The week gone by was again dominated by Happy New Year and the film settled down reasonably well. Due to patronage from family audience, it first saw good momentum building up towards the weekend which was healthy indeed. Later, with Tuesday and Thursday being holidays in many parts of the country, the film got further addition to its collections, hence finding a much better box office standing for itself.
As a result, the film has now netted around 193 crore which is a very good number at the end of second week. The only other film that has managed collections in this range in 2014 is Kick and though Happy New Year won’t surpass the box office total of the Salman Khan starrer, it would now cross 200 crore for sure. In fact it is pretty much expected that the feat would be achieved in the third weekend for the film.

Nora Fatehi has come a long way. From being an accomplished belly dancer in Canada to transforming into a hard-core commando for her debut film Roar: Tigers Of The Sundarbans, the experience has been surreal. She says, “When I met director Kamal Sadanah for the first time, he showed me one of the test shots they had done for Roar, it blew me away. And that’s the moment I knew, I just had to be a part of this amazing project.”
On her role in the film, she says, “My character Cj is one hardcore commando. She behaves like one of the guys though if one looks at her they can see a mix of beauty, brains and brawn.” The entire crew of Roar, was put through some intense training in order to learn how to work like a commando team and handle weapons professionally. For Nora, this was an eye opener.

As it happens in the weeks surrounding biggies, there are no major films that arrive due to unavailability of screens as well as the fact that it is tough to catch audience’s attention. It is a repeat of the same story this week, what with Super Nani looking at making an impression this week. The film is Rekha’s comeback affair but surprisingly, the lady hasn’t really made much noise about it so far. The first promo met with an ordinary response and the promotion since then has been low key too. This is surprising since the man calling the shots is Indra Kumar whose last release Grand Masti was a 100 crore success. The film has been delayed by quite a while and though the basic premise is quite interesting (the original play on which it is based was a big hit too), the publicity has been barely just okay.

The cast and crew of Roar: Tigers Of The Sundarbans is a brave lot. They shot in the dangerous Sundarbans area everyday for a period of 40 days. A team of 150 stayed on 4 ships and the nearest habitat to them was 12 hours away by ship! The daily filming schedule was designed around the timing of the tide which would change every 6 hours. At high tide everyday the terra firma would get immersed in the water leaving little or no place for the team to walk on. It was under these trying conditions the crew worked tirelessly to bring this exciting story on the silver screen.
It is safe to say that no man has ventured this far into the Sundarbans to shoot for a film. It is this beautiful and dangerous experience that the makers of the film want to share with the audience.

The Sundarbans region of West Bengal is one of the most deadly albeit breathtakingly gorgeous places in the world. Because of the unstable terrain and dangers in the form of lethal reptiles and of course, the majestic Bengal tigers, this area remains secluded in mystery and very few people get to experience the visual splendor that this place has to offer. Roar: Tigers Of The Sundarbans promises a heady mix of entertainment, thrill, action, adventure and some foot tapping music. A film set in the dangerous Sundarbans terrain, it revolves around a group of commandos in hot pursuit of the dangerous Bengal Tiger.
‘Zara Jeene De’ is the latest track from the film and it gives audiences not only a taste of raw jungle power but also weaves in a relevant message. The Royal Bengal tiger is one of the most majestic albeit dangerous predators in the world but this majestic animal is ruthlessly poached for its beautiful fur. ‘Zara Jeene De’, which features Himarsha Venkatswamy is a powerful message to everyone highlighting the irony of the hunter becoming the hunted. Interestingly, this song is from a tiger’s point of view; it is their cry to humans to stop encroaching upon their natural habitat and wanting to be left alone.

Most films have a run-of-the-mill cast- a hero, a heroine and of course, the big bad villain. But when producer Abis Rizvi and director Kamal Sadanah decided to make a film, they knew it shouldn’t be a ‘typical’ Bollywood movie.
The film Roar: Tigers Of The Sundarbans has definitely succeeded in breaking free from stereotypes. Exotic locales filled with danger, the mighty Sundarbans tiger playing an important role, complete with an ensemble cast has made Roar a force to reckon with. “When we started ideating for Roar, we knew it had to be different. Casting for the film was as difficult as shooting for the film itself. We wanted to ensure that each character is independent and had an interesting back story.” says producer Abis Rizvi. Agrees Kamal,”We had more than 600 auditions to narrow down our cast, and we didn’t rest until we knew we found the right fit for each role.

Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans promises to be a high-octane thriller. The movie revolves around a group of commandos who venture deep into the deadly Sundarbans. The makers of the film, producer Abis Rizvi and director Kamal Sadanah roped in an Army veteran to train the cast to look like authentic commandos. From body language and behavior to the art of warfare, every aspect was covered. Abis wanted to stay true to the look and feel of the film and hence decided on hiring an actual commando so that the team can learn from the best. “As a producer, it was important to be involved in the process of making Roar at every step and for the cast to look like real commando on screen it was imperative that they train under an Ex-Army Commando as a part of the pre-production. After seeing the rushes I am very happy and pleased with the results,...

The trailer launch of Roar: The Tigers Of The Sundarbans not only had superstar Salman Khan unveil the trailer, but also had him stand face to face with a mighty tiger. Augmented Reality (Ar) is a unique concept wherein real video is combined with a computer generated image and is projected on a large screen which looks very real. This gives people an opportunity to experience it in virtual reality without actually physically being present. Hence, Salman Khan got to interact with a tiger and even managed to pet the mighty beast, minus the danger. The audience got to watch a huge alligator snap at Salman’s hand as well. This is one of the most innovative concepts ever done at a trailer launch and Salman looked like he thoroughly enjoyed himself. “Sunderbans is a heavenly location but we had the smell of danger all around us” – Abis Rizvi
In a shocking incident that occurred in the Sundarbans area of West Bengal, a fisherman was snatched by one of the tigers, famous for their notoriety when he was fishing in a prohibited area close to the Sunderbans forest. According to reports, the tiger leaped several feet into the air and snatched the full grown man in a flash. His daughter felt like they had been struck by lightning. The man was with his two children who watched on helplessly as the Tiger leaped across the boat, clutched their father by the throat and disappeared into the dense forest. It is unlikely that his body will be recovered, like many before him.
If one thinks the tigers are the only threat in the Sunderbans, they are wrong. This area is home to killer crocodiles as well.

May 1, 1991. A just-out-of-school Kajol bounded into Gautam Rajadhyaksha’s studio with her uncle Jaideep Samanth. The ace photographer had finished a script and director Rahul Rawail was scouting around for fresh faces. “Take a look at Tanu’s (Tanuja) daughter,” Gautam suggested. And Rahul turned up for the photo shoot, expecting nothing. Within five minutes of meeting her, Kajol was in. Bekhudi was launched three months later, with Tanuja’s daughter and Sharmila Tagore’s son in the lead. Saif Ali Khan didn’t stick around long and was replaced by his best friend Kamal Sadanah. But carefree Kajol who, growing up, had flitted ...

After remaking his father's Victoria No. 203, actor turned producer Kamal Sadanah is ready to take the big step of directing his next film, titled Goa Goa. "There are two stories running parallel in the film. The first is based in Mumbai in today's times and the other is set in Goa in 1979. That explains why Goa is repeated twice in its title," Kamal Sadanah tells me. Writing the script was a challenge. "The story was conceived by me, while Sukhwant Dhadda, Brij Katyal and I are writing the screenplay. I have decided to make this film under my father's banner Dynamo International," says Kamal. The film will go on floors as soon as the casting is complete. "For the Goa segment, I am looking at a new cast. The characters are interesting and require freshness and innocence. I am in the process of launching a talent hunt where anyone interested...
