Today, award-winning production and development company Paperclip Ltd founders, Yeardley Smith and Ben Cornwell announce the launch of a new podcast network, Audio 99. From the makers of hit podcasts “Small Town Dicks” and “The Briefing Room,” the Audio 99 network will remain fiercely independent with projects that share the first-hand experiences of ordinary people who are having an extraordinary impact on their communities.
Audio 99, which will operate as a subsidiary of Paperclip Ltd, is in the process of developing and releasing a slate of new shows. First, a historical true crime series called “Beyond Recognition: The Ruxton Murders” set to debut July 19, 2024. Based on the forensic science bestseller, “Ruxton: The First Modern Murder” by legendary Scottish detective Tom Wood, the series delves into the 1935 disappearance of a glamorous young mother and her dutiful maid, whose deaths resulted in one of the most important investigations the world had ever seen at that time.

When Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert sat down at the end of 1993 to pick their 10 favorite movies of the year, they largely selected prestige, Oscar-bait films like The Piano, The Age of Innocence, The Joy Luck Club, and Schindler’s List. They skipped nearly all of the big multiplex hits of the year, including Jurassic Park, Sleepless in Seattle, and Mrs. Doubtfire, making an exception only for The Fugitive. It’s an honor they didn’t give to Die Hard in 1988, The Terminator in 1984, Aliens in 1986, or many other great action movies of the VHS era.

It's probably fair to say that when "The Fugitive" came out in 1993, people weren't exactly demanding a big screen version of the '60s show; even the director and star said they'd never seen it. Even so, the gripping, intelligent thriller for grown-ups became a box office smash and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, the first TV adaptation to compete for the big prize.
The movie was a satisfyingly old-school nail-biter with its fair share of spectacular set pieces, but the highlight was the battle of wits between two very human opponents. Harrison Ford, just a few years after riding into the sunset as Indiana Jones, played a far more down-to-earth protagonist as a grieving doctor framed for his wife's murder, while Tommy Lee Jones won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as the dogged lawman on his trail.

Baz Luhrmann’s sixth feature film, “Elvis,” has been out for a few weeks now, and it hasn’t been doing bad in terms of the domestic box office, where it’s already surpassed most of Luhrmann’s movies, other than 2013’s “The Great Gatsby.” With the caveat that we have only just crossed the midway point of the year, it still seems like a good time to look at the “Elvis” Oscars potential.
Let’s start with Luhrmann himself, because believe it or not, the Australian visionary has only been nominated for a single Oscar, for producing his 2001 masterpiece “Moulin Rouge!” That’s Luhrmann’s most successful movie with the academy, receiving eight Oscar nominations and winning two for Luhrmann’s wife Catherine Martin‘s costumes and production design, but it also went on to inspire a Broadway musical which won 10 Tony Awards 20 years after the original movie’s success.

To mark the release of Gazza, out now, we’ve been given 3 copies to give away on DVD.
Paul Gascoigne was the face of ‘90s Britain, the most celebrated young footballer in the world, and a newspaper editor’s dream. His on-field brilliance was matched only by his off-field antics, which the tabloid media ruthlessly exploited for a celebrity-obsessed audience.
Gazza is an unflinching portrait of the ultimate tragic hero, whose love for the riches and limelight of fame proved to be his downfall. An unmissable documentary for any football fan, featuring interviews from friends, family, and former teammates and coaches including Alan Shearer, Bryan Robson, Paul Ince, Ian Wright and Terry Venables.
Gazza was directed by Sampson Collins and was produced by Gareth Dodds, Tom Wood, Vaughan Sivell & Will Kane with Keith Haviland & Mark Stewart credited as Exec Producers.
Please note: This competition is open to UK residents only...
