, this is his last shebang. Do we see Mr. Walker zoom around in a car for no particular purpose other than "thrills"? Yup. But this time, we see a fully packaged action star, one meant to compete mano-a-mano against the likes of David Belle, aka that guy in District 13 who helped popularize all that Parkour stuff.Ostensibly, this is a remake of Luc Besson's original Banlieue shtick, with the script once again penned by this most prolific of French action maestros. Instead of the slums of Paris,...

Handsome American actor best known for his role as Brian O'Conner in the Fast and Furious blockbuster movie franchise
Paul Walker, who has died aged 40 in a car accident, combined unthreatening star charisma with preppy good looks and a canny commercial sensibility. Though he had shown promise in his early film roles, he could easily have become just another piece of well-dressed eye candy had it not been for his involvement in the colossally successful Fast and Furious franchise, which has grossed $2.38bn worldwide to date.
In 2001, the first film in the series, The Fast and the Furious, put a four-wheeled spin on the surfing-bank-robbers thriller Point Break. Walker took the Keanu Reeves role of the upstart undercover cop who infiltrates a criminal gang – in this case, a group of daredevil street-racers moonlighting as truck hijackers – before discovering a kinship with the renegades he is supposed to be apprehending.

Charlton Heston movies: ‘A Man for All Seasons’ remake, ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ (photo: Charlton Heston as Ben-Hur) (See previous post: “Charlton Heston: Moses Minus Staff Plus Chariot Equals Ben-Hur.”) I’ve yet to watch Irving Rapper’s melo Bad for Each Other (1954), co-starring the sultry Lizabeth Scott — always a good enough reason to check out any movie, regardless of plot or leading man. A major curiosity is the 1988 made-for-tv version of A Man for All Seasons, with Charlton Heston in the Oscar-winning Paul Scofield role (Sir Thomas More) and on Fred Zinnemann’s director’s chair. Vanessa Redgrave, who plays Thomas More’s wife in the TV movie (Wendy Hiller in the original) had a cameo as Anne Boleyn in the 1966 film. According to the IMDb, Robert Bolt, who wrote the Oscar-winning 1966 movie (and the original play), is credited for the 1988 version’s screenplay as well. Also of note,...

We recently premiered the soundtrack to the the film, "Loves Her Gun." Directed by Geoff Marslett, we listed it as one of our 10 Films To See At SXSW Film Festival 2013, and part of that is due to the score by Hanan Townshend. The up-and-coming composer hit on everyone's radar when he popped up contributing bits of music to Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life," and even more so when he got the coveted gig to score all of Malick's next film, "To The Wonder." While there's no original music to listen to yet -- many of the pre-existing compositions that appears in the film were revealed last year (you can listen to plenty of it here) -- what has been unveiled by Lakeshore Records and Amazon is the artwork and soundtrack details for the film which include 12 Townshend original pieces, orchestral pieces by Bach, Wagner and another Townshend track...

It's over: The 2010-11 TV season as measured by Nielsen officially ended Wednesday night (May 25). It was a rough year for new series -- only a handful of first-year shows made it to a second season -- but a number of veteran shows had strong seasons, and a few in particular went out with a bang.
As for others, well, let's just say that it's probably a good thing they have the summer off to rejuvenate.
We've watched dozens of season and series finales over the past couple of months. Here are Zap2it's picks (in alphabetical order) for the best and worst of the bunch.
The Best
"Brothers & Sisters": As a season finale, it was excellent. All the major stories of the season were wrapped up with just a few small teases for the next season, and we got a fun wedding with a hilarious musical number by the men.

There's something inhumane about networks announcing mass cancelations all at once. It sort of denies the viewer a chance to mourn each and every show that's killed the same way we watched them -- one at a time and with our undivided attention.
So now that the execs have gone home with blood on their hands, we finally have a moment to really think about the loss of one of our favorite shows, ABC's "Brothers & Sisters."
As we mentioned in our finale article, there are a few reasons to believe that the series that defined family dysfunction could have gone on. But, if it ended with that episode (as we now know it does) and the series was truly about surviving the sins of William Walker, then that chapter can now be closed. That doesn't mean we won't miss the things that "Brothers & Sisters" did so well.
So, allow us...

The Walker wedding extravaganza on "Brothers & Sisters" went just as expected, because everything going awry is how this show rolls. A 180-degree turn from the Season 4 finale crash that left the Walker clan in pieces, this episode was a nice shift for the Season 5 (possibly series) finale.
The episode begins with Sarah (Rachel Griffiths) having doubts about marrying Luc (Gilles Marini) while she's on the outs with Nora (Sally Field) over dating Brody (guest star Beau Bridges). Halfway through the episode, several unlucky turns in the wedding have added to her already fragile state and Sarah takes a breather right before she's to walk down the aisle.
The entire episode seems to pivot on the next scene. Brody is there in his mobile home and lures Sarah in with a beer. Once inside, he tells her that the necklace she picked from Nora's jewelry box is the one he gave Nora when they were young,...

The Walkers confronted their latest paternity/maternity scandals last night in "For Better or For Worse," with the requisite twists, turns and emotional turmoil.
Sarah made it quite clear that she doesn't want her real father, Brody, in her life. Or Nora's. This puts Sarah's widowed mother in a difficult situation, clearly.
We flash back to decades earlier, when Nora faced another difficult Brody situation. She broke the news to him that William Walker asked her to marry him.
She and Brody had powerful feelings for one another even then.
Meanwhile, the life of Justin Walker may not involve questions of paternity, but it is getting more and more complicated as he receives a blast from the past as well.
Remember Tyler? The girl he fell out of the treehouse with naked?
That was classic. Anyway, she just happens to work at the hotel where Sarah and Luc are getting married.

Maxsim Chernovsky called and would like his tank top and dance belt back.
If you were wondering about last night's Brothers & Sisters liveblog... our dear snicks had taken to his sickbed, all quivering and queasy, and was thus in no shape to watch and comment on last night's Walker family shenanigans.
Too bad, because he could have made serious hay with all the craziness that went down.
The show opens with Sarah breaking in a pair of Louboutins and trying to design a seating chart for her wedding. Good luck with that - in this clan you never know who is related to who at any given moment - much less who is talking to one another.
