Warning: This article contains spoilers for series five of Ghosts
Somehow, the final series of Ghosts has neatly tied up all the show’s loose ends while still leaving us wanting more – which is a jolly good thing considering they’ve confirmed we’re getting one more Christmas special in December 2023.
They really packed a lot into those last six episodes, revealing the heartbreaking truth behind the deaths of Kitty and the Captain, showing Alison and Mike’s next step in life, and giving the whole gang the opportunity to say all the lovely, touching things fans wanted to hear (as well as adding a poignant reference to Mary in the opening credits).
Taking the characters on these final journeys involved lots of flashbacks and new faces, so let’s recap all the most important guest stars from series five:

In the season 2 premiere of Elementary, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan (Lucy Liu) head to London to help Sherlock’s old pal Inspector Lestrade (Sean Pertwee), who has gotten himself into a bit of trouble regarding a Rupert Murdoch-esque figure named Warren Pendry. Lestrade, of course, is one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic characters. Along the way, we also meet three more of Doyle’s creations — Inspector Hopkins (Tim McMullan), Mycroft Holmes (Rhys Ifans), a faceless Langdale Pike, and Sherlock’s London home, 221 B. Here’s what we learned about them.

Actor playing Elizabeth II leaves stage dressed in pearls and tiara to confront musicians outside theatre
She's had some practice in issuing commands to her subjects as a queen, but it still came as a surprise to a group of drummers when Dame Helen Mirren yelled at them to be quiet while dressed in her full Queen Elizabeth II costume on Saturday night.
The 67-year-old, whose performance in The Audience won her an Olivier Award last week, left London's Gielgud Theatre to confront the troupe of performers, whose noise was disturbing the play.
As One in the Park, who were promoting their festival for gay and transgender people due to take place in east London this month, said Mirren was dressed in pearls and a tiara when she demanded the noise stop.
A statement from the festival read: "Clearly angered she shrieked 'Quiet! I'm trying to do a play in here!

Gielgud, London
Well, I didn't believe in it but I was seduced by it. At least for a while. The Audience – the first surefire, unstoppable hit of the year – has been created to disarm all comers. Helen Mirren sparklingly reprises her passive-faced but steely-eyed performance as a Queen who is both stalwart and wistful. Stephen Daldry, the man who once said he would not mind being mayor of London, and who would do a spectacular job, brings to the production the giant flair that he brought to Billy Elliot and An Inspector Calls. Peter Morgan's script nods at those not enamoured of all things monarchical, suggesting that underneath the perm there is something of a lefty brain. Real live corgis are unleashed.
Still, zinging moments are not finally enough to disguise the fact that Morgan's very entertaining play is a skinny thing, a string of sketches dependent on high-grade mimicry.
