Actor Dylan O'Brien is on set, holding a machine gun in a darkened tunnel. Illuminated by diffuse light from above, he looks lean and bestubbled, his firearm pointed straight towards the camera.

It’s never a great sign when a network show debuts in the dead of summer, more than a year after it was first announced. But those red flags make sense when you actually watch Midnight, Texas (premiering Monday, July 24 at 10/9c on NBC) — an overstuffed, often ridiculous supernatural drama that somehow manages to make a town filled with magical creatures seem crushingly dull.

The new trailer for Michael Cuesta’s American Assassin which sees Dylan O’Brien as a fledgeling CIA recruit with Michael Keaton, a Cold War Veteran, as his instructor take the fight to stop a lone terrorist threat causing a world war in the Middle East has made an appearance.
Piecing together his memories of losing his parents at 14 O’Brien’s Mitch seems to have had a turbulent upbringing from being kicked out of boarding school and eventually landing on the doorstep of the CIA. The trailer, in which we see O’Brien, angry at the loss of his girlfriend to a terrorist attack on a beach just after proposing, take on the instruction of Keaton’s Stan Hurley at what can only be described at a deadly school for assassins after being sent there by the CIA.

Was there anyone who was happy in this week's Chicago Pd? Maybe Halstead since he got a new toy. But Chicago Pd Season 4 Episode 15 was a joyless affair for everyone else.
"Favor, Affection, Malice or Ill Will" had two major storylines. The first involved a father looking for vengeance on the man that he believed murdered his daughter, but it's not a spoiler to say that the guy he believed was responsible was not the actual killer.
The Intelligence Unit re-opened Rebecca Clark's murder case and unraveled the tangled web to close it. The highlight of this was Voight throwing a guy across a counter to get information. We should start a drinking game for every time Voight does something that is way off book but yet still vastly entertaining.
She'd only been in Chicago six months when she got killed.

If there was a lesson in Chicago Pd Season 4 Episode 14, it was how well do you know the people you're closest to? "Seven Indictments" really wanted us to think that Kenny Rixton was a dirty cop, while the case of the week revealed a con artist who was pretending to live a double life.
Chicago Fire found two victims at the site of an intentionally set house explosion. One was already dead, presumed to be the house's lone tenant, while the other died on his way to Chicago Med.
The only good thing to come out of this was that it gave us an all too brief Colin Donnell cameo. Any time Colin Donnell turns up anywhere it's a good thing, even if he's only there for about thirty seconds. The Med team is getting short shrift on crossovers this week, between this and Marlyne Barrett's one line in Tuesday's Chicago Fire.

Some TV episodes are just meant to be enjoyed. Chicago Pd Season 4 Episode 11 is one of those episodes. We can only imagine how NBC censors must have reacted to this one: "Does she have to cut off his penis?" "How many times can they say penis?" "Do there have to be so many penis jokes?"

Let's be clear, "You Wish" isn't suggesting that sexual assault and murder are funny, but it's pretty much living in the humor of the situation. It's reminiscent of the subplot in the "Law & Order" episode "Mayhem," where an angry housewife also chops off that certain body part, and Logan cringes. Except now it's an entire episode.

Two episodes of Chicago Pd in one week? Aren't we lucky. And Adam Ruzek ships off to someplace else, replaced by Jack Porter from Revenge...I mean, Nick Wechsler.
"Don't Read The News" (which, is anyone else bemused by how the title is so similar to that of the episode right before it?) gives the Cpd Intelligence Unit almost more than it can chew with its long list of victims. But for such a big case it's really not that complicated a plot.
As soon as The Powers That Be said that prime suspect Ricky Barnes was a DNA match it was obvious that his father Franklin was the real perpetrator. That's simple logic, as well as a device that's...

Following an extended period on the sidelines due to an injury suffered on the set of The Maze Runner: The Death Cure – incidentally, production on that one has been penciled in to resume come February – Dylan O’Brien is looking to get back in on the action.
The 25-year-old looks set to kick things off with a bang, too, assuming the part of counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp for Michael Cuesta’s American Assassin. An adaptation of Vince Flynn’s expansive novel series, it chronicles Rapp’s rise to prominence as a CIA black ops newbie, working under the astute eye of a Cold War veteran (Michael Keaton) and CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan).
Taylor Kitsch recently inked a deal to join Cuesta’s thriller as the antagonist, one described as a mysterious operative out to jump-start a full-blown conflict in the Middle East on the scale of a new world war.

There has been a lot of talk about the adaptation of Vince Flynn’s American Assassin, much of it obviously because the Mitch Rapp franchise of books has done exceedingly well, but also because the casting news has made people wonder.
Fans of the series have wondered about Maze Runner star, Dylan O’Brien filling the role, but were apparently just as quick to hold out hope with Michael Keaton on board.
CBS Films and Lionsgate have now announced two more actors, and their roles, which rounds out the main players in the film.
Sanaa Lathan will play Irene Kennedy, the CIA Deputy Director who puts Rapp and his mentor, Stan Hurley (Keaton), on the case in question, and Shiva Negar is the Turkish agent who puts them onto the mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) who is apparently behind trying to kick off a war in the Middle East.

Currently recovering from an on-set accident that has pushed production on Maze Runner: The Death Cure by close to two months, Deadline is reporting Dylan O’Brien has opened talks to assume the role of Mitch Rapp in an upcoming adaptation of Vince Flynn’s crime series, American Assassin.

Dylan O'Brien ("The Maze Runner," "Teen Wolf") is in negotiations to play the title character in "American Assassin" for CBS Films and Lionsgate.
Based on Vince Flynn's novel, the story follows a Cold War veteran (Michael Keaton), who would be the most feared training officer in the CIA if more than a handful of people at the agency actually knew of his existence.
His deputy director tasks him with training a black ops recruit (O'Brien) devastated by the loss of his fiancee to a terrorist attack. The pair is eventually dispatched on a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent to stop a mysterious operative from kicking off a global war.
"Kill the Messenger" helmer Michael Cuesta directs from a screenplay penned by Stephen Schiff. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler are producing and filming begins this Summer.

Nowadays, being a great fan of Brian De Palma means getting burned time and again by projects that are announced, linger, and taper off, and so I can only react to a new deal with some cautious optimism. But news is news, and word has it he’s signed to adapt Sascha Arango‘s black-comic novel The Truth and Other Lies, which the author himself has penned for the screen. [Deadline]
The basic outlines make it sound like an endeavor right up the filmmaker’s alley, following a celebrated author, Henry Hayden, whose messy personal life — his wife writes his books, for one, and he’s impregnated his mistress — and hidden past begin coming to light, necessitating the need to “manage a growing series of lies and complications.” It’s fair to say De Palma has some vested interest in lies, conspiracy, danger, suspense, and spinning these into sickly amusing scenarios — so who better,...
