“The Gilded Age” Season 2 has added recurring cast members Laura Benanti and Robert Sean Leonard TheWrap has confirmed.
The sophomore installment of the popular American period drama — created, written and executive produced by “Downton Abbey” helmer Julian Fellowes — will feature Benanti as the glamorous widower and Newport resident Susan Blane and Leonard as the jovial Reverend Matthew Forte.
The Tony award winners are joining an already formidable series regular cast, including Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Audra McDonald and more.
Additional recurring guest stars are Nicole Bryndon Bloom (“The Affair”), newcomer Michael Braugher (who will play Booker T. Washington), Christopher Denham (“Argo”), David Furr (“Iron Fist”), Ben Lamb (“Divergent”), Matilda Lawler (“Station Eleven”), Dakin Mathews (“True Grit”) and Rebecca Haden, who will return as Season 1’s Flora McNeil.
Set in the late 19th century, “The Gilded Age” follows the tumultuous changes taking place during its title era, drawing loose inspiration from real-life events.
