Jolene Anderson and Remy Hii in ‘Harrow’ 2.
Here’s a shout-out to producers: The ABC is keen to find another genre series to fill a gap as Matchbox Pictures’ Glitch comes to its conclusion after three seasons.
The pubcaster is also looking for a multi-generational relationship drama, comedies for Wednesday nights and shows with diverse casts and creatives across all genres.
It is less interested in programs set in small country towns and procedural crime series, particularly with the second series of Hoodlum Entertainment’s Harrow premiering on May 12 and the second season of Bunya Productions’ Mystery Road due to shoot later this year in Broome.
That’s the word from ABC head of scripted production Sally Riley. She hopes the funding for her domain – drama, comedy and Indigenous content – for the next financial year will not be less than the last couple of years, despite the federal government-imposed three-year $83.7 million funding cut.

Damien Garvey and Mark Mitchinson in ‘Rake’.
As a regular in the ABC’s Rake since the second series, Damien Garvey has a ready explanation as to why the fifth series is the last.
“This series plays more like a documentary than a satire,” says Garvey, who plays Cal McGregor, the resilient former government minister, jailbird and now blow-hard TV show host.
“The scripts were written 12 or 15 months ago, depicting the most ridiculous scenes. Now you turn on the TV and what you see is very similar. You can’t make up enough stories like that about politics anymore.”
In Sunday night’s episode Cal was offered a vacant seat in the House and a ministerial portfolio while his ambitious wife Jane (Sonia Todd) has her eyes on the seat.

ABC Studios International has landed U.S. distribution for its crime drama series Harrow, starring Ioan Gruffudd. The show will premiere on the domestic streaming platform, co-owned by Comcast, Fox and Disney, on September 7.
The Australian series was Disney’s international TV production division’s first global commission. The second, crime drama Reef Break, toplined by Poppy Montgomery, was recently picked up by U.S.’ ABC for next summer.
Harrow, which airs on Australia’s ABC and has been renewed for a second season, tells the story of forensic pathologist Dr. Daniel Harrow (Gruffudd). Harrow’s total disregard for authority and his unfailing empathy for the dead help him solve even the most bizarre cases. He is driven to give victims a voice and will bend every rule to get to the truth of what happened to them. But when a terrible secret from his own past threatens his family, his career,...

"The world's first super-bio warrior." Lionsgate Premiere has debuted a new official Us trailer for the a sci-fi action film from China titled Bleeding Steel, starring Jackie Chan as a hardened special forces agent protecting a young woman at all costs. We featured the first international trailer for this last year, and it already opened in China in December, only now arriving in Us theaters this July. The big sci-fi aspect seems to involve a special metallic heart implanted in Chan's character, along with big spaceships and futuristic biomech suits and more weird stuff thrown in. The full cast includes Tess Haubrich, Callan Mulvey, and Damien Garvey. Everything about this looks way too cheesy and over-the-top and absurd, of course. But maybe that's the kind of entertainment some of you are in the mood for now, an escape from the real world. Here's the new Us trailer (+ intl. posters) for Lijia Zhang's Bleeding Steel,...

"Whatever purpose you have, this is worse than you imagine."
Whoa! Jackie Chan has made a crazy looking sci-fi action film called Bleeding Steel, and today we have the first trailer for you to watch! I wasn't aware of this film until now and it looks pretty freakin' awesome!
Chan plays a hardened special forces agent in the film who is protecting a young woman from being killed by a sinister criminal gang. At the same time, he also feels a special connection to the young woman, like they met before in a different life. It also seems as if Chan's character has a special steel heart that has been implanted into his body, which is where the title of the movie comes from.
The movie looks like it is filled with some fun sci-fi elements and some cool over-the-top action sequences. I've been a fan of Chan ever since...

"Whatever purpose you have, this is worse than you imagine." A new trailer has debuted for a sci-fi action film from China titled Bleeding Steel, which actually stars Jackie Chan as a hardened special forces agent protecting a young woman. The sci-fi element seems to involve a special metallic heart implanted in Chan's character, as far as I can tell. Which is, I guess, where the "Bleeding Steel" title comes from. The cast includes Tess Haubrich, Callan Mulvey, and Damien Garvey. This is one of those totally unbelievably wacky Chinese action movies that has almost everything thrown into it - including weird, hooded sci-fi-ish characters. There's even a fight on top of the Sydney Opera House. Why? I have no idea. Take a look below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Lijia Zhang's Bleeding Steel, direct from YouTube: Jackie Chan stars in this action sci-fi thriller as a...

Based in the Us for the past three years, Kieran Darcy-Smith had not seen the Jack Irish telepics when he was offered the gig as set-up director of the spin-off series starring Guy Pearce as a former criminal lawyer turned private investigator and debt collector.
After watching the telepics and reading the scripts for the 6-part ABC series by Andrew Knight, Matt Cameron and Andrew Anastasios, Darcy-Smith readily agreed.
In his first TV drama assignment, the director whose breakthrough was Wish You Were Here is directing two episodes and Mark Joffe and Daniel Nettheim are each helming two. Essential Media and Entertainment.s Ian Collie is the series producer.
.The scripts are sensational; this is as good as TV drama gets,. Kieran tells If as shooting is underway in Melbourne to be followed by a week in the Philippines. .I am working with the A-team..

The Us version of Rake, which stars Greg Kinnear as brilliant, womanising and self-destructive criminal lawyer Keegan Deane, will screen on the rebranded Universal Channel on Foxtel.
Due to a holdback agreement with the ABC, the Us show cannot screen in Oz until after the third series of the Australian Rake airs on the public broadcaster. The remake premieres on Fox at 10 pm on Sunday January 19 with a strong lead-in, the Nfc Championship Game, and will then screen on Thursday nights at 9.
Peter Duncan, who co-created the original series with Richard Roxburgh and Charles Waterstreet, tells If the holdback agreement is not an issue, noting, .The ABC has been pretty generous. The Us series won.t finish screening until April. I am not sure when the new series will go to air in Australia but I believe it.s late February, so it.s not going to be a massive imposition.

The sharks in a supermarket flick Bait 3D (review) was met with a fine reception from most fans for a good reason - it was a lot of bloody fun! That being said sequel talk has begun chumming the waters.
Twitch reports that Arclight Films has announced a sequel to the Australian shark-in-a-supermarket thriller Bait, directed by Kimble Rendall, and starring Xavier Samuel, Julian McMahon, Sharni Vinson, Phoebe Tonkin, Martin Sacks, Alice Parkinson, Alexander Russell, Qi Yuwu, Adrian Pang, Lincoln Lewis and Damien Garvey.
The original intense 3D thriller tells the story of a group of survivors in a sleepy beach town who suddenly find themselves trapped inside a submerged supermarket following a freak tsunami. As they try to escape to safety, they soon discover that there is a predator among them more deadly than the threat of drowning—vicious great white sharks lurking in the water, hungry for fresh meat.

Terra Nova Canceled. Fox Network has canceled the freshman sci-fi TV show series after its thirteen episode first season. I am not surprised by this at all. I lost interest after the series after the three episode after I realized the main characters were destined to get out of every jam they got into.
In addition the series plot holes were ridiculous. From the first episode: Dr. Elisabeth Shannon (Shelley Conn) sneaks into a prison a metal hand laser. No one checked her? She was able to get that through metal detectors? Even if her husband Jim Shannon (Jason O’Mara) cut his way out of his cell, then what? He is still in prison. The cells were idiotic looking and they just happened to let people freely pass things to one another. That was convenient.
One more thing on the laser front: if small, portable lasers are out in the public,...

We started talking about Bait 3D around the same time we first mentioned what would come to be known as Shark Night, and while the latter is already on home video, we're still waiting patiently for a shark film hopefully done right.
A slew of behind-the-scenes images from Bait 3D showed up online recently, and you can check out what's really the only good one below, but if your curiosity isn't satisfied, you can dig on the others here and here. Also check out the first look trailer and a behind-the-scenes video from Aussie morning show "Sunrise" below. Thanks to Avery for the heads-up!
Xavier Samuel (Twilight: Eclipse, The Loved Ones), Julian McMahon (Red, Fantastic Four, Faces in the Crowd), Sharni Vinson (Step Up 3D, Blue Crush 2), Phoebe Tonkin (Tomorrow When the War Began), Martin Sacks, Alice Parkinson (Sanctum), Alexander Russell (Wasted on the Young), Qi Yuwu, Adrian Pang,...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
We get quite a bit of explaining in this episode. We learn what’s really going on with the Sixers, what the real agenda in 2149 is, what happened with Taylor and his son and what’s going on with the weird rock markings. Well, that’s assuming that the person who shared all this information with us isn’t an unreliable narrator, which would be an interesting twist, but not one that I expect a series like this to do.
Our episode opens with Boylan (Damien Garvey), being interrogated by Taylor (Stephen Lang), over the events that transpired last week. We see, yet again, that Terra Nova’s legal process is severely broken, as the man is being held without access to a lawyer, given borderline torture in the form of extremely loud noises that prevent him from sleeping, and being fed food with drugs in it.
