Exclusive: Canada’s Thunderbird Entertainment has optioned New York Times bestseller Mad Honey.
The Vancouver-based producer is planning to turn Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan’s novel into a premium TV series.
The novel focuses on themes of young love, teen angst and parental grief, interwoven with murder and high-intensity courtroom drama. The story follows a mother, who relocates to her sleepy New Hampshire hometown to take over the family beekeeping business, whose son is suspected of killing his girlfriend.
“Jodi and Jennifer wrote such an incredibly moving story,” said Matthew Berkowitz, Thunderbird Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer. “We believe that narratives on this level can truly make a significant impact on the empathy we have for others and how people view their own actions as we co-exist in the world.”

What’s better than Rachel Weisz? Two Rachel Weiszes. The Oscar-winning actor is playing twins in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming “Dead Ringers” series, and the streamer now has double the footage with the release of the full official trailer for the show.
The series is based on David Cronenberg’s 1988 psychological thriller film, which starred Jeremy Irons as Beverly and Elliot Mantle, identical twin brothers who run a successful Obgyn clinic. Weisz plays gender-flipped versions of Beverly and Elliot, but the twin’s disturbingly close relationship — down to sharing lovers and drugs — remains intact. The trailer, set to Soft Cell’s 1981 synth cover of “Tainted Love,” teases a very different storyline compared to the original film, focusing on the twin’s experiments to change the very way women can give birth — pushing against basic medical ethics in the process.
“You want me to grow you a baby out of nothing?...

The first official trailer for Prime Video’s modern take on David Cronenberg’s “Dead Ringers” has arrived, with the feminist twist we’ve been craving.
As twins and gynecologists Beverly and Elliot Mantle (both played by Rachel Weisz) make it their mission to reimagine what birthing could look like for women, the twins try their hand at playing God by creating life outside of the bounds of traditional science.
“My sister and I do work that is groundbreaking but hopeful, radical but safe,” one of the twins says in the trailer for the six-episode psychological thriller series. “I want to change the way that women birth; it is world-changing … You want me to grow you a baby out of nothing, let’s make it happen.”

Although we recently got our first look at the upcoming David Cronenberg remake "Dead Ringers," we hadn't actually gotten to see any of the bizarre action to come on Prime Video. Luckily, that has now changed, because the streamer has released its first, albeit very brief look at the limited series. Don't expect to spot any major plot details with this 40-second teaser, but you will spot two very different Rachel Weiszs in bloody lab coats. You may think you know why if you saw the 1988 David Cronenberg original starring Jeremy Irons, but will that be the case with this new take? Who knows! Regardless, this teaser has us sold.
What we do know is that Prime Video's take on "Dead Ringers" looks appropriately moody and downright creepy. Come on, if you are adapting a Cronenberg work, you need to embrace the weirdness that is so synonymous with his stories.

David Cronenberg‘s 1988 film Dead Ringers (get it Here) was seared into Oscar winner (for her role in The Constant Gardener) Rachel Weisz’s memory from the moment she first saw the film, as she found it to be “deeply psychological, deeply twisted, perverse and thrilling”. So when Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures asked Weisz if there were any projects she was keen to make, Weisz brought up the idea of a TV series version of Dead Ringers where she would play the twin lead characters. The project started moving forward in that moment, and Alice Birch – whose credits include Lady Macbeth, The Wonder, Normal People, and Conversations With Friends – was soon brought on board to write (along with an all-women writing team), serve as showrunner, and executive produce the series with Weisz and Ellison. We’ll get to see the result of their collaboration when this six-episode version of...

It's an exciting time to be a fan of Clive Barker. In addition to the Books of Blood movie coming to Hulu on October 7th, a Hellraiser series in development at HBO, and a Hellraiser reboot feature film in the works, there's also a Nightbreed TV series in the pipeline, with the Great Imaginer himself involved.
In a recent interview with ComingSoon.net, Barker revealed that he's working on "the bible" for the series adaptation of his 1988 novella Cabal, and he also shared that the project is slated to be directed by Michael Dougherty, who is also part of the creative team developing the Hellraiser series at HBO. Dougherty confirmed his involvement with Nightbreed to Collider.
Here's what Barker told ComingSoon.net about returning to the world of Cabal, which he previously adapted for the big screen with the 1990 film Nightbreed:

In her first major foray into TV series, Rachel Weisz is set to headline and executive produce Dead Ringers, a reimagining with a gender swap of David Cronenberg’s cult classic 1980s film. Amazon has given a straight-to-series order to the project, from Weisz, Alice Birch, lead writer of Hulu’s acclaimed Normal People series, Annapurna Television and Morgan Creek Entertainment, the company behind the original movie.
In Dead Ringers, written by Birch, The Mantle twins, played by Weisz, are the most successful, brilliant and extraordinary people you’ve never met. Identical from head to toe, these two Ob-gyn’s are on a mission to change the way women birth, starting with Manhattan. Drugs, pioneering but very much illegal medical research, sex and falling in love, this drama based on the David Cronenberg 80s cult classic, takes us to darker and stranger territory than we could have possibly imagined.

I have learned that Syfy is developing Nightbreed, a TV series based on Clive Barker’s short-story collection Cabal, which the prominent horror writer and visual artist previously adapted as the 1990 movie Nightbreed.
The project hails from Barker, writer Josh Stolberg, Morgan Creek Entertainment, whose feature division produced the Nightbreed movie, and Universal Cable Prods.

Created by Jeremy Slater, the psychological and spiritual horror drama first premiered during the 2016-17 television season but entered into a new chapter in its second season, which launched in September 2017.
The series starred Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniel and Kurt Egyiawan. John Cho appeared in the second season as a man running a group home in which a child was targeted by a powerful demon. It came from Morgan Creek Productions in association with 20th Century Fox Television and was executive-produced by Slater, Sean Crouch, Jason Ensler, Rupert Wyatt, Roy Lee, James Robinson, David Robinson and Barbara Wall.
“The Exorcist” was Fox’s lowest-rated program this year, averaging 1.32 million total viewers and a 0.41 rating in the 18-49 demo.
The cancellation comes after Fox axed comedies “The Last Man on Earth,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and “The Mick” on Thursday and “Lucifer” earlier on Friday.

Fox’s well received but low rated horror drama series The Exorcist has been axed after two seasons.
The series, which starred Geena Davis in its first season, started off with a lot of promise. “This show is going to turn heads,” Fox chairman Gary Newman said of The Exorcist to a lot of chuckles (and a few groans) in one of the more memorable lines from the network’s 2016 upfront presentation.
The Exorcist was met with some of the best reviews for a new series that fall, and the acclaim continued in Season 2. But, scheduled on Friday nights, the series adaptation of the classic 1973 movie never got traction. In its most recent second season, it averaged a paltry 0.6 adults 18-49 Live+7 rating.
Putting the horror series on Friday nights was “tough for that show,” Newman told Deadline in March. “We had hoped that we would be able to tap...

Another new name has been added to the cast of Fox’s The Exorcist TV series, and it should excite fans of Beetlejuice and 1986’s The Fly.
Variety reports that Geena Davis has joined the cast of The Exorcist TV series. Following the recent announcement that Fox has ordered a TV series inspired by William Peter Blatty’s 1971 novel, The Exorcist, it’s now been revealed that Brianne Howey has been cast a potentially possessed character.
Deadline reports that Howey (Scream Queens) will play the series regular role of Charlotte on Fox’s The Exorcist. Charlotte is “a former ballet dancer, once the golden child, she has not been the same since her terrible accident. Now depressed and anti-social, she’s closed off and guarded.” In the show, Charlotte’s change in behavior causes her mother (a role not yet cast) to believe that a demonic possession could be the problem.
The Exorcist series is being written by Jeremy Slater (The Lazarus Effect, 2015’s Fantastic Four). Producing duties are handled by 20th Century Fox Television and Morgan Creek Productions, with Slater executive producing along with James Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall.

Exclusive: Barbara Wall is stepping down as Evp television for Lionsgate. Wall, who served as head of development and current programming at the indie TV studio, will stay on as a producer until her current contract expires in the fall. The search is underway for her successor. The reasons for Wall's departure are unclear (some say she felt it was time after six years at Lionsgate), but the timing of the executive changeover coincides with the beginning of the next TV development cycle. Since joining Lionsgate in 2005, Wall has been instrumental in building Lionsgate's scripted TV slate, which includes AMC's Mad Men, Showtime's Weeds, NBC's anthology series Fear Itself, Starz's Crash and Showtime's Nurse Jackie. She also shepherded development by Lionsgate-based producers Clyde Phillips and Stanley Tucci & Steve Buscemi. Before Lionsgate, Wall was Evp production and development for Heel and Toe Films, where she helped develop the pilot for Fox's House.
