Monday kicked off Season 25’s Battles on The Voice, and they did not disappoint. On one hand, we got a few genuinely awesome performances. On the other, we got what might qualify as the first big shocks of the season via the eliminations of one contestant who could easily go by the stage name Mr. Personality and another who — and yes, I’m ready for the hate mail — is a more electrifying rock vocalist than early frontrunner Bryan Olesen. Read on, and we’ll discuss which singers advanced to the Knockouts and whether they really should have.

Ok, probably a lot (as in most?) of you aren’t asking yourselves, “Who are Dan + Shay?” — aka as The Voice’s first-ever coaching duo — because you already know. They’ve been making waves in the music biz for more than a decade. But for anyone who — admittedly, like me — lives under a rock and isn’t super-familiar with them, here’s the 411.
The Voice Coaches, RankedView List
Legend has it that Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney met at a party at the former’s house in 2012. They jammed together that same night and started co-writing the very next day.

If “The Voice” had a Mount Rushmore of coaches, three of the faces carved into its granite would no doubt be Niall Horan, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. Why? Because as of the Season 24 finale on December 19, they are the only coaches to have won two seasons in a row. That’s quite an impressive feat, especially considering the immense amount of talent that has graced the NBC reality TV show since its debut in 2011. See the updated “The Voice” winners list.
Niall joined the esteemed list on Tuesday night when Huntley, his 33-year-old artist from Fredericksburg, Virginia, won Season 24 over runner-up Ruby Leigh of Team Reba McEntire. That gave Niall back-to-back victories because he also prevailed in Season 23 with Illinois pop singer Gina Miles, who bested runner-up Grace West of Team Blake. Since Niall isn’t returning in the spring for Season 25, that means he will remain undefeated for the time being.

As Season 24 of “The Voice” enters the exciting Battles stage of the competition, former coach and four-time champion Kelly Clarkson quietly informed fans of NBC’s reality TV show that their lives are going to suck without her as she will not be returning to the red chair any time soon. In conversation with “USA Today” earlier this week, Kelly discussed her relocation from Los Angeles to New York and how that ultimately meant she had to say “bye” to the singing competition.
Kelly has been a participant on “The Voice,” which she thankfully calls “family,” since Season 2 where she served as Blake Shelton‘s guest advisor during the Battles. But a moment like that was not enough for the iconic “American Idol” champ, leading Kelly to return in Season 13 as the Knockouts advisor to all four teams and then claim her own miss independence as a full-fledged coach from...

Following the May announcement of the four coaches set to take a seat in the red chairs for Season 24 of “The Voice,” it’s now confirmed that pop country duo Dan + Shay will make history as the first coaching pair to spearhead a team when Season 25 rolls out in Spring 2024. The duo will sit in an extra-big red chair alongside John Legend, Chance the Rapper and Reba McEntire. (It’s assumed their chair will light up with the words “We Want You” instead of the normal “I Want You.”)
NBC previously announced that Season 24 airing Fall 2023 will feature the return of three coaches: John, Niall Horan and Gwen Stefani. They will be joined by Reba in her first season as coach after serving as the mega mentor for every coach in the Season 23 knockouts. Season 23 will mark the end of an era for “The Voice.” Blake Shelton, the only coach to participate in every cycle since the reality TV competition began in 2011, will say goodbye. Blake and “The Voice” have been a mainstay of NBC’s spring schedule, typically kicking off in February or March and running through May. That wasn’t the case for 2022. For the first time in the show’s history, “The Voice” skipped the spring season, airing only last fall. but it’s back this year in its regular time slot.

Because he’s won “The Voice” eight times, Blake Shelton has a lot of different feathers in his cap. Among them is his ability to nurture the budding talents of teenage artists. Among his three artists entering the season 22 finale on Monday and Tuesday night is Brayden Lape, the small town singer from Michigan that was only 15 years old when he auditioned for the show. If Brayden wins, he’d be Team Blake’s third teenager to win and the seventh overall in series history.

In “The Voice” Season 21 finale, Kelly Clarkson won her fourth career trophy thanks to the history-making trio known as Girl Named Tom. (Read our minute-by-minute recap.) The sibling band from Pettisville, Ohio is comprised of Caleb Liechty (26), Joshua Liechty (24) and Bekah Liechty (20) and will now forever be known as the first-ever group to win “The Voice.” It was a fitting end for Girl Named Tom, as they were the very first blind audition shown to audiences back in September, where they earned a four-chair turn.
Kelly’s previous three winners were Brynn Cartelli (Season 14), Chevel Shepherd (Season 15) and Jake Hoot (Season 17). At four total victories, Kelly has now broken her tie with former coach Adam Levine, who prevailed thrice with Javier Colon (Season 1), Tessanne Chin (Season 5) and Jordan Smith (Season 9).

Girl Named Tom has already made “The Voice” history after becoming the first trio to reach a finale in 21 seasons of NBC’s reality TV singing competition. The group of siblings on Team Kelly Clarkson comprised of Bekah, Caleb and Joshua Liechty currently resides in South Bend, Indiana. A win on Tuesday’s live finale would make them the first non-solo act to ever claim victory on “The Voice.”
Standing in their path to victory are three powerhouse vocalists and one of their own teammates. Team Blake Shelton has two shots at winning their coach his ninth title with genre-crossing diva Wendy Moten and R&b soul singer Paris Winningham. Team John Legend is represented by gospel artist Jershika Maple while Team Kelly’s teen pop singer Hailey Mia joins Girl Named Tom in the live finale. Ariana Grande failed to coach any artist to the finale in her rookie season.

When Season 20 of “The Voice” kicks off March 1 on NBC, Kelly Clarkson will be the only female coach. She’ll once again be joined by Nick Jonas, John Legend and Blake Shelton on the judging panel, just like in Season 18. But Kelly doesn’t let being outnumbered get to her. “I’m cool when girls are on the show and I’m cool when they’re not because I do love hanging with guys, too,” she shares in NBC’s latest promo video (watch above). “This is a fun group. Just as Gold Derby predicted, the winner of “The Voice” Season 19 was Carter Rubin. This 15-year-old pop singer of Team Gwen Stefani beat out two members of Team Blake Shelton, Jim Ranger and Ian Flanigan, who had to settle for second and third place, respectively. After the confetti fell on “The Voice” finale, fans online started speculating about whether Jim and Ian split the vote, helping Carter to an easy victory. It’s not a bad theory. Last’s season’s live shows were also upended by the Covid-19 pandemic, which would explain why season 17 winner Jake Hoot was not part of the proceedings that saw Tilghman become coach Blake Shelton‘s lucky seventh winner. When Hoot won last December, the season 16 winner, Maelyn Jarmon, sang on the Christmas-themed finale. Conversely when Jarmon won for then rookie coach John Legend in the spring of 2019, the season 15 champion, Chevel Shepherd, was not part of the line-up of talent that performed before the big reveal.

Our lives would suck without Kelly Clarkson. The pop singer known for her powerful pipes was introduced to us in the first season of “American Idol” on Fox in 2002, launching a career that spans the 21st century. She won that competition, but what are the best songs she has recorded since then? Scroll down to see how we rank her greatest hits. Do you agree with our pick for her number-one song of all time?
In the years since Clarkson’s “Idol” coronation, the show has been inconsistent in delivering artists with lasting music careers, though standouts like Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson have also stood the test of time. Clarkson was actually the first “Idol” alum to win a Grammy, claiming Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (“Since U Been Gone”) and Best Pop Album (“Breakaway”) in 2006. Is a long-standing “The Voice” curse about to be broken? If Blake Shelton‘s country singer Ian Flanigan ends up winning Season 19 during next week’s finale, he’ll make history as the first artist to prevail who was previously saved by Twitter. Since the instant save twist was first created in Season 6, no recipient has ever gone on to win “The Voice.” Britton Buchanan (Season 14) and Toneisha Harris (Season 18) came closest by each placing second behind their winners, but all of the other times the saved artist finished last in their respective finales.

Hey, Blake Shelton: Kelly Clarkson is coming for your title on “The Voice”! To date, Blake has coached a leading seven artists to victory out of his 18 total seasons, but that’s only a 39% success rate. Conversely, Kelly is at three wins out of her five seasons, a 60% success rate. She’s trying hard to narrow the gap between their numbers, and could take a step closer if one of her Season 19 semi-finalists — Desz or Cami Clune — ends up winning the competition. Who do you think has a better chance of making it happen? Vote in our poll below.

Now that “The Voice” blind auditions, battles and knockouts are behind us, Kelly Clarkson‘s team consists of exactly four artists heading into the Season 19 live shows. (A potential fifth artist depends on who America votes for to win the four-way knockout.) Clarkson joined “The Voice” family full-time as a coach in Season 14, after previously serving as an advisor. She immediately proved her worth as a coach, winning with artists Brynn Cartelli (Season 14), Chevel Shepherd (Season 15) and Jake Hoot (Season 17).

Blake Shelton‘s losing streak came to an end on Tuesday night when he won his seventh “The Voice” championship thanks to Todd Tilghman. (Read our minute-by-minute recap to see how it all went down.) Todd, a 42-year-old pastor from Meridian, Mississippi, was a front-runner to win Season 18, particularly after leading Apple Music sales following Monday’s performance show. Todd’s success means that his coach Blake has won his first title in four seasons. See the updated list of “The Voice” winners in our photo gallery below.

Tuesday night during “The Voice’s” highly anticipated Season 18 finale, quarantined host Carson Daly took fans on a nostalgic journey through coaching panels of years past. Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green started it all back in Season 1, with Shakira and Usher coming to NBC’s reality TV show in Season 4, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams being hired in Season 7, and Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys joining in Season 11. However, did this 2020 season — starring Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Nick Jonas — have the best coaching panel to date?

The competition is on! As we approach the Season 18 live shows of “The Voice,” Kelly Clarkson has some choice words for rival coach Blake Shelton. “I think that Team Kelly can take it again this year and I would love to rub that in Shelton’s face,” she smiled during Monday night’s “Road to Live Shows” special. As a reminder, Kelly has won three out of the four seasons she’s coached so far: Brynn Cartelli (Season 14), Chevel Shepherd (Season 15) and Jake Hoot (Season 17). Blake currently has the winningest record at six victories, but experience comes with a double-edged sword because that also means he’s lost the most.

“The Voice” viewers have been voting all week for which of Kelly Clarkson‘s artists they want to win Season 18, and the poll results are in. With a leading 32% of the vote, 17-year-old Megan Danielle tops all of the other contestants on Team Kelly. It’s always a risk when an aspiring singer on “The Voice” takes on a song from a well-known artist, but the risk is magnified tenfold when a contestant performs one of their own coach’s classics. Well, Megan Danielle did just that during Monday’s knockouts, belting out Kelly Clarkson‘s “Piece by Piece” while CammWess performed A Great Big World‘s “Say Something.” In the end, Kelly made a “strategic” decision to keep Megan and send home CammWess … but he wasn’t out just yet. John Legend and Nick Jonas both tried to steal CammWess for their teams, with the young artist going “back home” to Team Legend. Do you think Kelly made the right choice for her Season 18 team? Even though Nick Jonas is competing against a trio of winning coaches on “The Voice” Season 18, he actually has a secret advantage because he’s the new kid on the block. Just one season after winning “The Voice” with country artist Jake Hoot, coach Kelly Clarkson is having a heck of a time convincing any male artists to join her Season 18 team. In fact, after four blind audition episodes Kelly has acquired only eight female artists with two spots still to be filled. Fellow coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend and Nick Jonas have teams made up of both genders, with John earning his first female artist (Zan Fiskum) this week.

We’re halfway through “The Voice” Season 18 blind auditions, with each coach coming closer and closer to completing their teams. As of this writing, Blake Shelton has 6 of his 10 artists, while Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Nick Jonas currently have 5 of 10. Yep, you read that right.
