Aloha, spooky nerds!
When I set out to collect the week’s best in paranormal pop culture news, I knew ahead of time I wanted to give a shout to Netflix’s Dead End: Paranormal Park. I have been waiting to check it out for some time, and it delivered as an emotionally intelligent, fun show for all ages. And I figured there would be other movie and TV news within the realm of the weird. What I did not expect was the real deal stuff that dropped this week. Not only did China release a report about alien civilizations but the whole dang city of Amarillo, Texas went on record with a video still of… something caught on camera.

In Netflix’s new animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park, Barney — a young teen boy with an electric blue ombre — and his dog Pugsley move into a haunted amusement park where they begin working (and fighting monsters) alongside Norma, a fellow teen-turned-friend.
It sounds typical enough for a genre kids’ cartoon, yet Dead End — a colorful trip into the pains and joys of teenhood as its main trio battles demons, ghosts and their insecurities — isn’t typical for animation.
The 10-episode adventure stars a racially-, gender- and sexuality-diverse cast, with the main ensemble led by voice actors Zach Barack (the MCU’s first openly trans actor) as Barney, Kody Kavitha as Norma, Alex Brightman as Pugsley, Emily Osment as demon Courtney, and Clinton Leupp a.k.a. As with many of the X-Men, the portrayal of Storm in the Fox X-movies has often come under criticism from Marvel fans who feel that the iconic mutant heroine has been poorly handled in her cinematic outings so far. There’s hope, then, that the character will finally be done justice when the Children of the Atom are rebooted within the McU in the coming few years. But who should play the next Ororo Munroe?
Recently, a rumor flared up claiming that Beyoncé was in the running to play Storm in Black Panther 2. While some like the idea, others feel that hiring the global superstar would just be stunt casting and that another actress should be found for the job. A new Change.org petition champions trans activist and actress Dominque Jackson for the role. At the time of writing, the petition is just a handful of signatures...

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently teased that a trans character is on the way to the McU. And while it was unclear at the time who he might be talking about, it seems we now have our answer.
According to the folks over at The Illuminerdi, the studio is currently casting for the role of Sera, who’s going to be Marvel’s first transgender hero and will apparently appear in Loki. But the character’s involvement in the McU won’t end there, as the role is said to be a major supporting part, with plans for Sera to show up in future Marvel movies as well.
Which films those may be, we can’t yet say, but Thor: Love and Thunder seems like the most logical choice here, given that we know it’ll be heavily tied to the events of Loki and we’ll also...

While attending a Q&a at the New York Film Academy, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was asked whether he had any plans to increase Lgbt representation in the McU, particularly in terms of trans characters. Feige’s positive reply – “Yes, absolutely yes. And very soon.” – raised fans’ hopes that Marvel will be making a milestone move by giving us cinema’s first ever trans superhero in the near future. However, a new report is now casting doubt on this.
Variety writes that two separate sources close to the studio have informed the trade that Feige misspoke at this event, and he was only replying to the general question of Lgbt representation and not specifically teasing the imminent arrival of a prominent trans character in the franchise. While disappointing, this makes sense with Feige’s complete comment, in which he promised that the movie currently shooting will feature what fans are looking for.

So here's how this works. We've compiled everything we can on our first run through these episodes, but we're bound to have missed a couple of Marvel references.
Jessica Jones Season 3 has arrived on Netflix, which means it's time for us to find all the Marvel Comics and McU Easter eggs!

The team at Marvel Studios has been hinting at plans for a while now to bring further Lgbtq representation into the McU, and in the midst of promoting Avengers: Endgame, director Joe Russo reaffirmed that this is the case.
While attending a Marvel fan event in India, the filmmaker was asked if the time was right for an openly Lgbtq superhero to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to which he said:
“One hundred percent and you will see one very soon.”
There are a few developments that Russo might be hinting at here. For one thing, the McU technically already has at least one Lgbtq character in Valkyrie. And while the warrior’s bisexuality went unacknowledged in Thor: Ragnarok, the heroine is confirmed to return this month in Endgame. After that, Spider-Man: Far From Home will feature trans actor Zach Barack in an undisclosed role. What’s more, next year...
