Jason George is embracing the time he has left with Station 19, despite his tough feelings about its surprising cancellation.
The actor tells The Hollywood Reporter about his mixed emotions as the ABC firefighter drama series signs off this month after seven seasons. George originated his role of Ben Warren in an episode of the sixth season of Grey’s Anatomy that aired in 2010 before spinoff show Station 19 launched in March of 2018.
Indeed, fans were stunned when news broke late last year that ABC would be ending the series after the current season. “It’s incredibly tough because it feels like we have so many more years in us,” George tells THR about Station 19 ending.
Still, the actor takes solace in knowing that his show’s team was able to prepare for the finale, which is not always the case for some series.

Now that we know that ABC’s Station 19 is ending with Season 7 — barring any sort of 11th-hour save — it’s time to prepare our goodbyes to Seattle’s finest firefighters. Well, most of them anyway. We have a feeling that we’ll be seeing Jason George’s Ben Warren again as Station 19 predecessor Grey’s Anatomy continues into Season 21 this fall. Ben is, after all, married to Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), one of two original Grey’s Anatomy characters still appearing on the ABC medical drama full-time. Wilson has already challenged herself to stay on Grey’s until “the very last episode, the very last day, the very last scene,” and Bailey and Ben’s relationship will surely stand the test of time. So we can count on Ben and Bailey sharing screen time on Grey’s Anatomy at least periodically in Season 21 and beyond. But might Jason George become a full-time Grey’s star again,...

Bailey (Chandra Wilson) has had enough. In TV Insider’s preview of the May 2 episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Bailey needs a moment to rant to Owen (Kevin McKidd) about everything on her plate. Bailey’s got a lot of complaints she needs to get off her chest. “Do you know how tired I am? I have three jobs. I run a clinic. I’m residency director, a full-time surgeon… and I’m a mom,” Bailey tells Owen. “Actually, that’s four jobs. I’m lucky if I get five hours of sleep a night.” She’s upset because she took time out of her “busy, sleep-deprived life to do something about the well-being of our interns, so they don’t end up stressed or run down or burnt out because I am a damn good teacher, and I care about these people.” Owen hasn’t had a moment to get a word in yet.

“Station 19” is about to hit a huge milestone, but it’s bittersweet.
Just three days into production on Season 7 of the “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, as plans for a celebratory 100th episode were beginning to develop, new showrunners Peter Paige and Zoanne Clack learned that the show had been canceled. Season 7 would be its last, tasking them with not only ushering the show into a new era, but also to a satisfying ending. They were not prepared.
“I was sitting on the floor in my underwear, writing,” Paige tells Variety. Clack adds, “I was on a panel in front of 100 people getting constant phone calls, trying to play it off. I didn’t hear what the actual news was until after the panel.”

This article contains spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy season 20 episode 4.
Fans were introduced to the character of Dr. Arizona Robbins, portrayed beautifully by Jessica Capshaw, back in season 5 of Grey’s Anatomy. Over the years, many felt seen through the character because, as the actress wrote on her Instagram, Arizona was one of the first members of the LGBTQ+ community to be represented in a series regular role on network television, making her impact on the world “permanent and forever.” So when her character left in the season 14 finale, it left a big hole in the medical drama.
Thankfully, she wasn’t killed off. Instead, Arizona decided to move to New York for the sake of her daughter, who needs both of her parents. She teams up with Dr. Nicole Herman (Geena Davis) to start the Robbins/Herman Center for Women’s Health, where she will perform fetal surgery, and launch her maternal mortality prevention program.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
Paging Dr. Arizona Robbins!
Jessica Capshaw made her return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital on Thursday night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Naturally, the case involved fetal medicine, which she’s still been pursuing and advancing since she moved to New York with her daughter Sofia to be closer to her ex Callie.
In this episode, Arizona is called back to Seattle to perform groundbreaking surgery on a fetus with a brain abnormality that would likely result in the baby’s death upon birth.
She teams up with Grey Sloan’s chief neurosurgeon Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) to essentially perform a miracle and, in the process, inject some faith back into the rest of the staff at the hospital after a series of trying cases. And, of course, she challenges a bit of authority along the way,...

Meg explained to EW, “That’s the amazing thing about the writers’ room and having so many characters that have been on and off the show, everybody is always pitching different stories to bring back different people. It was a nice balance of, ‘This medical story is amazing,’ and we’d been looking for a way to bring Arizona back. So it just seemed right, and it felt like it was time to hear that laugh again in the hospital.”

TV’s longest-running primetime medical series ever, “Grey’s Anatomy,” officially scrubbed in for its 20th season on March 14, 2024. The new episodes were delayed until mid-season due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes of 2023. Only three cast members from the first season in 2005 are still a part of the ABC drama in 2024: Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey, and James Pickens Jr. as Dr. Richard Webber.
Behind the scenes, Meg Marinis has taken over as showrunner from Krista Vernoff, who departed after Season 19. Marinis wrote the season premiere, which is directed by long-time cast member Kevin McKidd. Because of the late start, the 20th season will be the shortest since the first season with only 10 episodes total. Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for its record-breaking 21st season. Although this may sound like good news, fans of the medical drama megahit are not happy. The fans feel as if the show has run its course and it is time for it to end. The stars of Grey’s Anatomy may feel the same way and it has been suggested the show start preparing for members of the cast to leave.
Shondaland Should Get Smaller
Fans of Grey’s Anatomy are over it. They no longer want the ABC medical drama, created by Shonda Wilson, to continue. Their reasons vary from fan to fan, but the consensus appears most of them will be willing to say to say goodbye to the show.
The debate about when Grey’s Anatomy “jumped the shark” has been up for debate for quite some time now. That debate is moot. The series has been renewed for another season.

Grey’s Anatomy continues to be in a league of its own, landing a renewal for a 21st season. The pickup, which comes three episodes into Grey’s Anatomy‘s landmark 20th season, extends its record as the longest-running primetime medical drama, which it initially set in 2019, and the longest-running ABC primetime scripted series. I hear Season 21 is expected to consist of 18 episodes, up from the 10-episode strike-impacted 20th season.
The early renewal is a testament to the show’s ability to reinvent itself and stay relevant even with its lead, Ellen Pompeo, not being on-screen full-time as a new group of interns was introduced last season. Pompeo continues to recur in addition to serving as an executive producer and providing the voiceover that opens and closes each episode.

Welcome back, Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw)! Arizona returns to her former place of employment in the April 4 episode, “Baby Can I Hold You,” of Grey’s Anatomy, and until now, all we knew was that she was back for something history-making and, from the logline, that it’s a “particularly complicated case.” Now, the promo, which you can watch above, shows her joining Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) in front of a room full of doctors, including the interns. “A few months ago, I started a clinical trial in which we operate on the baby’s brain before delivery,” Arizona reveals. This has never been done before, “so who wants to make history?” she asks. Also coming up in this episode, the interns are interrogated about their past mistakes, including Dr. Teddy Altman’s (Kim Raver) collapse, as you can see in the video. Is Dr. Lucas Adams (Niko Terho...

This article contains spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy.
From the moment that we first meet Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) in the series premiere of Grey’s Anatomy, we know that she takes her job incredibly seriously. As the resident in charge of a new batch of interns, she has a huge responsibility to help shape the next generation of surgeons into the best version of themselves. And now, nearly 20 years later, Grey’s Anatomy has brought Bailey back into this teaching role as the head of Grey Sloan’s Residency Program.
Dr. Bailey has come a long way since we first met her almost two decades ago. She’s gone from shaping surgeons like Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) into the best in their fields to becoming Chief of Surgery at Grey Sloan to winning the prestigious Catherine Fox award for her work in reproductive health care.

In her Season 20 preview for Deadline, new Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis called it “back to basics,” and the season premiere, which she wrote, offered just that. In a return to Grey’s early years, the episode ended with Bailey retaking charge of the surgical interns.
The opener started with the interns facing the music after getting themselves in trouble with questionable medical decisions in the Season 19 finale and Nick posing a question to them, “Which one of you am I firing?”
Banned from any doctor duties, the group find themselves in the middle of the action anyway. Simone and Lucas end up in the back of an ambulance trying to stabilize a patient with Bailey and Meredith’s directions while their parked vehicle is being hit by a wayward self-driving car every couple of minutes. (It is unclear why the ambulance was not moved away from the crashing car.

Note: This story contains spoilers from the “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 20 premiere.
“Grey’s Anatomy” hit the reset button in the aftermath of its traumatic Season 19 finale, including the exit of one of their own. By the end of the Season 20 premiere, Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) announced he’d be leaving Grey Sloan Memorial to reunite with Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) at her new home in Boston.
His last move as residency director was passing the torch to the now Catherine Fox award-winning Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), effectively bringing the series back to basics with her taking charge of teaching the hospital’s latest class of interns.
“I feel like if anyone can bring these interns back from what just happened, it’s the person who helped create doctors like Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang and Alex Karev,” showrunner Meg Marinis told TheWrap. “Bailey doesn’t always get the credit that she deserves.
