Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” has officially submitted 18 actors for Emmys consideration, and as part of the show’s campaign, the network has released several FYC posters for each character.
Melanie Lynskey, who earned a nomination last year for playing Shauna, will be joined by Tawny Cypress (Taissa), Juliette Lewis (Natalie) and Sophie Nélisse, who plays the teen version of Shauna, in outstanding lead actress.
Christina Ricci (Misty), Samantha Hanratty (Teen Misty), Courtney Eaton (Teen Lottie), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Teen Taissa), Lauren Ambrose (Adult Van), Sophie Thatcher (Teen Nat) and Simone Kessell (Adult Lottie) are among those vying for outstanding supporting actress. Both Eaton and Kessell are among the Aapi contenders. Should Kessell be recognized for her portrayal of Adult Lottie, she would be the first Pacific Islander to receive a nod in that category. Meanwhile, Kevin Alves (Teen Travis), Steven Krueger (Coach Ben), Elijah Wood (Walter) and Warren Kole (Jeff) will...

“Yellowjackets” composers and songwriters Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker jumped at the chance to write the original music and lyrics contender “Sit Right Down” for Episode 7 of the Showtime series.
“We were deep into the blood, fragmentation, descent and sanity-shattering music,” Wedren says, referring to the events that the survivors have to endure this season. The producers asked them to write an “MGM, old school standard number meets Bob Fosse.”
The dream sequence happens as Simone Kessell’s Lottie asks the adult Yellowjackets to choose a therapy option treatment at her “wellness retreat.” Misty, played by Christina Ricci, finds herself in a sensory tank after picking “Guidance.” She needs it. In the teen timeline, Misty (played by Samantha Hanratty) makes a new bestie in Crystal, a fellow theater lover. Except, Misty’s openness with her Bff during a round of rapid-fire secrets comes to a sad end when Misty confesses...

One of the things we love most about the dark Showtime series “Yellowjackets” is all the fantastic ’90s music. Half of the show takes place in 1996, when high school girls’ soccer team crash lands in the wilderness and half is set 25 years later, with the still traumatized adult survivors.
Season 2 features an exclusive track by Florence + the Machine, an eerie cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl,” Sharon Van Etten’s “Seventeen,” and such ’90s feminist icons as Tori Amos.
And of course, we love the kind of creepy main title theme, “No Return,” by Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker. The opening credits from Season 1 teased some of the things we would see unfold, and the updated Season 2 credits sequence also gives us hints at what we’ll see in upcoming episodes.

Since its 2021 debut, "Yellowjackets" has had the best soundtrack on TV, and season 2 kept up the momentum across its nine-episode run. Half of "Yellowjackets" is set in the 1990s and so the soundtrack pulls mostly from that era, especially indie rock, pop punk, and grunge. Those styles congeal into "No Return," the show's hypnotic original theme crafted by Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren. It sounds like the kind of song the characters could have listened to as teenagers and one that hints at their dark descent.
If you're in a playlist-making mood, check out /Film's own guide to every song on the "Yellowjackets" season 2 soundtrack. Beyond these songs being kick-ass, what do they bring to the show? In this week’s “Yellowjackets” episode, which hit Showtime streaming on Friday, Tony-winning singer and actor John Cameron Mitchell makes a surprise cameo as part of Misty (Christina Ricci)’s out-of-body experience in a sensory deprivation tank. [Spoilers for episode 2.07, “Burial” follow]
“I’m the go-to one-off singer/guest star for shows now,” Mitchell quipped in a Zoom interview with TheWrap. Mitchell, who rose to fame for writing and starring in the stage musical and subsequent film “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” has appeared recently in “The Sandman” and costars in Apple TV+’s “City on Fire,” which premieres Sunday.
In previous “Yellowjackets”episodes, we learned that Misty and her fellow Citizen Detective Walter (Elijah Wood) both love showtunes, so a Broadway-style fantasy sequence isn’t entirely out of left field. It unfolds in a theatrically heightened mode with Mitchell against an empty black stage with a few props while wearing a fabulous...

This article contains spoilers through the latest episode of Yellowjackets
Yellowjackets has been doing deep-cut needledrops since before Stranger Things season 4 made it cool. While the series certainly leans into the late ’90s setting of the plane crash flashbacks for much of its music (as it should), the present day timeline keeps the series from feeling too limited in its scope of song choices. Yellowjackets is one of the few shows that could pull off having songs from Papa Roach and Sharon Van Etten in the same episode without it being too distracting. Instead, this eclectic mix of music shows that the music supervisor and showrunners know how important the right song is to the story.
Yellowjackets may cover heavy things like trauma and cannibalism, but that doesn’t mean that its soundtrack can’t be full of bops and bangers, including the title sequence song “No Return” by Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren.

This post contains spoilers for the second season of "Yellowjackets."
One of the things you can't deny about Showtime's runaway hit "Yellowjackets" is that it's got a killer soundtrack. Even before we got to hear its catchy theme song from Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren, the pilot episode set up one of the show's recurring elements: a soundtrack that consists of both '90s classics and deep cuts. The show's second season is no different — after all, they are still fighting for survival during the late '90s portion of the show.
Even if this isn't taken into consideration, the 1990s were a great time for music, as evidenced throughout "Yellowjackets." If you weren't privy to living through the '90s, some of these songs might be delighting your ears for the very first time, and as such, might be too entranced to open your Shazam app to ask, "what song is playing?...

Can that nostalgic feeling be enough to garner an Emmy nomination? If the 2022 list of nominees is any guide, the answer is yes.
In the live variety special category, the proof is in the pudding. Per usual, the Grammys, the Tonys and the Oscars — slap and all — are nominated. However, the final two slots are filled by ABC’s “Live in Front of a Studio Audience: The Facts of Life and Diff ’rent Strokes” and NBC’s “Pepsi Super Bowl Lvi Halftime Show.”
The Norman Lear and Jimmy Kimmel live special has been nominated each time it has aired previously — first for the recreation of “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons” in 2019 and in 2020, with “Good Times” in the mix. With “The Facts of Life” and “Diff ’rent Strokes” this year, not only were old stories retold, more A-list stars — and talent from the original shows— joined in.

For Showtime’s Yellowjackets, composers Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker were tasked with creating the thriller series’ brooding score, which heightens the tension for the show’s gnarlier sequences in which a team of high school soccer players struggle to survive in the wilderness after their plane crashes en route to a national tournament in 1996. Wedren and Waronker, respectively the lead singers of ’90s rock bands Shudder to Think and That Dog, also returned to their alt-rock roots to record the show’s theme song, a ’90s pastiche that channels the emotional furies that the survivors — now grown women in the present day — struggle with as they work through the traumas of their adolescence. The pair spoke to THR about their excitement for the project and the joy of experimenting with new — and old — sounds.

The ’90s: back! Also back: overwhelming existential dread! They’re two great tastes that taste great together, as any fan of Showtime’s hit series “Yellowjackets” can attest. Besides all the mid-’90s pop and indie-rock needle drops that pop up amid the calmer moments in the show’s sometimes horrific storm, there’s also music of an uneasier nature coming from the two musicians responsible for both the score and original songs, both ’90s veterans: Craig Wedren of the band Shudder to Think, and Anna Waronker of That Dog.
Without resorting to cannibalism, these two formed a few survival skills of their own, in escaping the uncertainty of the music business for steady television work, and previously became a TV team working on a couple of very different series, Hulu’s “Shrill” and The CW’s “The Republic of Sarah.” Now, “Yellowjackets” has allowed them some moments to revisit their ’90s band roots,...

The adult-themed animated series, Harley Quinn, requires a special musical touch, which composer Jefferson Friedman handles deftly.
Harley Quinn on DC Universe is not your typical comics-based animated series. With its mature humor befitting the irreverent, hammer-wielding villain, the series is carving out its own niche that has elevated the status of this already beloved character. Part of the success of the adult tone of this new cartoon offering is the score, which must dance a fine line between humorous and dark, mixing the two when appropriate. Composer Jefferson Friedman, who is familiar with DC having scored the short-lived Powerless, took on the task and spoke to us about his process on the latest episode of The Fourth Wall podcast.
Although Friedman is achieving recognition for his work on Harley Quinn as well as on NBC’s popular medical drama, New Amsterdam, writing music for live action...

Yo La Tengo have been performing their famous eight-night Hanukkah run for the better part of 18 years, but it has nothing to do with being Jewish. “We’re not all Jewish, for one thing,” frontman Ira Kaplan tells Rolling Stone. “Even those of us that are are not religious in any way. It was more that it seemed challenging and funny to play eight nights in a row with all the hoopla over Christmas. I thought that Hanukkah could use a bit of a spotlight.”

On July 26th, Drafthouse Films invites viewers to attend an unnerving dinner party with their Blu-ray / DVD combo pack (including Digital HD) release of Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation, complete with an audio commentary, a booklet, and more:
Press Release: Dubbed “the best horror film of the year” by Maxim, the stylish chiller The Invitation will arrive in a Blu-ray + DVD combo pack on July 26, 2016, from Drafthouse Films. In this taut psychological thriller from award-winning director Karyn Kusama (Girlfight, Jennifer’s Body), the tension is palpable when Will (Logan Marshall-Green, Prometheus) shows up to a dinner party hosted by his ex-wife Eden (Tammy Blanchard, Into the Woods) and new husband David (Michiel Huisman, “Game of Thrones”). The estranged divorcees’ tragic past haunts an equally eerie present; amid Eden’s suspicious behavior and her mysterious house guests, Will becomes convinced that his invitation was extended with a hidden agenda. Unfolding over one dark evening in the Hollywood Hills, The Invitation blurs layers of mounting paranoia, mystery, and horror until both Will-and the audience-are unsure what threats are real or imagined.

When Shudder To Think hit the musical skids in 1998, Craig Wedren headed out on his own, working with acts like The Verve Pipe and Cex, and writing film scores and theme songs for various projects that the cast members of The State were involved in, like Reno 911!, Stella, and Wet Hot American Summer. In 2004, Wedren formed a glam disco band, Baby, and released a self-titled record on his own Nerveland Recordings label. Seven years later, Baby has now been reissued with bonus content, sparked in part by the inclusion of one of its tracks, “Get Your Body ...

Three more tracks have been released from the forthcoming indie rock-centric Fleetwood Mac tribute. Below you'll find Mgmt’s clangy, obtuse take on “FutureGames" and Lykke Li’s delicate go at “Silver Springs," while Prefix Mag has an MP3 of Antony’s run at “Landslide,” arguably the best of the bunch. The New Pornographers’ “Think About Me” and Best Coast’s “Rhiannon” were previously released. All of the songs are off Just Tell Me That You Want Me, which also features Matt Sweeney and Bonnie "Prince" Billy, The Kills, Washed Out, Craig Wedren and St. Vincent, and Zz Top ...

The Internet wouldn't be the Internet without its healthy (or is it unhealthy?) supply of pictures of cute cats and kittens.
Images of adorable felines are so frequent as Facebook posts that they've almost inadvertently staged their own unintentional takeover of the social networking site, and there are hundreds if not thousands of blogs, memes and other outlets dedicated strictly to the worship of Felis domesticus.
However, we've found one tumblr that contains content that will test the endurance of even the most hardcore cat lover: "Cage Cats," a blog dedicated to posting some of the most disturbing pictures to ever hit the World Wide Web.
It's kind of self-explanatory, and ... well, you're just going to have to experience it for yourself. Can you imagine such a diabolical mutation actually existing, spewing its disfiguring wrath upon our unsuspecting kitties? Shudder to think.

Mgmt, Best Coast, New Pornographers, Lykke Li and The Kills are among artists contributing to “Just Tell Me That You Want Me: A Tribute To Fleetwood Mac.” Out Aug. 14, via Hear Music/Concord, the 17-track set features indie rockers and Fleetwood Mac contemporaries such as Zz Top’s Billy Gibbons examining the popular group’s catalog. Some acts, such as Best Coast and Karen Elson, took on more familiar Fleetwood Mac tunes, while others, such as Shudder to Think’s Craig Wedren paired with St. Vincent to dive deeper into the group’s 45-year catalog. Traction on Girl with a Pearl Earring director Peter Webber‘s next film, Emperor, has been a little slower than some earlier reports indicated. (Which is to say, a movie that was supposed to begin shooting in January should be doing so on January 30th.) But it’s kicking along, and our latest reminder is undoubtedly a strong one — Webber has announced (via Twitter) that Alexandre Desplat will be scoring the film, serving as a reunion between the director and composer from Pearl Earring.

Former Shudder To Think lead singer Craig Wedren has signed up to score the directorial debut of "The Kids Are All Right" screenwriter Stuart Blumberg, sex-addiction drama "Thanks For Sharing." Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim Robbins, Joely Richardson, Patrick Fugit, Josh Gad and Alecia Moore (better known by popstar moniker Pink) all star in the pic, which is set to follow a group of unlikely friends who are brought together through their shared determination to recover from sex addiction and forge meaningful relationships for the first time in their lives. Blumberg co-scripted with Matt Winston for what seems like prime fall festival material. It's probably an easy guess that Wedren was referred by 'Kids' helmer Lisa Chodolenko with whom he's collaborated on two films, "Laurel Canyon" and "High Art." He also wrote the theme songs to "Reno 911!" and cult favourite "The State" and is also on board...

London, Aug 18: Justin Theroux's friend has claimed that he was very much involved with his girlfriend Heidi Bivens when he met and fell in love with Jennifer Aniston.
According to InTouch Weekly Magazine, Craig Wedren, Wanderlust composer and friend of the pair said that when Theroux, 40, "met and fell in love" with Aniston he was still "very taken".
"He totally lied to Heidi and broke her heart," the Daily Mail quoted Wedren as saying.
The budding relationship between the couple may not be all that it appears to be, with friends of the stars believing that the 42-year-old actress might have jumped.

Unless you’ve been living in a Chamber of Secrets (with no wi-fi) for the last ten years, you’ll be aware that the Harry Potter movies come to a climactic close this week with Deathly Hallows Part 2. With no books to adapt, there was tearful scenes at last UK premiere as there will be no more screen ventures for the boy wizard and it’s almost certain that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have waved a fond farewell to the franchise.
But nothing is set in stone (not even a Philosopher’s one!) and with Jk Rowling launching Pottermore in October, the wizarding movie world could be reborn like a beloved phoenix. No, don’t just think this is wishful thinking, it’s perfectly true.
So, forgetting the books for a moment, here are five ways the Potterverse could continue in film:

We've reached the eve of that day that those two people over yonder actually get married which means that one way or another, all this news about dresses and Princess Diana and whatnot ends tomorrow. The wedding itself airs at 6am Eastern time, so those of you west of here can adjust that as necessary to know when to set your alarm for. I'm not planning on watching or participating in any wedding related drinking games because 1. I like sleeping, especially before sunrise and 2. I have to work tomorrow and while my boss may be lenient about a few royal wedding related mimosas, I doubt the officers of Miami-Dade county consider that an acceptable excuse for driving under the influence. Still, I'll watch the highlights and I hope all of you who are waking up for super early morning wedding gawking have a great time. And those of you who...

Craig Wedren is a man of many talents—songwriter, composer and now panoramic filmmaker. The former Shudder to Think frontman will be releasing The Wand—a joint concept album and interactive film. Craig Wedren, who once fronted Shudder to Think, has become an accomplished composer for TV and film (having scored "School of Rock," "Roger Dodger," and "Wet Hot American Summer"). His latest project is an album and interactive film called "Wand." The first chapter and single, "Are We," is up today in a fully 360° panoramic style you can only watch, or rather explore, on this site.
Wedren's inspiration for "Wand" struck at a flea market deep in Mexico. "A Chilean man was selling this wand-shaker made out of animal bones and shells. It was stunning, magical -- truly a magic wand," Wedren believes. "When I tried to buy it, he asked me where I was from. When I told him 'New York City,' he refused to sell me the wand on the grounds that it was 'too powerful' to risk falling into the hands of George W. Bush, who was still President at the time.

I was surprised to hear last year that Francis Ford Coppola had quietly gone into production on a gothic dream/nightmare horror story called Twixt Now and Sunrise. I'm a hell of a lot more surprised to hear that Dan Deacon is scoring it. Dan Deacon is a guy whose basic appearance will cause anyone who casually spits out the word 'hipster' to recoil in horror. But he's one of the best goddamn performers I've seen in a while, with the ability to squeeze wild noises out of analog electronics and an enviable knack for manipulating audiences. None of which seems to gel at all with what we know about Mr. Coppola's dream inspired film that stars Val Kilmer, Elle Fanning, Ben Chaplin, Alden Ehrenreich and Bruce Dern. That just makes me all the more curious. I don't see how the sounds we're used to hearing from Deacon would work,...

Shudder To Think frontman Craig Wedren can add yet another film to his repertoire come October. Wedren has been hired by longtime friend David Wain to score his latest comedy opus “Wanderlust”. One of the weirdest major-label signings during the indie feeding frenzy of the ’90s—leaping from the punker-than-punk Dischord, no less—Shudder To Think never really fit into any easily recognizable category, acting too pop to be punk, too post-punk to be pop, and just too strange to have any hits. The band began its big-league career with the momentous Pony Express Record, and it’s the songs from that jagged beauty that make the biggest impression on Live From Home, which was recorded when the group reunited and went on tour last year. Chicago – It’s a vastly overused phrase in criticism, but MTV’s “The State” truly was ahead of its time. I remember seeing the show in its original broadcast on MTV and thinking it was like nothing else on television. Now it would easily fit in the comedy landscape. After years of begging, fans of “The State” are finally being given a complete series set and it was worth the wait.
Perhaps one of the reasons that “The State” feels so ahead of its time is the frequency with which its cast members pop up in film and television now. The cast of “The State” would go on to work together on shows like “Stella,” “Viva Variety,” and “Reno 911!” and films like “Wet Hot American Summer” and “The Ten,” but they would also find massive success apart from the whole troupe.
