Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, and John Eastman were among 18 co-defendants indicted by an Arizona grand jury Wednesday on charges stemming from their attempts to overturn the state’s 2020 election results by nominating fake electors.
The indictment capped off a year-long investigation spearheaded by Arizona Attorney General Kristin Mayes (D). Wednesday’s filing lists 11 named defendants and seven redacted defendants who are charged with six counts of forgery, one count of conspiracy, one count of fraudulent schemes and artifices, and one count of fraudulent schemes and practices.

The Pogues will be setting sail on their next adventure in Outer Banks Season 4, but the chill, consequence-free life they once knew is no more. Despite an 18-month time jump, John B (Chase Stokes) and Sarah (Madelyn Cline) will still be dealing with the fallout of the Season 3 finale in Season 4. “Anytime you experience loss, it hits in spaces and in places that you don’t anticipate,” Stokes tells People. “Being in the situation that John B and Sarah are in, it really will force them to evaluate everything. Where they are, what their purpose is, what their intentions are, and what was the actual value of it? Was it worth it, in hindsight? If they could go back and change things, would they? Or do they feel okay with it?” Sarah and John B lost their fathers on the same day and had to watch them die in front of their eyes.

Amusing, uplifting, and about as sugary and teeth-sabotaging as caramelized popcorn, The Beautiful Game celebrates the healing power of team sports for those who might feel pushed to society’s margins by misfortune or choice. Although prefaced with the vague assurance that it’s based on true stories, this comedy-drama by eminent British screenwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce (The Railway Man) and directed by Thea Sharrock (Wicked Little Letters) is a tidily assembled, happy-ending-hewing narrative package that revolves mostly around the fortunes of a half dozen unhoused men, competing for England in the Homeless World Cup.
Bill Nighy stars as the team’s manager, a former scout for major London football club West Ham, who takes the team to Rome, where he must also accommodate each player’s foibles and faults, including the arrogance of star striker Vinnie (Micheal Ward, of Empire of Light). After a short theatrical run in the U.

Coming off a well-deserved first-ever Oscar nomination, Bill Nighy has a new worthwhile movie to add to his highly impressive filmography. The Beautiful Game is, on its surface, another well-worn story of a ragtag team of misfits coming together for validation not just in their football (i.e. soccer) skills but, more importantly, in their lives. And even though we have seen countless underdog stories like this one set on a playing field, we actually haven’t seen one quite like this in terms of the welcome spotlight it puts on the homeless population among us. The timing is particularly pertinent as many major cities seem to a war going on with the homeless, a complete lack of empathy toward what gets a person to this point in life and a solution for lifting them out of it.

Some episodes are tougher than others for cast members to get air time on, Saturday Night Live cast member Ego Nwodim reveals in a new SNL Sketch Rewind video.
That apparently was the case for the Dec. 17, 2023 SNL featuring guest host and SNL legend Kate McKinnon.
However, Nwomdim managed to get her “Rich Auntie with No Kids” onto that episode’s Weekend Update segment, and she quickly became one of the most memorable characters of Season 49.
“She’s very cocky. She’s annoying, but fun,” remarked Nwodim. “You kind of hate her, but you love her.”
Nwodim explained she wrote the sketch with SNL staffers Asha Ward, Gary Richardson, and Alex English.
“I texted them when I found out we were getting to do it on Friday, and I asked, ‘What look do we want?’,” said Nwodim. “And Asha [Ward] sends back a picture of Kris Jenner dressed exactly like...

The Story: A New York cop is unwillingly recruited as an assassin for a top-secret government agency, Cure. Re-christened Remo Williams (Fred Ward), he’s sent on the trail of an unscrupulous weapons dealer, but first must survive his training with Chiun (Joel Grey) master of Sinanju.
The Players: Starring: Fred Ward, Joel Grey, Kate Mulgrew & Wilford Brimley. Music by Craig Safan. Directed by Guy Hamilton.
The History: The Adventure Begins…and ends, with this, the lone big-screen adventure of Remo Williams, the veteran of well over a hundred pulp novels (published as “The Destroyer” series – written by Warren Murphy & Richard Sapir). This was an attempt by Dick Clark (of all people) and the then-fledgling Orion Pictures to launch their own James Bond-style series of adventures. An assortment of familiar life-as-sport metaphors get a healthy workout in “The Beautiful Game,” a story of underdog athletes for whom winning may not be everything, though it’s a welcome distraction from greater obstacles. For many viewers, Thea Sharrock’s cheery Netflix entertainment may serve as an introduction to the real-life event on which it’s based: the Homeless World Cup, an annual soccer tournament bringing together displaced or dispossessed players from nearly 50 countries, playing not merely for a trophy but for a second shot at life. As a premise for an inspirational sports drama, that’s close to unbeatable, and no amount of rote writing in Frank Cottrell-Boyce’s patchy script can dim the film’s lump-in-the-throat effectiveness.
Though drawn from the stories of a range of Homeless World Cup players, the film ultimately centers a single team — England, of course — from the event’s international tapestry, and...

Screen legends Paul Newman and Robert Redford’s second and final screen pairing, in 1973’s The Sting, proved even more popular at the box office than their first, 1969’s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The film — about a syndicate of confidence men planning cons in the Great Depression — was a dream shoot on the Universal backlot set, save for one persistent annoyance: Redford was always late.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its seven Oscar wins, the team behind The Sting — producers Michael Phillips and Tony Bill (the third producer, Julia Phillips, ex-wife of Michael and author of You’ll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again, died in 2002) and screenwriter David S. Ward — joined The Hollywood Reporter‘s It Happened in Hollywood podcast for a rollicking conversation about getting the film made.

Ari Aster has assembled an all-star cast for his next film, “Eddington,” recruiting Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward and Clifton Collins Jr.
A24 is financing and producing the movie, which — based on Aster’s track record — we can only assume will give us nightmares. Plot details are kept under wraps besides the fact that the film “follows a small-town New Mexico sheriff with higher aspirations.”
“Eddington” starts production this week, with Aster writing, directing and producing alongside Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner. Two-time Academy Award nominee Darius Khondji is the director of photography.
“Eddington” marks the sixth collaboration between Square Peg and A24, which produced and distributed Aster’s previous three films — “Hereditary,” “Midsommar” and “Beau Is Afraid” — as well as “Dream Scenario” and the upcoming “Death of a Unicorn.”

No matter how many different iterations of Batman there have been over the years, some folks still see colorful words explode across their memory of the caped crusader: Bang! Pow! Crash! For as dark as the adventures of Batman have progressively become, there’s no forgetting the brief era when the universe of “Batman” was a cartoonish, campy riot filled with tongue-in-cheek dialogue, scenery-chewing performances, and some very snug costumes. Comic books aside, it’s hard to believe that, for years, the TV show was essentially what people thought of when they pictured Gotham’s secretive hero, until 1989, when Tim Burton forever altered the way we view the Dark Knight.
The 60s TV show ran for three seasons on ABC. Still, the world got an extra dose of Batman soon after the first season concluded with Batman: The Movie, essentially a super-sized episode that brought four of Batman’s most...

Hannah Gatsby doesn’t try to hide her grudge against Netflix in the opening minutes of Hannah Gatsby’s Gender Agenda. As it happens, the new comedy special is produced by Netflix, and Gatsby, being a veteran in the stand-up comedy space, does the very right (and smart) thing by bringing up the origin story of it. It began with a very famous artist doing an anti-trans comedy special, which infuriated the LGBTQ community all over the world. Gatsby, who had already propelled herself into the stand-up comedy landscape thanks to her very viral Nanette, which should probably be considered one of the greatest stand-up specials of our time, didn’t wage a full-blown war against Netflix at first. All they did was an Instagram post, which was eventually brought to light by the Russians, as Gatsby says, and they ended up in a conversation with Netflix CEO Ted Sarabdos.

And why did they have to make those sequels? Well, let’s go juuuuuust a bit outside to find out: Wtf Happened to this Movie?!
You might be surprised to know that Major League comes courtesy of the same guy who won an Oscar for writing The Sting.

The feature-length doc is based on Collins’ memoir, “Through the Glass Ceiling to the Stars,” which was co-written by Collins and Jonathan H. Ward.
According to the logline, it will focus on “the extraordinary achievements of Eileen Collins, the first woman to pilot and command a spacecraft, paving the way for the next generation of female space explorers.”
“Eileen’s journey from an underprivileged childhood in small town America to becoming the first woman to pilot and command a space shuttle is a fascinating one,” said Berryman. “The emotional drama of her family’s tale is just as gripping as the risks the shuttle astronauts like Eileen had to take.”

Everything Adam West did, Burt Ward did backward and in elf shoes.
Both West and Ward gave genius performances on William Dozier's 1966 TV series "Batman." The show took place in a cartoon universe full of outlandish villains and sexy criminals, while Batman stood in as some sort of cosmic straight man. Everything in the universe was strange, but the crimefighter dressed as a bat and his banana-caped sidekick in a domino mask both pretended that everything was normal and clean and, gosh darn it, even wholesome. West and Ward were stone-faced in delivering their weird-ass dialogue, elevating "Batman" from a simple adventure program to one of the most brilliant comedy shows in TV history.
Ward had it harder than West. Thanks to the face-covering design of the Batman costume, West could easily be replaced by a stunt performer for the show's many fight scenes. Ward, with his whole head exposed,...

Spectregraph revolves around an isolated mansion nestled into the coastline, a short drive north of Los Angeles. Black Sabbath founders Tony Iommi and Bill Ward each took to social media to give fans and followers an end-of-year update, and it turns out both are in the studio working on separate projects.
Iommi shared a short video on Facebook, recapping his 2023 and dropping some hints of what we can expect from the Sabbath guitarist in 2024.
While he didn’t offer any specifics, Iommi has been “working in the studio” and “writing and doing plenty of stuff,” presumably for his previously mentioned solo LP.
“It’s sounding really good,” he said. “I’m very happy with it. I might use some orchestration, I might not. So we’ll see how it goes.”
Iommi also shared an update on the long-awaited Tony Martin-era Black Sabbath box set, which Iommi teased in his year-end message last year. The collection is now expected to drop in a May after a period of delay.

The recap of the anime series A Playthrough of a Certain Dude’s Vrmmo Life Episode 1 unfolds with the introduction of Taichi Tanaka. Expressing his desire to disconnect from reality, he immerses himself in a Vrmmo game, adopting the moniker "Earth" and intentionally selecting seemingly irrelevant skills to avoid forming connections. As he logs in for the initial time, he describes the game as an open-world experience closely resembling real life.
A Playthrough of a Certain Dude’s Vrmmo Life Episode 1 Anime RecapUpon entry, he encounters top players, but his experience takes a downturn when a higher-ranked player ridicules his bow skills and forcefully knocks him down. Undeterred, Earth heads to the training hall to hone his archery skills. Although starting poorly, he progresses with each level, diligently practicing all the skills he has chosen and elevating them to proficiency.
Venturing outside, he encounters a bustling crowd of players engaged in hunting activities.

Whether you’re in the mood for supernatural chills, slasher thrills, visceral terror, or insight into your favorite horror films and tropes, 2023 had it all.
Here are the ten best horror reads of the year.
10. How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix

Comics Author James Tynion IV, Artist Christian Ward Team for Ghost Story ‘Spectregraph’ (Exclusive)
Modern horror comics master James Tynion IV has some new scare fare for 2024, this time a series for upstart publisher Dstlry.
The creator of acclaimed and best-selling comics Something Is Killing the Children and The Nice House on the Lake is teaming with Christian Ward, the writer-artist behind the current Batman miniseries Batman: City of Madness for Spectregraph, described as a ghost story steeped in the decay of a century of capitalism.
The logline is thus: For years, the mansion has sat strangely, nestled into the coastline just a short drive north of Los Angeles. Rumors have haunted the place for years, its owner a titan of American industry, with a strange fascination in the occult and the paranormal. For decades, the richest men and women in the country have whispered to each other, trying to understand what he was building alone in that mansion for all those years. And now finally,...

With voting juiced by a decidedly partisan John Oliver, the puteketeke bird was crowned the “Bird of the Century” in New Zealand.
After it pulled in more than 290,000 votes, “puteketeke pandemonium prevails,” the conservation organization New Zealand Forest and Bird, announced, granting the title to the endangered water bird with a surviving population of just about about 3,000.
New Zealand’s national bird, the North Island brown kiwi, garnered just 12,904 votes, and the kea, a large, endangered parrot thought to be one of the most intelligent birds in the world, took third with 12,060 votes.
Oliver, meanwhile, took up a global campaign for the puteketeke, also known as the Australasian crested grebe, on his Nov. 12 show.
“It feels like your tongue is tap dancing,” Oliver said in the segment in which he described the fowl’s parenting and mating habits.

Zee-Sony Merger Back On Track
The merger of Zee Entertain Enterprises and Sony’s Indian arm looks to be back on track after an order banning Punit Goenka from managing the new entity was lifted yesterday. The merger of Zee and Culver Max Entertainment was given the go-ahead in August, but the merger has run into several problems. The India Securities and Exchange Board had barred Goenka and his father, Zee founder Subhash Chandra, from the boardrooms of listed companies for a year over allegations of insider trading. However, the Securities Appellate Tribunal has overturned that decision, paving the way for the $10B merger to go ahead and for Goenka to resume his role as MD and CEO of Zee. Sony and Zee have been planning the union for over two years now.

David Fincher is one of the most important filmmakers of his generation – endlessly praised, shamelessly ripped off and somehow still undervalued (He still hasn’t won a Best Director Oscar).
His work conjures up darkened hallways, dogged detectives and crazed killers. The word “Fincherian” has come to describe something twisted and somehow beautiful. As an artist he frequently pushes the boundaries of what is possible technologically, while also playing with the comfort level of his audience. If it doesn’t feel a little bit dangerous, is it even a David Fincher movie?
With “The Killer,” in theaters now and on Netflix on November 10, Fincher takes us on another wild journey, this time alongside a sardonic hit man (Michael Fassbender). In celebration of “The Killer,” we thought we’d look back at his entire filmography. It’s a journey as dark and labyrinthine as anything the filmmaker could cook up.

Stephen King once wrote that the "last reason for reading horror: it's a rehearsal for death. It's a way to get ready." I agree with that statement and believe it applies to watching horror, as well as reading it. Sure, there's something to be said about how watching people scream and die in terrible ways probably satisfies the morbid curiosity that resides in the more primordial parts of our brains. But King's quote serves as a more profound (and socially acceptable) explanation for our attraction to the stories about fictional characters shuffling off this mortal coil, and how they allow us to come into contact with the great beyond.
From a safe distance, that is.
However, for an unlucky number of actors and film crew members, death got a little too close during the making of several horror movies, whether it was freak accidents, production team negligence, or tyrannical directors pushing their crew to extremes.

Clarissa Ward was about to begin a top-of-the-hour CNN live shot in Sderot, Israel, when a Red Alert siren started to blare. The alert is “telling us to find shelter,” Ward said, as her crew hurried toward a bomb shelter. They didn’t make it in time. As Hamas rockets whizzed overhead and Israel’s Iron Dome intercepted some, creating explosions in the sky, Ward and her colleagues ducked in a ditch. The pulse-pounding scene showed that, as Ward said on air, “even with the most sophisticated military technology, the Israelis are still up against a really tough fight.”
The world’s biggest news outlets, now in 24/7 war coverage mode, are up against a parallel fight against disinformation and defamation. Reporters say they have never seen it this bad. Kate Ward joined BBC Studios, the corporation’s commercial arm, last year to oversee its factual portfolio. Ward moved over from Vice Studios, where she was global president, and has jumped into the challenge of stewarding one of the world’s most powerful factual brands, which includes 66-year-old leader in the space the BBC’s Natural History Unit (Nhu).
Ahead of Ward’s trip to Mipcom, she sat down with Variety to discuss the changes she’s implemented over the past year and what she’s looking forward to spotlighting in Cannes.
How would you describe your remit as head of BBC Studios’ factual portfolio?
I’m in the really, really lucky position that BBC Studios Factual is one of the pillars of our production business. We are working across an incredible range from natural history, specialist factual, docs, popular factual and formats, so we’re really reaching across the whole of that factual genre.

News correspondents are trained to keep their emotions in check, but sometimes a story comes along that makes such a feat all but impossible.
Anderson Cooper, Richard Engel, Holly Wiliams, Trey Yingst, Matt Gutman and Clarissa Ward have been seen on camera in recent days trying to report on a horrific event that is emotionally draining: the invasion of Israel by Hamas militants, replete with violence, hostage-taking and explosive force.

On day one as the CEO of CNN, Mark Thompson found himself facing a global crisis after Hamas’ surprise attack against Israel. The veteran news executive is taking over a massive news organization in the middle of an enormously consequential world event, one that will undoubtedly be critical for CNN and its plan to restore itself as the global TV news leader.
When Russia invaded Ukraine last year (just a few months before Thompson’s predecessor Chris Licht took over the venerable news channel), CNN’s viewership soared as it converged on the nascent war (CNN has long benefitted from viewers who don’t typically watch TV news but tune in where there is a major event).
It’s too soon to tell if CNN will see a similar rise in viewers given the violence in Israel, but Thompson, speaking on CNN’s Monday morning editorial call, seems acutely aware of the stakes.

In the first “John Wick,” Keanu Reeves’ titular character — a former assassin brought out of retirement after some goons kill his dog and steal his car — confirms his return with the often quoted line: “Yeah, I’m thinking I’m back.” And one of the many joys of “The Continental,” the new “John Wick” spin-off series that concludes Friday, is the fact that Albert Hughes is back.
He directed “Menace II Society” and “Dead Presidents” with his brother Allen. For “The Continental,” he helmed “Night 1” and Friday’s “Night 3” – essentially two feature-length movies set within the “John Wick” universe.
Not that he was totally sold on the idea, at least initially.
Before Hughes signed on, they wanted a single filmmaker to do all three nights. He described that idea as “daunting.” But then he started thinking about the Old Hollywood system, where directors would make multiple movies every year.

Robin, the Boy Wonder was first introduced in the pages of Batman comic books in 1940, having been created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. The character's domino mask and green-forward costume, as well as his name, were inspired by Robin Hood. In the myth of the comics, the young Dick Grayson was a mere eight years old and worked as a traveling circus performer with his family, aka The Flying Graysons. Dick's parents were murdered by a wicked gangster who had been extorting the circus owners. Orphaned, Dick was taken in by Bruce Wayne and trained in the art of crime-fighting.
As is the natural progression for a comic book character, Robin underwent multiple transformations and iterations over the decades. When Dick Grayson aged out of the role of Boy Wonder (he eventually became a superhero of his own named Nightwing), other younger people, usually teenagers, took on the mantle of Batman's brightly colored sidekick.

New Delhi, July 28 (Ians) Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting was left fuming after being pelted by grapes on live television when he was on his broadcasting duties at the end of Day 1 of the fifth Ashes Test at the Oval.
The incident happened at the conclusion of Day One when Ponting was discussing some points of the day’s play. He was struck by a series of fruity missiles and several grapes were seen near his shoes on the turf.
After the Sky Sports presenter, Ian Ward wrapped an interview with Todd Murphy, pointed out to Ponting. “It looks like you’re being peppered with grapes,” Ward was quoted by the Sun.
But Ponting, who looked far from impressed, said: “I’ve just been hit by a grape. I wouldn’t mind finding out who that was actually.”
Talking about the match, Australia had a productive outing on Day One...
