Charlie Puth probably wouldn’t be releasing his new song “Hero” if it wasn’t for Taylor Swift.
Puth was in the middle of having lunch one day last month when a friend who’d heard a leak of Swift’s Tortured Poets Department called to say that she had mentioned Puth in one of the songs. Puth didn’t believe him. “My brain immediately went to ‘Oh, like in an interview or something. That’s cool. I love Taylor Swift,’” he recounts to Rolling Stone. Then, he thought, maybe...

In the “SNL” promo video (watch above), cast member Bowen Yang remarks on Gyllenhaal’s “incredible” body in “Road House” and how it “inspired” his own fitness journey. “Yeah, it inspired me to stay skinny fat,” he jokes. “I ain’t doing all that, sucker!”
The regular cast members for “Saturday Night Live” Season 49 are, in credits order: Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, James Austin Johnson, Punkie Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang. Alt-rock band Vampire Weekend has turned in iconic albums: their self-titled release, “Contra,” “Modern Vampires of the City” and “Father of the Bride.” The last two of these were especially important for the band, bringing them Grammys for Best Alternative Music Album in 2014 and 2020, respectively. On top of that, “Father of the Bride” earned the band their first nominations outside of the alternative category: Best Rock Song (“This Life”) and, most importantly, Album of the Year. Now the band is back with their fifth studio album, “Only God Was Above Us,” and with this new release, there’s potential for another big Grammy night for the band.
This new album comes four years after the success of “Father of the Bride,” which topped the Billboard 200 and was eventually certified gold in the US. While it managed an Album of the Year nomination, however, it wasn’t necessarily the band’s most beloved collection,...

After a shortened 2022-23 season, Saturday Night Live returned a bit later than usual to kick off its 2023-24 run.
The writers strike affected both the end of last season and the start of season 49; the end of the labor action on Sept. 25 meant a mid-October start for SNL — with former castmember Pete Davidson hosting — rather than the late September or early October premiere the show usually has. (The cast is covered under a different SAG-AFTRA contract than the one actors are currently striking against, so they can perform without crossing picket lines.)
The show’s cast returned intact from last season, with James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman moving up from featured players to repertory players. Chloe Troast joined the cast as a featured player.
Below is The Hollywood Reporter’s updating guide to season 49’s SNL hosts and musical guests.

A star-studded group of veteran “Saturday Night Live” guest hosts were on hand this evening to welcome Kristen Wiig into the “Five-Timers Club.” But much to Wiig’s chagrin, most of them haven’t matched her feat of actually hosting “SNL” five times.
The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member made her fifth appearance as host — having previously hit the stage in 2013, 2016 and twice in 2020.
The stolen “SNL” valor actually began with a legit five-timer: Paul Rudd, on hand to welcome her from the audience..
“As a former cast member, it is very special,” Wiig said. “I’m really excited about getting my jacket tonight… they don’t just hand the jackets off to anyone.”
Well, not quite. Soon more stars came out: Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, Martin Short, Will Forte, Fred Armisen, Martin Short and Ryan Gosling. None of whom haven actually hosted five times yet.

Few country stars have been embraced by the Grammys like Kacey Musgraves has. The singer-songwriter rose to prominence with her mainstream debut, “Same Trailer Different Park,” which became one of the most acclaimed albums of 2013, earning an 89 score on Metacritic and establishing Musgraves as one to watch in the industry. She received four Grammy nominations that year and won Best Country Album in a major upset against Taylor Swift’s commercial blockbuster “Red.” Musgraves followed that with another Grammy-nominated record, “Pageant Material,” but her third try was the charm: “Golden Hour” won Album of the Year and swept its three other nominations in the country field. Then came the pop-leaning “Star-Crossed,” which nevertheless received two country nominations. This year Musgraves is back with “Deeper Well,” which many are considering a return to form and a folk-country masterpiece. She is for sure getting her usual country nominations. But can she crossover to the general field again?...

Bratz is celebrating Women’s History Month by unveiling a concept doll in tribute to Sinéad O’Connor.
Honoring O’Connor just eight months after she passed away, the doll depicts the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer with her signature shaved head. While she isn’t ripping up any photos of the Pope, she is donning her “Jesus is coming — look busy” shirt, with sunglasses, baggy jeans, and a quintessentially-Bratz blinged-out lip-shaped handbag.
“Women’s Month continues with Sinéad O’Connor, an Irish singer, songwriter, and activist with a passion for ‘90z grunge fashion,” a post by Bratz on Instagram read. “O’Connor, who passed away in 2023, first debuted her scorchin’ buzzcut in 1987 when she was just 20 years old — two years after she signed her record deal. It’s fair to say that Sean Price Williams, director of last year’s “The Sweet East” and cinematographer on everything from the Safdies’ “Good Time” to Kristen Stewart’s music videos for Boygenius, has an appreciative, eclectic eye for great filmmaking. He’s honed it through his work, of course, but also through compiling a massive list of movies to watch. What initially started as a recommendation list, ever-evolving over the years and being handed out to Williams’ friends and colleagues, is now a fully-fledged book from Metrograph Editions.
To butcher an Ernst Lubitsch quote, there are a thousand “1000 Movies To Watch” type books, but now there’s really only one.
What’s interesting about the pocket-sized guide is that, unlike a lot of movie recommendation books, Williams isn’t interested in leading the reader with flowery explanations about why someone might or should love any one particular film.

KiKi Layne, breakout of “If Beale Street Could Talk” and other indies, sings and performs in Nicole Riegel’s SXSW premiere “Dandelion” as a Cincinnati singer/songwriter in a downward spiral. IndieWire shares an exclusive first look at the film here ahead of its March 10 premiere in Austin at the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival. Riegel previously directed 2021’s “Holler,” a blue-collar drama starring Jessica Barden.

Christopher Guest and Rob Reiner made a 1984 classic that ingeniously straddles the ‘fine line between stupid and clever’
The bands that come together organically, without the aid of want ads or tear-off flyers stapled to telephone poles, are generally catalyzed by a mixture of chemistry, inspiration and boredom.
A few guys – more often than not, it’s still guys – hang out, realize they get along, bond through their overlapping tastes, and then grow fidgety to do something about it. Screwing around becomes noodling, noodling becomes jamming, jamming becomes something that can be passed off as a performance in exchange for beer money. For so many of the greats, rocking began as a gratifying, potentially lucrative way to goof off with one’s friends, their childhood spirit of play aged up from games to music; we can see the natural camaraderie in everything from the laddish pranksterism of A Hard Day’s Night...

The 2024 Grammys aired on February 4, and as usual, I have some thoughts. For passionate awards pundits, the Grammys are often best enjoyed afterwards, when you can analyze the results properly and theorize about what they might be telling us about the voting process, the Recording Academy and the music industry as a whole. Here are my five main takeaways.

Pop voters have refined taste
Listen, I don’t wanna dunk on any artist or song, but Taylor Swift’s remix of “Karma” featuring Ice Spice is just not that good, with some simply feeling like the added verse was out of place. Regardless, the track was predicted to win the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, mostly due to the fact that the original version topped pop radio and all the other nominees were deep cuts and/or album tracks.

It seemed like Lana Del Rey had the best chance of her entire career to finally win her first Grammy. While six-time Grammy nominees Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Miley Cyrus won multiple awards and, in the case of Swift, made history, at the 2024 Grammys, fellow six-time nominees and past Grammy winners Olivia Rodrigo and Jon Batiste each went home empty-handed despite their half-dozen nominations apiece. Batiste even won album of the year in 2022 and some prognosticators thought he could emerge victorious for the top prize despite the strong female presence among this year’s nominees and winners.
Instead, Taylor Swift became the first performer to win album of the year four times with Midnights, and she announced a new album would be coming in a couple of months, giving her another shot at more Grammys gold.
Fellow multiple nominee Lana Del Rey, up for five awards, was also shut out, despite nods in a number of the Grammys’ top categories.

It was six years ago when former Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow told journalists backstage at the Grammys in 2018 that women needed to “step up” for their representation at the show after only men won out in the major categories. Phoebe Bridgers hasn’t forgotten.
“I have something to say about women,” Bridgers said after Rolling Stone asked her and her fellow Boygenius members Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus about women shaping the future of rock music when they came to the Grammy press room. “The ex-president of the Recording Academy,...

In 2023 Gold Derby’s racetrack odds missed every general field category — surprises abounded! But this year our odds were spot-on in all four of those races, with Album of the Year going to Taylor Swift (“Midnights”), Record of the Year going to Miley Cyrus (“Flowers”), Song of the Year going to Billie Eilish (“What Was I Made For?”) and Best New Artist going to Victoria Monet. Still, there were 15 categories out of the 37 we were predicting where most of our users were expecting a different result. Did you see these outcomes coming?
SEE2024 Grammy winners list in all 94 categories
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance: “Ghost in the Machine” by Sza feat. Phoebe Bridgers
In recent years this award has gone to the biggest hit nominated. This year that was “Karma” by Taylor Swift and Ice Spice. And since Swift was also the front-runner for Album of the Year, we figured she’d take this too.

Taylor Swift secured a historic fourth Album of the Year win, while Miley Cyrus and Sza enjoyed big nights of their own at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Swift’s world-conquering 2022 LP, Midnights, took home the night’s top prize, making her the first artist to win the award four times. She first won Album of the Year in 2010 for Fearless, then again in 2016 for 1989 and in 2021 for Folklore. (Mixing and mastering engineers Tom Coyne, Serban Ghenea, and John Hanes previously won, though Swift is the first artist.)

Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who earlier won Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘Midnights’ registered her second win at the 66th edition of the Grammy awards as she won the coveted Album of the Year award for ‘Midnights’.
She defeated her fellow nominees Olivia Rodrigo, Jon Batiste, Boygenius, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey and Janelle Monae.
‘Midnights’ is the tenth studio album by Swift. The singer conceived it as a concept album about nocturnal ruminations inspired by her sleepless nights.
The autobiographical songwriting explores broad emotions such as regrets, self-critique, fantasies, heartbreak, and infatuation, using confessional yet cryptic lyrics that allude to her personal life and public image.
The Recording Academy took to its official handle on micro-blogging site X and congratulated the winner. They wrote: “Congrats Album Of The Year winner – ‘Midnights’ @TaylorSwift13 #GRAMMYs.”

Taylor Swift took home the award for album of the year at the 2024 Grammys on Sunday night and made history.
The singer was nominated alongside World Music Radio (Jon Batiste), the record (Boygenius), Endless Summer Vacation (Miley Cyrus), Did You Know That There‘s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd (Lana Del Rey),The Age of Pleasure (Janelle Monáe), Guts (Olivia Rodrigo) and Sos (Sza).
The award was presented by Céline Dion, who made a surprise appearance amid her health battle with stiff-person syndrome.
A visibly shocked Swift was quick to express her disbelief when taking the stage with longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff and singer Lana Del Rey.
“I don’t know, man. I get to work with one of my best friends, who is not only one of my best friends but is a once-in-a-generation producer that’s Jack Antonoff. I’m so lucky,” she said of Antonoff.

All eyes were on Miley Cyrus as she walked the red carpet ahead of the 2024 Grammys. She bared it all (almost) in a daring mesh dress as she posed for photos at the Crypto.com Arena on Feb. 4 in Los Angeles.
The “Flowers” singer made her big entrance in a custom metal dress by Maison Margiela. She completed her look with sky-high big hair and a pair of gold velvet high heels.
Cyrus, 31, is up for multiple awards at the 66th Annual Grammys, including Record of the Year for “Flowers” and Album of the Year for Endless Summer Vacation.

For her first time attending the Grammys since 2019, Cyrus decided to make a statement. Her bold dress, which was made out of gold safety pins, left little to the imagination.

It was a clean sweep for Taylor Swift at the 2024 Gold Derby Music Awards. She came into our fourth annual event with nine nominations and walked away with nine victories including Artist of the Year for the fourth year in a row. Watch the announcement video above for winners in all categories, and scroll down for the complete list.
In the history of the GDMAs thus far, Swift is the only artist who has won Artist of the Year. She’s also the only artist who has won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Taylor Swift is the odds-on favorite to make history with an Album of the Year victory for “Midnights.” It would be her fourth win in the category following victories for “Fearless,” “1989” and “Folklore.” That would set a new record for the most Album of the Year wins for any recording artist ever, breaking Swift’s tie with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. But she’s only tipped to win two other categories out of her six total nominations: Best Pop Vocal Album for “Midnights...

Sza enters these awards with the most nominations (nine), followed by R&b breakout Victoria Monet, alternative singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers and engineer/mixer Serban Ghenea with seven apiece. This year’s awards also marked a number of changes and updates. The Recording Academy consolidated its categories into just 11 fields in order to give voters more flexibility as to which categories they participate in.

“We’re going away for the foreseeable future,” the boys reportedly said at the acoustic show.
At one point Lucy said, “This is our last show, and we’re feeling it.” At the end of the night, Lucy said, “This is the last song,” but Julien made sure to chime in, “Not Ever.”
While boygenius is on hiatus for now, we hope they return in the future one day!
